James Bond 007: The Living Daylights (1987)
General location: Gibraltar, British Overseas Territory
Actual filming location: The Gibraltar Water Catchments and Upper Rock
In brief: 00 agents parachute to Gibraltar. 007 (Timothy Dalton) finds 004’s (Frederick Warder's) body on the edge of the water catchments.
The water catchments wooden frame and corrugated sheeting has since rotten away and been mostly removed. The was the main fresh water supply during WWII making Gibraltar resistant to any blockade or siege. The water catchments have since been replaced with a desalination plant.
Would you like to play a role in your own spy mission?
Check out www.espionage.games for either local or international missions.
Special Ops Gibraltar caters for activities and adventures. See our other videos of Call of Duty Lazer-Tag.
Many traditional corporate outings end up team destroying rather than team building and so a strategic approach to your investment in your team is needed and better achieves the outcomes you will want for your organisation.
Espionage Games has done just this and can combine what might be your Xmas dinner and drinks night into a thrilling, team building experience. Much more than your average, sit-all-day workshop, it is more fun, definitely more thrilling, whilst also providing a stronger learning environment!
Gamification can readily be added to an organisation’s training programme. Espionage Games’ Gamification Workshops are developed to “Maximise Learning Retention” and “Habit Formation.”
This is achieved by organising comprehensive knowledge transfer training, coupled with role-play and a real life espionage game which is played in the field. This method can provide a real-world experience as the means to really accentuate those team skills you’d like your managers and employees to further develop, including leadership, taking initiative, developing roles etc.
The Gamification Workshops are based on the belief that “experience is the best teacher”. It is because they have developed an experiential learning environment, that they have found the retention rate for participants in their Espionage Games are higher than the average, sit-all-day workshops and seminars. There is also the element of fun: learning through play works not just for kids, but also for adults - we retain information much better if we are in a positive environment and emotionally receptive to information, and through practical application of knowledge, we develop the skills we need and the confidence to apply them in a day to day environment. If spending a period of time being a spy sounds like fun - that’s because IT IS!
Espionage Games uses a mission construction process which allows us to orchestrate missions designed to improve the skills of a team of employees. In fact, we have identified 42 different leadership skills, of which any 3, can be included in a custom workshop and mission directive. The system includes the following:
● Multiple Training Programs: Leadership, Six Sigma, New Hire, etc.
● Customised training program for your specific organisation.
● Works for organisations of any size.
● Can be used by departments within an organisation.
● Organisations can select from from 42 Leadership Skills.
● Uses Kinaesthetic Learning Techniques.
Special Ops Gibraltar, another strand of our leisure experience business, has been trusted to provide team building experiences by many local companies such as EY Accountants, Hassans, Securitek, Lotto Land and even the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and visiting Royal Engineers. Our facebook page Espionage.games can offer some insight of what missions entail, but without giving away too much.
Castiel Winser decided to take the videography package which offers a spy’s point of view and is fun viewing.
Earlier this year Espionage.games went international and was contracted to offer our Professional Development through Kinaesthetic Gaming package in London for a cyber-security seminar. Over 200 delegates from businesses around the UK will be attending. We flew over to recce the five star Kympton Fitzroy hotel as the chosen venue and shall return in March next year with an agreed and carefully orchestrated mission, relevant to the seminar content, and with pride in being able to showcase what Gibraltar’s service sector can achieve.

Timothy Dalton -- the most underrated Bond. As intense as Daniel Craig but, where Craig is rather crude and rough-hewn, there is an elegance to Dalton that is very appealing. He was a simply a victim of unfortunate timing. Roger Moore had set a tone of lightheartedness in the series, so when the saturnine Dalton came on the scene the contrast was just too jarring for many people.

Dalton’s Bond is the closest to the version in the books. The problem is the movies had deviated so much from the books that being faithful to the original source material no longer mattered. I also think viewers and critics experienced a kind of whiplash going from Moore to Dalton. Brosnan would eventually find the right balance, not as comical as Moore but not as serious as Dalton. But Dalton was clearly the best actor to play Bond, owing to his training as a Shakespearean actor. It’s unfortunate that viewers and critics weren’t quite ready for a more serious portrayal of a secret agent. It wasn’t until Chris Nolan’s Batman and the Bourne series following the cartoonish Die Another Day that the time was right for a serious and gritty Bond. Dalton was ahead of his time.

Sir you are very right. But it was not possible for all Fleming novels to follow same theme For movies: e.g. Th spy who loved me, Moon Raker, Casinio Royale, Octopussy, The man with the golden gun. They stuck to novel themes in 6-7 movies which was possible for them.

I totally dig him as Bond and feel he was just that bit more believable and realistic, as a 'specialist secret agent and weapon'. He had a mix and balance of British reserved charm and wit, together with a fiercely focused intensity and shrewd intelligence. He was there to get the job done and take no prisoners! I think Sean Connery and Roger Moore were more at home in the role of ladies-man and bed hopping, though, Timothy being more of the serious and sensitive type.

Good point. I have come to view the Bonds like this: Craig: The rookie Bond transitioning from Royal Navy Commando and Intelligence Officer to MI6 Operative. Shown by his defaulting to commando destruction when things go sideways. Connery: More polished but as time goes on can see the wear of the business shining through Lazenby: BUrned out and ready to retire. Dalton: Post murder of his wife, the gleam is gone leaving the lethal operative who is only maintaining control due to his sense of duty Brosnan: Has regained his balance. As lethal as before and better able to become immersed in the roles required for his missions. Moore: WE won't talk about fake Bond. "You're reputation Precedes You." *Shudder*

The beginning of Dalton, but the last of John Barry. The revised "techno" version of the Bond theme during the fight scene was a masterpiece, putting a updated spin on the classic theme to bring in a new era but keeping it classic enough for continuity sake.

@@boke75 well Dalton was supposed to do 3 movies, and after licence to kill, the work for the third bond movie was in work until there was a lawsuit between MGM and United artist which took 6 years to settle. What many people are not aware of is that the Jeep segment of the action scene is not quite what it seems. The scene is much longer than the road it starts on (known in the military as Middle Hill) and the scene could only be achieved with clever editing. The scene is cut into various segments which are on different roads not following one another. Middle Hill Battery is still under MoD control as an important area for telecommunications. The road that leads to Middle Hill Battery is called Rock Gun Road and the scene where Timothy Dalton (or his stunt double), jumps onto the jeep's canopy is at the gate and junction of Signal Station Road.

Not only is this a great James Bond movie, it's a fantastic movie period. No world domination, no mass extinction plans, just a smarmy drug dealer who tried to use MI5 and they said, "Aw hell no!" Plus a magnificent score!

Unlike Connery, and Brosnan and Moore, Dalton was an established classical stage actor.

That was the most contrived action scene EVER. I want my eight minutes back.

Oh and Roger Moore wasn’t contrived to the max? The man got old to the point where he had body doubles for RUNNING.

Timothy Dalton: the only suave, witty, good-looking, appropriately aged, actually English Bond who looks like he could in fact kill you and smile while doing it. All the Bonds have their charms, but Dalton is my "problem eliminator".

That's the first couple of Bond-minutes I ever saw on the big screen. What a way to start, isn't it? So don't ask me if Dalton was a great Bond, he was robbed of more movies. But did we ever hear him complain? Great guy, great Bond.
