The Shi’a who use this Surah to criticise the Sahaba: Qur’an verses about Sahaba As Allaah chose for His message the most pure-hearted of His slaves (i.e., the Prophets), so too He chose as the heirs of the Prophets those who would be grateful for this blessing and who were fit for this honour (of conveying the message), as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “Allaah knows best with whom to place His Message” [al-An’aam 6:124] Yes, the companions are as Allah mentions, all the muhajireen, all the ansaar, those who accepted Islam before the conquest of Mecca and after the conquest; “And the first to embrace Islam from the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.” (9:100) “Allah has already forgiven the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful” (9:117) “Those who believed, emigrated, and strived with their wealth and lives in the cause of Allah, as well as those who gave them shelter and help-they are truly guardians of one another.” (8:72) Allah says in the Qur’an (59:8 to 59:10) after mentioning the Muhajireen and Ansaar (companions) about how to deal with the mistakes of the Sahaba. Allah says; (And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allâh and to please Him, and helping Allâh (i.e. helping His religion) and His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say). (59:8) And (it is also for) those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given (from the booty of Banû An-Nadîr), and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful. (59:9) “**And (the ones) who came even after them** say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who went before us in belief, and **do not set up in our hearts rancor towards (the ones) who have believed.** Our Lord, surely You are Ever-Compassionate, Ever-Merciful." (59:10) Allah promise **ALL** of the Sahaba Jannah: “Not equal among you are those who spent before the conquest [of Makkah] and fought [and those who did so after it]. Those are greater in degree than they who spent afterwards and fought. But to ***ALL***has promised the best [reward]. And Allah, of what you do, is Aware.”(57:10) “The Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) has believed in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and the believers as well. ***ALL***have believed in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers. “We make no division between any of His Messengers,” and they have said: “We have listened, and obeyed. Our Lord, (we seek) Your pardon! And to You is the return.” (2:285) “And the ones who emigrated in (the cause of) Allah even after they were done an injustice, indeed We will definitely locate them in the present life (Literally: the lowly life, i.e., the life of this world) a fair (location), and indeed the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if they did (only) know.” (16:41) “Those who have believed, emigrated, and strived in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. It is they who will triumph. Their Lord gives them good news of His mercy, pleasure, and Gardens with everlasting bliss, to stay there for ever and ever. Surely with Allah is a great reward.” (9:20-22) “Verily, those who give Bai‘ah (pledge) to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) they are giving Bai‘ah (pledge) to Allâh. The Hand of Allâh is over their hands.” (48:10) “Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquillity upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest” (48:18) “Those who believed, migrated, and struggled in the cause of Allah, and those who gave ˹them˺ shelter and help, they are the true believers. They will have forgiveness and an honourable provision.” (8:74) “Those who have left their homes, or been driven out therefrom, or suffered harm in My Cause, or fought or been slain,- verily, indeed I shall wipe out their evil deeds from them, and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath;- A reward from the presence of God, and from His presence is the best of rewards.” (3:195) “Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the Messenger of Allâh. ****And those who are with him**** are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see ***them*** bowing and falling down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allâh and (His) Good Pleasure. The mark of **them** (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of prostration (during prayers). This is *their description in the Taurât* (Torah). But *their description in the Injeel* (Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, and becomes thick and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers, that He may **enrage the disbelievers with them**. Allâh has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islâmic Monotheism, the religion of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم till the Day of Resurrection) and do righteous good deeds, *forgiveness and a mighty reward* (i.e. Paradise).” (48:29) Allaah forgave those of the Sahaabah who turned back on the day of Uhud, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “Those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met (i.e. the battle of Uhud), it was Shaytaan (Satan) who caused them to backslide (run away from the battlefield) because of some (sins) they had earned. But Allaah, indeed, has forgiven them. Surely, Allaah is Oft‑Forgiving, Most Forbearing” (Aal ‘Imraan 3:155) If you’re from the Shi’a here’s my message to you; The Sahaba are those whom Allah has mentioned in the Qur’an. Allah has categorised the people in the prophets lifetime into; muhajireen, ansaar, wives of the prophet, those who accepted Islam before the conquest of Mecca, those who accepted Islam after the conquest of Mecca, Quraysh (including Arab pagans), Jews, disbelievers in general, bedouins and hypocrites. Each of these categories is differentiated by Allah clearly in the Qur’an, so don’t try to bring verses about hypocrites since they’re a different category to the companions as Allah mentions in the Quran. For example, the Ansaar are from the tribes Aws and Khazraj in medina, among them tribes were hypocrites but Allah said to follow all of the Ansaar and not the tribes. The Muhajireen and Ansaar when we call them Sahabi/Sahaba it is a legislative term used. Allah is pleased with them. ***Them verses about the hypocrites also include Ahlul Bayt by Shi’a logic since they were also present.*** Therefore, when the sahaaba who are not infallible or prophets (Muhajireen, Ansaar, those who accepted Islam before the conquest of Mecca and after, wives) are warned by Allah and admonished, it doesn’t negate the fact that they were all promised Jannah, forgiven and have received Allah’s pleasure since the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was also admonished and corrected by Allah for his mistakes (8:67, 9:43) in the Qur’an just like other prophets such as Nuh, Yunus, Musa, Adam, Sulaiman and so on (peace be upon them all) in the Qur’an. (Refer to: 9:43, 11:45-47, 21:87-88, 37:143:144, refer to the story of Musa and Khidr in the Qur’an, 28:15-19, 38:30-34, 7:19-24, 8:67) Shi’a can’t bring a single verse where SPECIFICALLY Allah said that the companions (muahjireen, ansaar, those who accepted Islam before the conquest and after the conquest) are upon falsehood, cursed, hypocrites and going to hell. Allah SPECIFICALLY praises and forgives the companions. For you to refute that, you have to bring SPECIFIC verses mentioning that they are upon falsehood AND THERE ARE NO VERSES. It is known that something specific is not ruled over by something general. Rather the Shi’a, they bring ambiguous and unclear verses to back their beliefs which goes against the principles of the Quran as Allah says the following; It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. AS FOR THOSE IN WHOSE HEARTS IS DEVIATION [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.
