YES!!!! Finally Gardena Bowl makes the big time on B&L's channel. I was a regular there in the early 90's and still make a stop each time I'm in SoCal. My grown kids love it too. That Portuguese sausage is da bes! Nothing has changed...not even the plates 🙂. Anyways, another great video. Thanks for all the local tips.

I owe the Gardena bowl to why I was born and for my family. My mom worked as a waitress because my great-grandpa was a cook, and grandma worked the register. On my Sicilian/Irish side, my nana worked in the bar and introduced my mom to my bio dad. I used to sleep on the barstools when she would open, and I would help serve water to tables when I wasn't running around and playing the arcade games.. My grandpa (adopted) was a longshoreman at the long beach docks, originally from Hawaii with no family here, and was a regular. When my babysitter would cancel, he asked my mom if she wanted help with me and my mom, being her, said sure, take him! We quickly adopted him into our family, and he took care of and raised me, my sister, and my brother. He was the most amazing man that ever was. Gardena bowl is an extraordinary place and not one to be missed.

I'm surprised and impressed that King's makes their own noodles. One of the best noodle makers around has a factory in the LA area, Sun Noodle. They make all kinds of noodles, including ramen, saimin, soba, and Okinawan soba noodles. They also supply many, many ramen shops all across the U.S. But the really good thing is that some Asian markets also carry their noodles.

I will definitely try it out soon. Of course, one can never go wrong with King’s Hawaiian. I love their oxtail soup with gohan. Thank you both for sharing all of these amazing places! I private messaged you both on Instagram, about the Mazesoba dish at Dashiwa Ramen in Arcadia. It’s a soupless ramen dish with up to 11 ingredients. The noodles are mochi mochi, and the toppings are charsiu, spicy minced pork, nori, green onion, garlic, onsen egg, katsuobushi, with chili oil and vinegar on the side. It’s truly an explosion of umami flavor. I truly believe that you would both LOVE this dish. I find myself craving it…. I truly hope you can try it one day. Need to go to Maile’s and Gardena Bowl next time I visit Torrance. As a sidenote, back in the day, saimin (pronounce min like win) was usually eaten with a couple of bbq meat sticks. That was onolicious! Some of the mom and pop stands still serve that. Saimin is typically a curlier noodle with either a fish or shrimp dashi. If there isn’t char siu available, you can always have thin strips of spam. 😜🤙🏽
