Great video! Made a quasi daunting job a relative breeze. When picking up the parts my dealer Kyle told me about the “shop vac trick” to decrease the hydraulic fluid leak during the filter change. Had my son hold the shop vac over the input hole and likely lost less than 100 mls while swapping out the filters. Have no idea how much I would have lost otherwise. Thanks again!

Many thanks Gordon. I knew which filter was which sitting on the workbench, but clearly I wasn't paying close enough attention to the diagrams about where each one went on the tractor. Total rookie mistake. Have a great weekend up north (playing in the snow?) FYI...It's 70°F here today (Fri), snow forecast for Sunday. Typical February weather here in Virginia!

TIP. When changing the HST and SUCTION filters use a shop vac. to draw a vacuum on the HYD oil reservoir at the fill hole. You will not loose hardly any oil. I tried this on my B2650HSDC. It works ! To be honest I saw this on another You Tube channel.

Thanks for watching Roy, and that's a great tip. Did you just stick the hose over the fill or do you try to get a tight seal?
@royp8548
@royp8548 2 жыл бұрын
@@watershedoverlook You don't need a super tight seal but you want enough of a seal to pull the HYD oil back into the reservoir instead of it going into the drain pan. You really need two people. One to use the shop vac. and one to replace the filter is the easiest way.

It looks like your brake pedal grease zerk fitting didn’t accept grease, might be clogged. Also the FEL requires grease labeled EP (extreme pressure, also it needs to contain at least 3% moly. EP moly grease is almost always black, looked like you used a poly lithium grease.
@watershedoverlook
@watershedoverlook Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. I realized when I reviewed the footage that I hadn't gotten grease into the brake zerk and did go back and address that. I was completely unaware of the EP grease though...I will definitely investigate that further. Thanks for watching and the great comment! 👍😎

Wonderful video. I have several Kubota products and while I believe they are top notch, their manuals are not the most clearly written and in some cases are wrong. I guess it could be a translation issue but the are disappointing in some regards. Also actual photographs of the area would be better that illustrations. It’s easy to get disoriented on front/back, left/right on the machine as you did with the hydraulic/HST filters. My diesel zero turn and my X1120RTV have different colored filters to eliminate that issue but the tractors like my L3830 are both white. Your a very detail oriented guy, which is great, are you a pilot or in the military? Keep up the good work
@watershedoverlook
@watershedoverlook 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Steve and for the kind words. As someone who has worked for years in graphic communications I find it very easy to pick apart product documentation. In the case of my Kubota manuals I am quite annoyed that they didn't predict all my questions and searches in advance! OK, not really, but I did find a few spots where I think a bit more annotation or cross-referencing might have been beneficial. Honestly, I think my REAL issue was just trying to do two things at once--that is perform the service and stage/light/film it at the same time. (I'm not a great multitasker. 😉) You are correct though, I can get pretty detail-oriented (some might say super anal-retentive 🙄) and I am a private pilot, although I have not been current in a long time. I was never in the military but I am the proud son of a USAF fighter pilot (F-86 Sabre jets) and the proud father of an active duty airman who gets to fly in everything from B-52s to F-15s as an Airborne Combat Photojournalist with the 1st Combat Camera Squadron. Thanks again...👍😎✈

My dealer said to compress all Hydraulic cylinders beforehand. Is there a reason they would say that? Yours are all the way open so reason I asked.
@watershedoverlook
@watershedoverlook 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I suppose if you were changing the hydraulic/trans fluid compressing all the cylinders would theoretically allow you to drain more of the older fluid but that's just a guess. I just reviewed the manual for the tractor and for the loader and didn't find that included in the procedure, but I would be inclined to trust the experience of trained service pros. I'll ask around and if I can find anything I'll reply here again. Just to be clear, you were talking about the tractor service and not greasing the loader, correct? (FYI, nothing about compressing the cylinders while greasing in the manual either! 😉)
@selfsupporting794
@selfsupporting794 2 жыл бұрын
@@watershedoverlook yes correct I'm talking about performing the actual service. Wasn't sure if that's why the Hydraulics were a little sensitive at the end they're.
@watershedoverlook
@watershedoverlook 2 жыл бұрын
Anytime you introduce air into the system (oil/filter change) you will need to cycle the cylinders a few times to purge the air. It certainly seems feasible that compressing the cylinders beforehand might minimize the air, but it will purge in a few cycles either way. So says the NON expert! 😉👍😎

I thought oil filters were hand tight ONLY. I have never in my 53 years ever used a wrench to reinstall an oil filter.
@watershedoverlook
@watershedoverlook 2 жыл бұрын
John, you are correct. The manual indicates that you should hand tighten the filter until it contacts the block, then tighten it an additional 1/2 turn. That is pretty much what I did, albeit with the wrench since my hands were pretty oily. I did probably over-tighten, but not significantly. Perhaps it will come back to haunt me, but in all my 60 years it hasn't happened yet. 😉😄 Thanks for watching and for the great comment. 👍😎
