I hope you enjoy this one. I think I fixed the sound issues and changed the font for the on screen text - let me know if that works your end.

These early catch up videos are showing me tidy up. Plans are in but I was STRICTLY told to not make any structural changes until the plans are approved. I do get to do knocking walls down and updating windows but that is all to follow.

I hear the requests to get into the detail of how I found the house and the buying process so will figure out a way to get that in a nice segment so that those not looking for this level of information can skip past.

Also - the field / land part. A neighbour has been growing crops on it while I get my plans and permissions in line. I am not profiting in any way from them but it seems only right to use the fertile land for their farming. Lovely neighbours.

Thank you all. What a start! Thank you - thank you - thank you. 🙌

You need a dog and a couple of goats to clear all that vegetation instead of you breaking your back. Animals do the job so much better than humans do. Does anybody hire out goats in your area? I've cleared blocks of land far worse than what you've got there using goats. They trample everything, eat everything and manure the ground enriching the soil.

But what about the trash in between, are goats smart enough to eat around the trash?

Chickens might also be an idea, as they also clear out large parts of dense scrub and of course produce eggs!

No one has mentioned it yet so I’ll toss my 2 pence in… Your deck will endure the weather better, both wet and dry, if you put a wood sealing treatment on it. The direct sunlight will do nearly as much to affect the wood as the rain will. I also echo one of the other commenters that watching a couple videos on how to use a chainsaw safely to remove a tree would be worth your time. A pair of chaps is a good idea also.
@threeacresofmarche

Thanks @bobhazelton5324 Chaps on order today after reading the tips and advice. It is so nice how many comment and support. The deck was treated but I expect the legs to be useless when it comes to take it down. It is only temporary until the terracing goes in.👍

@@threeacresofmarcheRichard, I feel for you with the backbreaking work you are doing here. Obviously a mini excavator was not in the budget but it would have come in very handy. I don’t know what your plans are overall and how much digging and rooting you need to do …….. just a suggestion…….. if you have a lot of that kind of work to do and renting is not an option then maybe consider buying a decent used machine which you might use for a year and then sell it when you are finished. If you are any way lucky you might get most of your money back when you sell it. Now, regarding your deck 😂 …… I don’t want to rain on your parade or be in any way negative. I know it is a temporary deck and you only want two years out of it. It definitely was not constructed in what I would call a conventional manner. The floor boards look pretty light and you seem to have a lot of unsupported overhang at the two long ends. I could see that the tails of the boards are starting to curl up already. Now you confirmed in the comments that this video is from last year so what I am suggesting may be too late at this point. Normally on a deck the floor boards would bear on some support members all the way at the ends. You have no support there and I am sure you are not going to redo it now. As a sort of temporary stop gap measure to prevent the ends of the boards warping like crazy I think I would try take an extra floor board and clamp it underneath at the very edge. Then screw all the ends to that board to help support it and keep everything together. I know you also mentioned that you have used a wood sealer so that will help a bit. Otherwise, keep up the good work. You will not need any gym membership with all the exercise you are getting on this job. Looking forward to seeing how you progress. Unfortunately, if you are posting your videos with a long time delay any helpful comments or advice on what you are doing will not be much use and may cause you some frustration. I feel bad for you that the Brexit situation has such an impact on the time you can spend at your property……….. that is a total nuisance. That may also cause you to have a long time delay in posting your videos. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

Hi @Peter-gi3re The excavator is on the wish list that I am saving up for. It would make life easier as there is so much it could do to help. That deck was fired up in 2 hours or so. One of my favourite KZfaqrs is @Bourbonmoth so when it comes to making things like sunloungers I will be planning to make them to last. I will attempt a higher level of joinery DIY'ness for those things. Suprisignly that deck is really solid! I use it all the time and when friends come over it holds us all up safely....famous last words .😂 It has surved its purpose well. Being honest, once I figures I could get a kitchen upgrade from that pile of wood I did tweak the leg design as I needed a few lengths for that super, also banged up in an hour, kitchen (I think I will drop that in the next video). Thanks for the top tips.👍

Please watch some chainsaw training videos and you must wear protection. Kickback when you are cutting trees with ivy on is quite common and the helmet will help save you from severe injury. The second you’ve cut through some wood click the brake, it is a pain but it should become second nature. Loving following your journey.

Greetings from Canada. I am enjoying your channel. My only suggestion is regarding the use of a chainsaw. It is an unforgiving tool but very versatile. Buy yourself a pain of cutting chaps, they cover from your ankles to your waist. If the saw kicks back, it will minimize injury. Buy a pair of steel toed boots. There are some great KZfaq videos on falling trees. You have to watch out for widow makers and trees which can twist back on to you, when falling. Keep up the great work. Your place is taking shape.

Viewer from Arkansas in the USA. Two yrs ago I moved from a cabin in Tennessee to three acres outside of a little college town. I liked the house because it wasn’t too big but the garage will store my motorcycle and campervan. The previous owner let a lot of the area get overgrown with small trees and vines so your struggle is very real to me. Hang in there. It’s a brute force job. Only simple tools will work. Your dream is very worth the trouble. I’ve watched house reviews of Italian properties for a couple of years. Very interesting.

Looking forward to seeing this renovation and the refreshing of the property progress. As a former in the field construction guy (now middle management Sr PM) I am envious of your undertaking. This is the kind of endeavor I would like to attempt someday, maybe once the kids are grown and off to college and careers. Not to get to personal but I am curious about you and why at this time in your life you chose to pursue this endeavor. Wife, kids?

Great work Richard on the deck, as someone else mentioned, a sunshade would be useful as it's so exposed. Well done on getting the tree down safely. The roof tiles are beautifully aged, hopefully you get to keep them all and only replace some of those underneath.

Here in the States, you can actually get a spray which will clean up the algae and mold off of your tiles. Given your roof doesnt look very wide, you can probably just spray from the ladder as opposed to walking on it which I wouldn't do either. Not sure on the cost as when I had a tile roof(We switched to metal) I would just hire a guy who specialized in it to come and spray it. Made the tiles look like new without pressure washing. Just had to make sure there were no plants under the eaves. Blows my mind on how hot it looks there in January. Maybe the East side is warmer than the west side.

I've just subbed. It seems like a piece of heaven. I lived in the foothills of the Pyrenees for five years, in Catalunya. Being an ex-pat is never easy, but when you have stunning scenery it's SO worth it :o) I loved watching the stars most nights, it's amazing to have clear skies, I really miss it now back in the UK.

You can save all the wood, cut it in around 1 foot long ,make a stack and cover with metal roofing that used instead of wheelbarrow. Later split it and you got enough firewood for an year

@@threeacresofmarche I lived in northern Russia where it's much colder and more rain than in Italy. I was taught to place some plastic on ground then stack wood then cover top. Wood won't rot if limited moisture and enough air movement.

Incredible find (land and structure) in a wonderful area! I think you need a straw hat on the warm/hot days to allow venting and some shade protection better than a bucket hat. Also, some work boots will give you better traction. I cringed when I saw you slip with the chainsaw in hand. Don't forget the eye protection, too!

Could you do a video about the buying of the property - what agencies did you use , whats the process any pitfalls to watch out for ? Im in a asimilar situation but have spent alot of time looking in France and have come to realise all the issues with the country (expensive to live in - taxes - healthcare mutuelle system) but I speak french and wifey is French so was wondering do you speak any Italian or have connections there? A bit more about you and they why and wherefore would be great!

Looking good. Remember, shade will be your friend later on. The views are spectacular. I bought a house in Morra, Umbria. Very near the Umbrian/Toscana border. I go once a year for two more trips then for good. Le Marche is spectacular and I enjoy it. So far most of my time there has been near Apecchio. The mountainous northern region. So many directions to go and explore and yes, the grounds rumbles every now and then. How are things going this winter season?
