The thing that really gets me is those words "Please return to your cabin".... (and wait for us to get you out of this....) This is horrifying because it is EXACTLY what hundreds of kids on the Korean ferry Sewol were told to do, they were very inclined to obey the authority of their teachers and the like, and it proved a death sentence for almost all of them. For that matter, many office workers in the then undamaged World Trade Center Tower #2 were told the same thing.... "go back to your offices" (so you are not "in the way" of rescue authority). Some who made it to the very ground floor lobby of the WTC then returned up the tower, and of course were never seen again. Lesson to all -- when it is an emergency situation, and you have placed yourself somewhere that it is reasonably easy if necessary to get the hell off or out, even if dangerous to do so, DO NOT EVER EVER EVER listen to ANYONE who tells you to go somewhere that you cannot escape and "hope for the best". It is heart wrenching for sure!!! I was at a crowded festival last weekend and my 11 year daughter approached a little boy of about 4 and leaned down to talk to him. I could not imagine why or hear what she was saying to him over the crowd and music, but apparently she noticed him crying softly and he appeared to her to be separated from his parents. So she called me over and told me this boy was indeed lost. The look of sheer terror and fear on his little face was gutting. Luckily I had just seen a couple of policemen working the event pass us just a moment before so I told my daughter to hold his hand while I ran off in to the grounds scanning for them. Fortunately I am 6'3" and can see over 95% of people! I saw them pretty soon and caught up to them. I brought them back to the boy and I was very moved at how instantly kind, cheerful sounding and comforting these police officers were to this boy. I was happy and grateful to hand that off! But it did occur to me how very traumatic this would be for the kid, something he is likely to carry vaguely his entire life. I made a complete ass out of myself at a Target store when my kid was about the same age (actually she was somewhat younger, probably 3) I was looking at something in an aisle one second and the next she was out of my sight!!! I sprinted several aisles with no sign of her and suddenly decided to start screaming at the top of my lungs "PLEASE YOUR ATTENTION, A LITTLE GIRL IS SEPARATED FROM ME, PLEASE WATCH AND SEAL ALL EGRESS OF THE STORE IMMEDIATELY. SHE IS BLOND WITH BLUE EYES WEARING (whatever she was wearing I don't recall) !!!!!" LOL. A few seconds later she ambles around a corner up to me. I swear I almost stroked tf out!!! That was enough for me. I started using the harness/leash we scoffed at as a shower gift!!!

I was also lost at a fair once, and a very kind man found me, put me on his shoulders, and helped me find my mother, who was absolutely out of her mind with terror. I'd been swept away by a big crowd. I know the feeling as well. It's also stuck with me, it's total hopelessness. I still think the man was some kind of a guardian angel or something, he was the nicest possible guy in the world. It could've been much worse for a kid on his own.
@michaelesgro95063 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealestEric Yeah, I imagine no one would ever completely forget something like that! I was glad I found the police or I might have had to do the same thing. The thing is I love kids so much, all the more since having my own (prior to which I liked them, but admit to largely ignoring them most of the time LOL) but my experience has been mixed showing them attention and affection in this sick world we reside in. Not saying I blame anyone either. Be as rude and suspicious as you want of me and all others I say. That attitude will save many children in the long run!!

Few people realize how very difficult and highly dangerous it is to disembark 4000+ passengers via lifeboat from a heavily listing ship. It does not take much of a list to make 50% of the lifeboats un-launchable. Few also know that if not for the ocean current this ship would have sunk in deep water with the loss of hundreds of lives. It drifted to shore. The water was a cold 57 F. Man was stupid, God was merciful!

But scale down to the size of a full grown adult male, at water level, and that distance isn't as close as you think. Granted, they are still close to shore...but it's still far to swim and difficult to do with clothes on. Not to mention all the children and babies who can't swim, would have to be carried while trying to swim themselves. Also, the rocks, as well as the strong current at that time would be a problem. She immediately grabbed all the important stuff like their passports, medications, wallets, etc. and bum rushed pass the staff who were telling her to go back the other way. Her husband was tossed to the floor when a chair came hurdling at him from a room whose door was propped open with a chair. She said everyone who saw that immediately started hauling ass. A lot of the men stayed and were helping the elderly get to the deck because they were almost at a 45 degree angle. Luckily they made it off Alive. She said if she would’ve went back listening to the crew, she would’ve died with all the other people on her hall who were trapped on a corridor and drowned. She said she was still seeing a psychiatrist and in therapy because of the trauma of it all to this day. Any movie on boats or large open bodies of water make her sick to her stomach and causes severe anxiety. Prior to this happening she was an avid beach goer here in Jersey and would go to Hawaii twice a year to surf with her husband. After this she won’t even go to sit on the sand at the beach because of the PTSD! The real kicker is they were refunded almost 6 Months later for the cost of their tickets and $200 for their valuables each. She said she had to fight tooth and nail to get the money back from her charge card used on the ship and at the bar. She ultimately won because they couldn’t produce receipts, because the ship was at the bottom of the ocean and all.. I couldn’t imagine.

The "captain" Francesco Schettino literally testified he fell of the boat and into a life boat but in the end still refused to get back on board. He was later sentenced is 2015 to 16 years in prison. 10 years for manslaughter, 5 years for the wreak and 1 year for abandonment. The Naval officer Gregorio de Falco who was yelling for the "captain" to get back on board of course does not believe he simply fell onto a life boat and is currently a member of the Italian Senate.

What a coward. It literally comes in the contract of being a captain. Yeah it's horrifying and morbid but it's code. Captain is the last one on the ship.

Well considering they were both sinking ships, it kinda had to be like the Titanic!!
@bingoringo91603 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the titanic was a way worse outcome since they weren't close to any land nearby and the water was freezing to all heck. And the casualties were much higher than this ship, out weighting the numbers of survivors. But at least the ship's crew in the titanic didnt abandon their post until the very end.
@314rft3 жыл бұрын
@@bingoringo9160 The titanic is actually why all ships are required to always carry more than enough life boats. I don't know the exact number, but I heard it must be much higher than max capacity of the ship.

You must be kidding? This is obviously done only on phone cameras... coz the footage is waaay too blurry. I know if I were going on a cruise... I would film with my cannon digital camera. Its by far better than this. Even if some thing is 100 meters away, even if u don't zoom in with it until after its filmed & ur replaying it, it will appear like its right in front of the camera. These have gotta be the worst quality phone cameras.

Generally, there are only two reasons that a boat is listing. It is taking on water or it has hit something and is no longer floating. Not that there is a problem with the engine.

That one father whose two daughters were so upset (the poor little sweethearts) was such a good dad, trying to minimize the events, probably got on his wife's nerves when he talked about the bottle of wine they paid for but inside he had to have been so afraid for his family but stayed strong for them. As terrible as this event was I can't help but appreciate the way so many passengers managed to keep it together and be respectful of others in an emergency. The "captain" was happy to take pictures with his passengers when it suited him to be in charge but the minute that things got scary he was unwilling to live up to his title. Cowardice in a crisis is not what we expect from a Captain, the kindness of the strangers taking survivors into their homes was such a contrast to his shameful behaviour. The dad who was making "dad jokes" all the way through knew how to keep things together too, "laugh or you'll cry" as they say. This was really well done, just having the videos speak for themselves with no narration. Thank you for sharing. ❤
