It’s mind blowing how fast this went from a rope to a wedge.2:25 to 2:30 Him: it’s coming this way. Her: I knownits coming this way Him: we should get inside Her: it’s no use getting inside. That is true. It wiped Double Creek off the map completely.

There are lot of good reasons to get inside, especially if they have a basement or shelter. If not, it’s better than standing there. And three people in Double Creek survived, mainly because they were on the outer edge.

I grew up in Central Texas... This day forever humbled Me.I was ten and I lived ten minutes away from Jerrell. Never seen so many Twisters. I hope I never see another one as long as i live.Much less get bonked in the head by hail larger than golf balls! RIP to all lost and prayers for the rest of us...

Thanks for the vid!!! Very few 'new' videos have come along with this tornado; most were posted shortly after the event. A level of destruction we hope to never have happen again!

Hello, I am retired senior citizen and my grandson is a new meteorologist (congrats). We had family gathering last month and of course my first question to him, "which tornado was most powerful," without hesitation he said, "Jarrell." Then he pulled out his laptop and proceeded to show me some Jarrell ground/aerial photos, and those vacant concrete slabs were visually shocking. He also said, "twisting speed was 300 mph but what made this tornado so extraordinary was it's slow movement intensifying it's destruction substantially." So here i am and what i researched myself in 30 days was mesmerizing yet eerie. First and foremost R.I.P. to those that perished and my condolences to all family members/friends. 27 deaths caused by the tornado occurred within one subdivision of Jarrell, a neighborhood of 38 well built houses called Double Creek Estates. Each residence was completely swept away and reduced to a concrete slab. The twister produced some of the most extreme ground scouring ever documented as the earth at and around Double Creek was scoured out to depths of 18 inches reducing lush fields of grass to vast expanses of mud. The tornado left an unbroken swath of barren earth vacant of fences, telephone poles, trees, pavement and homes that once dotted the landscape. Cars and heavy wreckers were granulated into small pieces and scattered across the earth never to be identified, think about that for a ..moment. The cause of death for most of the victims was tactfully listed by the county coroner as "multiple trauma", although the truth was obviously far more grisly and difficult to explain to next of kin. Human and animal body parts reportedly littered the area for miles, creating an unbearable stench of decay. Police were forced to close off the entire area as a biohazard zone for weeks as cadaver dogs worked to find human body parts buried throughout the wreckage. Pieces were spread out on the floor of a local volunteer fire department - recovery teams tried to distinguish human remains from animal remains. Most had to be identified through dental records. Many were never recovered at all. What a nightmare. Timothy P. Marshall is a structural and forensic engineer as well as meteorologist. He has conducted more than 10,000 damage surveys of tornadoes, hurricanes and hailstorms. Tim is best of the best and after surveying Jarrell he said, "Houses were obliterated. The destruction was so intense, it serves as a baseline for which all other tornadoes are rated against." Regardless if tornado is moving forward at 8 mph or 80 mph, fact remains that so many surveyors consider Double Creek storm to be the most catastrophic tornado in terms of intensity still today 2022. I've seen photographs of Bridge Creek, Hackleburg-Phil Cambell, Bakersfield Valley, Smithville, Pomeroy, Udall, Brandenburg, Pampa, Parkersburg, Loyal Valley, Philadelphia-MS, Plainfield, Greensburg, Xenia, El Reno, Joplin and they do not compare to Double Creek Estates duration intensity, Nothing Does. I've learned and seen enough What did i learn ? That "Dead Man Walking" is an understatement And my advice ? If you see one, RUN !!!!

I enjoy watching footage from this era, as weird as it may sound or be! The atmosphere and climate was different back then than it is today. Even with deadly tornadoes, the atmosphere was easier and more assuring/tolerable than today. There was more peace, tranquility, harmony and a better "get along" society where we all still worked together and things seemed to work together for the good! I tend to despise today's climate...but God! Be blessed!

The human climate is on edge here in 2023 October 7th, many disappointed citizens who have been witness to an influx of illegal immigrants and bad actors find United States as a hub of opportunity even if its criminal in behavior. The bleeding hearts have taken over common sense.

Brilliant footage. Hope more continues to come out of this elusive beast! Even with the low quality you can see how incredibly violent the motion is. Around 5:00 is when it starts to hit the Double Creek Estates, you can see a huge debris cloud start to form.

I'm guessing around 9:30 is when it dissapaited? You can still see the debris cloud in the air but the main vortex looks like it fell apart. Crazy to think after it obliterated everything that it just kind of fall apart into nothing.

I think you mean at 6:00, that's when it made its turn to the west, right towards everybody outside watching, with no basement or shelter to take refuge from an evil energy. Hopefully it was quick for them and may they Rest in Peace.

@@Remliv I believe it hit the recycling plant at the northern corner of the estate at this time, as well as the couple of houses before it. It wasn't directly over Double Creek until it grew to its largest size. Bear in mind that this thing took probably 10 minutes to pass over.

Nobody with a vehicle should've died that day as slow as thus beast was moving. However, an f5 tornado anywhere in any location is an absolute rarity in itself. Add to it, the fact that this entire event was one of unexpected occurrence because 95/100 Tornadoes on this country move exclusively from the opposite direction, SW to NE or W to E, this one moved from N to S or even SSW at times, and as far as I know, they're was no build up (forecasts warning of the coming possible danger in the days prior to this deadly catastrophe). Most people have never even heard of a "gravity way". It's quite odd to me that such a setup could even occur in the natural world and be of such great magnitude. It just doesn't make sense to me and I'm pretty sure this vortex was also the opposite of 95% of Tornadoes as in anticyclonic, spinning clockwise instead of anti clockwise. The fact that this storm moved south at a pace a turtle could almost outrun is another weird fact about this event. If people would have had even an idea the possibility of such a thing happening existed, they would have been watching for it to happen and could have easily removed themselves from the path of this cloud of destruction, even if they had no other way than to run, lives would have been spared. What a great evil it would be if man had gained control or could influence the weather and thus use it as a weapon and or a means to create economical growth due to the destruction caused by such an event and the lives lost were just summed up as collateral damage.. smh.. I would not be surprised one bit either.

Proof that an F5 moving very slowly has time to do more damage than one moving 60mph. Maybe one day, the scientists will figure that out and ditch the idiotic method of determining wind speed based solely on the damage left behind. The record breaking El Reno tornado being a prime example. Completely ignored the doppler wind speeds, and judged it based on the grass it mowed down in a field.

Amazing coverage and I love the lady letting us know " zoom in, zoom out, it's HUMUNGUS!". It's so sad that while y'all were watching at around the 6 minute mark people were dying but you couldn't know that at the time. I live in Hewitt where this monster basically began just west of here. R.I.P. those who perished in this one of a kind horrible F6. Yea I said F6. Prove me wrong. Worst possible tornado ever! It just sat there and ate. BTW, I loved the 57 Chevy sitting in the yard. I had one back in the late 70's. Do y'all still have it? Man, Levon Helm singing at the end! I love you guys!

This looks like it was filmed at the back of Sonterra Estates before there where homes. If I am right, I lived just south-southwest of these folks location in 2012-2015.. It's a little scary to think now there r so many newer homes and new ones being built all the time n Jarrell and new businesses popping up all the time as well and it's common knowledge Jarrell is for whatever reason known to have Tornadoes and like this one some times large dangerous ones.. Not to often but still. Only takes one..

Tornadoes in central Texas are very rare, I lived in Austin for 20 years and saw one and remember 3 including the one in Cedar Park that was part of the same storm as the one that hit Jarrell. If you want to feel a sense of dread for how much worse a Jarrell sized tornado could be, take a drive thru dallas or oklahoma city. Or ask the folks in Moore OK.
