My R53 2005 Mini Cooper S had been making a horrible noise that got worse over a years time. I didn't want it to believe it was the timing chain because of how difficult that repair is. What I didn't know is how replacing just the timing chain tensioner could fix it, and how easy it was to fix. If your mini cooper of any year model is making that rattle, seriously consider replacing the less that $20 tensioner. I couldn't find any other video that didn't use basic tools to remove it and I found a way. If your r53 is manual transmission, then there's something in the way and I found a good way to get to it using normal tools. I hope this helps!
