The cottage-style residences known as Sylvan Road and Tyne Road no longer exist, having been demolished between the late 60s and mid-80s. While their amenities were basic, with no dedicated bathroom they would have represented a type of layout that is uncommon if not invisible in today's Ilford, if they had survived. Dare we say that such properties elsewhere in East London are highly desirable today (after a bit of sanitary upgrading). The arrival of the Centreway shopping precinct in 1972 encouraged car use to the area and a new multistorey car park was built to replace some of the houses and cater for shoppers driving to the new parade. Access between them came via a dedicated footbridge over the railway. Today the only indication that Sylvan Road existed is the street name post at the entrance of the bus terminus which sits partly on the former street's footprint. Tyne Road has been wiped off the map.
