‪@ManagementAdvantage‬ | Some habitat projects produce quick results and some do not. In the case of the James farm, this spring's project will offer both. Tom is taking 17 acres of production ag and turning it into a wildlife habitat. Some aspects of the project will produce quick results and some won't until many years down the road. It's a multi-faceted plan providing a variety of habitats for whitetails and other wildlife. Watch to see Tom's plan begin to unfold for this 17-acre chunk of his farm.

Exciting stuff. I too have the same mentality, to shape my land that will be impactful long after I am gone. I have hand planted 1,200 trees over the years & it's awesome to walk my property seeing trees I have planted that have grown into towering heavy specimens. To think I once carried a bundle of these trees bound by twine in my hand. Truly satisfying. Question for you, it appears you are in Midwest. Have you considered planting pockets of Spruce near your NWSG for thermal protection & enhanced bedding? I have done this and it has become the BEST bedding on my property. Also, have you considered screening for access, egress, to your sets? I like what you have done & love your decision to convert the Ag field. There is nothing like going out to your land & watching your work start to take shape during the growing season.

There is now lots of screening on the access trails. Pretty much bullet proof entry/exits!

Couldn’t you have just logged and hingecut your woods and then keep the heavy ag field how it is?

Absolutely could have. There is plenty of ag on and near this farm, but not much in the way of NWSG. Tom wanted to try and fill that void so he elected to go that route.
