Like all locks, picking dimple locks takes practice, practice, and more practice. Very frustrating without the correct dimple picks. Excellent tutorial once again.

Bingo! I've watched this video many times and been trying for ages to conquer just my dimple training lock. But now I used a regular tension tool instead of a Z-bar and succeeded. Thank you LN again for your excellent videos! :)

Nice Video! I just got my first dimple lock and this is helping me get it figured out.

I got one of these locks as part of a practice set. After a while staring at it I picked one side using a GOSO half diamond. The other side I will need to grind down the shaft of the pick to make it lower profile as to reach the rear pins the early ones get over set. When picked the lock jams at 90% but just using the pick to push all the pins up and it can be rotated fully around. So no probs. Looks like a set of dimple lock picks may be needed but as I have just brought a couple of multipick packs it may have to wait.

Any specific picks youd recommend for the clear acrylic dimple locks ? just got one in the mail. seems to be double sided. by the way the lock we chatted about is on its way across the pond to you as i type mate. have fun with it. have just upgraded my clear padlock as per your video. got the parts from sparrows. i could get addicted to spending money on that site, good prices too. was very easy to do too thanks to your instruction, now its a bit harder to pick but fun. just looking for a british dvla lock the lcc hardened lock they use on wheel clamps etc, numerous youtube videos about them . as always brilliant content from a realy great guy and talented picker. youve are my picking school haha.

I think I have the same as the second one on the left in the video. I bought it when I first started and had no clue what I was doing and tried picking it with a regular hook and it was a god-awful experience that only resulted in success through sheer stubbornness. Not only is it hard to get torque with a regular hook, but it also gets stuck in the keyway _incredibly_ easily.

Thank you...as a beginner I found this overview useful but when you got down to the picking...non of the things you describe verbally are shown... I want an extreme close up of terms like... counter rotation, clicking, binding, shear line.. these are still a mystery to me and I am still to see a lock picking demo that films what is going on inside the lock during picking... the wide shot of the transparent core is not good enough for my total lack of knowledge. I am a filmmaker not a lock picker. Can you help?

I hope you're seeing this and can give me an answer... I nearly destroyed my lock because of the following: At the end of the video on the other side of the lock, you can see a slit that's usually filled out with the key when you turn the lock regularly. Would you have turned it further with your tension wrench, the pins would had slid up tight into that slit and jam up the lock. How do I prevent that, assuming I aim to open up a door with picking this style of lock?

I like to learn and I found a previous clip of yours that was a heck of alot of help But this one clip really threw me out I was completely lost with the explanations that u gave here ... is t g ere any chance that u have done other clips on dimple locks ? I actually managed to pick a dimple lock with a standard hook but it took me 30 minutes at least. I also used a half diamond, shoved it in and twisted it to lift the pins.

Hey Noob. Cool vid. I've already watched tons of them- on everything- but I'm going to Thailand and Japan for 6 months and know Asia uses a lot of these, or so I've been told. Just got my Goso- like yours. I've pretty much 'mastered' SFIC's as they are all the University has and I lived there for 3 years. SO= gonna give it a go. Also going to be hitting Medeco's next, they're kind of the next type of lock I want to be proficient in. I usually do 'in-situ' so I won't be using a vice or any of that stuff. Not gonna bother w/ the M4 as it's too new and the M3 and before should suffice. Hey, 3 questions? 1. Did you modify your set, i.e.- sand the paddles down. I'm not forking out 400 on Multi's which I know are the best and good to go out the box. 2. Do you know about the Medeco 'Decoder'. I don't mean the gauge to figure out what the pins are- I mean the tool that you stick into the keyway and it allows you to rotate the pins for the sidebar? I had heard that it only worked on 'Pre' M3 models, as they now have like this overhang to thwart that, but I'd suppose there's plenty of pre-M3's still in use. AND, if you do know about this- How best to make one? I was thinking of modifying a small travelers hook, you could sand it down and it's about the right dimensions, though you'd have to make it thinner. 3. What locks do they use in Europe, specifically- France? After my 'Asian Excursion' I plan on moving and living in Toulousee. I plan on living in the U there or a Mall or something like that, lol. I know you're a Brit and probably have been there- and if you are a picker, you are, you probably, regularly, look at lock types, haha. It's one of the things I've noticed about myself when I got into pen testing a few years back= you look to see whats locked and with what. Hi, What is your approach when you pick one pin and another is falling down? No matter how hard my tension is or if i search for a different order of picking them i keep having one that falls down when picking another. I pick with tension in opposite direction, tried different tension wrenches,.. hours and hours and hours. It just wont work.. It seems so easy watching vids but i cant open one. I'm doing pretty well at picking tumblers and i'd like to get a dimple lock open that isnt a practice lock. I guess just practice more... I am stuck at the assa locks too, i have a V10 and twin, because i cant pick the fingerpins.

I am having a hard time finding a decent dimple lock pick kit. I really don't need a giant kit but at the same time I don't want just 1 or 2 picks. Its like everywhere is sold out of just doesn't carry picks for dimple locks. I know they are easy to make but I want to buy a kit first before making them.

Are these transparent practice locks any good? The reviews of those on Amazon have very mixed reviews, mainly that they don't lock, or are far to easy to open. Is there any particular brand to look for?

Hmm, i just single picked my dimple practicelock and it broke down. I got it open but now keys wont work on it. Any ideas what might have happened? The pins on the side that i opened are very loose but it wont let key in more than halfway

Now i dont need my dimple lock pick, i just use goso small half diamond pick. Before watch your video, i regret buying goso lock pick, almost i want to throw garbage, but fortunately i have not throw yet. Know i love them, but still pissed off the quality material Goso. Are u have a recomended lock pick set with good design like GOSO lock pick but with good quality material?

Just got this training dimple lock, I hate them!

I got one of these 'dimple locks' as part of a picking set, along with the standard acrylic padlock. The latter is a joke, way too soft and very easy to open. Not really a training device, as I struggle with 'real' locks like ABUS, CES (I am from Germany) etc. I am inching through my lock collection, with very little progress so far. Despite having read the 'bible' from the locksmith site, studying the physics and mechanics behind all methods. Hopeless. This dimple lock is VERY frustrating for amateurs, especially with cheap tools at hand. Even if seeing the pin position through these transparent locks I fail to individually set them properly; raking them has no merit either. I do not own 'flag' picks, just oodles of these standard ones in all sizes and shapes. Too thick shafts, too clumsy pick tips, no wiggle space.. Thanks for showing! You demonstrate that these cheap dimple demo locks CAN be opened, just not mine. But that problem is not with the lock itself, but with my own fingers..or brain.. or both.. Your audio leaves a lot to be desired (even YT has trouble to CC it). Please crank up the microphone, use a less muffled one with better high pitch sensitivity.
