A first for KZfaq and for me! My most recent inspection had me working with an EST4, EST's newest control panel! I had yet to come across one of these, as most of our EST installations are either EST3, EST3X, or an iO series control panel, but we have installed EST4's in a few places and this is one of them! Once you understand how to use them, they're very neat panels, and of course they're touch-screen. One major differentiation is that there is no Acknowledge feature (at least on this particular panel); when an event comes in, simply press the event line to highlight the event and then press the magnifying glass to view the event details, including the device's address. To silence the panel sounder, simply press the Panel Silence button. Other buttons include Fire Drill, Alarm Silence, and Reset. It closely mimics the EST3X without the annoyance of having to use the dial for everything. In addition, you're able to see a graphical tree of all the devices in the system and view its status. This is a major improvement over the EST3 and EST3X, where in order to see if a device existed in the system (or see what the device's description was), you had to know the device's address and then disable it and see if the disable trouble came in. Currently, our company is installing EST4s for new installations only; if an EST3 or EST3X is already installed, the existing panel is simply modified. I'm eager to mess around with one of these to get a better idea of how to operate them. We have one in our training room in our office, but due to the nation-wide item shortage, it's incomplete and often has parts taken from it when we need replacement parts quickly for a jobsite. Hopefully soon I'll be able to better explore with it.
As far as building devices go, installed are ceiling-mount LED GC series speaker/strobes and strobes. There are LED G1 remote strobes installed in a lot of places and there's also some LED G4S speaker/strobes installed in a few places. You can see the classrooms have remote strobes only and when in the classrooms, the alarm is very quiet, which is why around 2:28 a teacher was expressing concern about how quiet it was. Despite the quietness, it's a very nice install, and I'm thrilled I finally got the opportunity to work with one of these systems!
