I don't know what to say, the poetry, the understanding of the message, the worship of the sound, well everything is perfect. A legendary concert. They have never played so well before, and until now, neither have they. I feel all their notes and words. Wonder. And this song even crushes.

Such an underrated track, the song had me since the opening bass line. It's a slow, lumbering monster and I love it.

Pictures of You led an incredible number of anti-Cure pop followers to buy the album. After hearing Prayer for Rain we realized this was really something unprecedented. The rest of the album did not disappoint. In hindsight, Pictures of You was one of the weakest tracks on a once-in-a-lifetime album

The last five songs from the album are gems for patient listeners. As the first half was more commercial and "bright", we got the best songs at the ending.

One of the amazing things, is how Robert Smith's singing voice has stayed consistent. Yes, he does use vocal effects but he can still give a good acoustic performance even now he's well into his 50's. I've fallen in & out of love with The Cure but when it comes down to it, I always find The Cure an enduring musical love. Personally, I feel they're akin to Velvet Underground in many ways as you can never put them in 'A Box', even though people tried to, especially between 1980-83 & the 'Goth' label. I find it refreshing that The Cure have been commercial to some extent without having to release total pap. Yes, like any band they've released material that wasn't as great as other releases, but that always happens with truly innovative bands & performers..(Lou Reed, Neil Young, Bowie to name a few). As for Jason Cooper, I just don't understand why he gets so much stick? Ultimately 'Bob' is in charge & so decides what tempo etc songs are played at, not to mention, Jason Cooper has been the Cure's drummer longer than ANYONE. If he really was shit he'd be gone I feel. Maybe not THE BEST drummer the Cure have had, Boris is my fave but not the worst. Mr Tolhurst.....

Impossible to fall out of love with The Cure!!!! Loved them since their early albums. True about their unique space in rock, just like the Velvet Underground or The Doors

The Cure knew how to blend awesome rock riffs with rhythmic drums layered with great bass lines and synths. Not to mention Robert Smiths haunting vocals.

You shatter me Your grip on me A hold on me so dull it kills You stifle me Infectious sense of hopelessness And prayers for rain I suffocate I breathe in dirt And nowhere shines but desolate And drab the hours All spent on killing time again All waiting for the rain You fracture me Your hands on me, A touch so plain so stale it kills You strangle me Entangle me In hopelessness And prayers for rain I deteriorate I live in dirt And nowhere glows but drearily And tired the hours All spent on killing time again All waiting for the rain You fracture me Your hands on me A touch so plain So stale it kills You strangle me Entangle me In hopelessness And prayers for rain
