Lefeurouge The Divine liturgy is a slice of heaven on earth, Heaven opens as the Holy Spirit comes down, and in the midst of us, is Christ, celebrating with us!

I have removed all the combative comments from this video, and have changed to a moderated comment setting. My apologies for leaving this video un-moderated for the past several months. Since several have asked, at the point at which I look at my phone during the service, I am trying to find music for a hymn that I don't have memorized. This is the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom according to the Greek Orthodox tradition, celebrated in English at a parish of the Greek Archdiocese of America a few years ago.

*****, not saying that at al.. I was referring to his taking out his phone to look up lyrics to a Hymn. No, technology isn't used in chanting, I understand that.

Not sure what key teachings you mean....some of you Latin Rite folk complain a lot about the Mass ??? But with except minor differences any Orthodox Eastern Rite Church you go too Liturgy is same . you should just convert to Orthodox problem solved!

O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.

How many similarities and how many differences between Greek and Russian Orthodox worship. In Russia, always with great respect and reverence belong to the Orthodox Greeks. Peace be unto you our brethren!

this guy has a beautiful voice, some of the divine liturgies ive looked up were dissonant. not that it matters to the message but it sure affects the experience for the worshipers.

This is a very uplifting, inspiring, and powerful Liturgy in every way-- the first reader read very clearly and you could hear the power of God reflected in the witness of his life; The priest's also, very powerful chanting and liturgical voice and commanding presence of Christ. The choir also was in keeping with this beauty and order. I think fair to say, among the best Greek Liturgies ever--

As one born and raised into Roman Catholicism, attended catholic schools, was an altar boy for 6 years and always asking the priests … “hey…how come you can’t get married? If the 12 apostles were the original priests and they all had their families, why can’t you guys get married?” . Also would ask “So, all of a sudden a bishop becomes the pope and now he’s infallible?!!! No man is infallible!!! That doesn’t make sense!” And never getting a straight answer!!! Then seeing in later years all the child molesting scandals, as well as seeing how the Mass was transformed into a rock n roll party, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work abroad in Greece, Eastern Europe, and Israel…through sheer accident I decided to go mass at this local church in Mykonos where I saw for the first time what A REAL MASS should look like, feel like, smell like…I walked into my first Divine Liturgy!!! Ten years later, after much study I realized that the Catholics were the first Protestants, left the true original church in 1054, and I converted to Eastern Orthodoxy!!! The original Christian church! Unchanged Holy Tradition for the last 2000 years! As an American growing up in the west coast, i had no idea this church existed!!! I feel so blessed and lucky to have the one true original Orthodox Church!

Come on brothers if you are Greek please keep tradition and chant ONLY in byzantine music .. how you can feel katanixis with classic music thirds and 5s ... In USA you have a very good byzantine music school at Boston.. sent your psaltes to learn to chant in the original orthodox Way.. I love you but can't stand hearing this and still manage to pray..it's like I'm at opera.. Have a blessed new year all. God be with you All

Greetings from your Roman Catholic cousin. We're not so different. I have worshipped many times in the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. It's very beautiful and traditional.

Greek Orthodox here. Why the use of the organ? Shouldn't the Divine Liturgy be sung a capella?
@Chanellllllllll2326 жыл бұрын
It should but Greek Churches in the US typically have western innovations such as pews and organs incorporated do to nominals and modernists on parish councils (not saying that is the case here). Sadly Greek Orthodox priests in the US don't have authority over their parishes they have to share it with the council.

Joshua19 Is the original garment for the priest the Anteri because I’ve seen many orthodox priests with suits like the western churches and those collars that Catholics wear

I hate the organ here in America they totally water down the faith and priest wearing black button-down shirts sorry one thing in life that doesn't change is the Orthodox church it's been the same since her great-great ancestors. The people who agree to this were never taught proper

Apparently I need to look in here more often. Sorry for the delayed response. The line that we say about Mary at a couple points through the service is as follows: "Remembering our most holy, pure, blessed and glorious Lady, the Theotokos (Mother of God) and Ever-Virgin Mary, together with all the saints, let us commend ourselves, and one another, and all our life to Christ our God." In short, taking the example of all the saints, and especially the Mother of God, the first to receive Christ, we commit ourselves to the same manner of life as they lived.
