the single most beautiful peice of Australian Automotive history right there...most underrated sedan on the planet...they lied so the insurance companies would let it on the road..it was a monstor at heart but a gem to look at..theres only one thought that comes to mind concerning this car...i want one...and that is that.

True, it does bring back memories of really nice Falcons manufactured during the 1970s, XA, XB, XC etc.

Respect to anyone who keeps and cares for original muscle cars. They dont make cars like this anymore, its now all about who can make a piece of plastic accelerate the fastest, but this THIS is what cars are all about!

For your information the Falcon was almost fully Australian by the late 60's. The XR (1966 model) was much more Australian than American, and as the models moved up it kept on coming more and more Australian. And it may not of been the fastest production muscle car, but it was the fastest FOUR-DOOR production car.

No one in their right minds would swap a pristine HO for a Porsche, or anything else for that matter. They're just too rare now.

I'm surprised to see that this car doesn't have the "Bathurst" mags on it. I know they didn't come out until the XA, but Ford GAVE a set to every XY GTHO owner so that the wheels could be used by people still racing XY's. Maybe the original owner sold them??

Reading the comments below shows me so many people have no idea at all. First off, saying they rust. Well people my Neighbour has a XY 71 Fairmont with a 351 and has owned it for the last 25 years, and NO rust at all. And he drives it every weekend. Also people saying oh they handle like crap blah blah, blah. Well those people can not drive, they need cars that drive them instead. I have owned XT, XW, XY, XB, XC, XD, Holden HQ, HZ, Commodore, VB, VC. VL, VS and now VU SS Ute. All of those cars were V8's and drivers cars, and needed skill, which is what made them fun to drive. Any fool can get into a new car and drive fast in a straight line. And I see a lot more new cars in accidents than the old ones. I once bought a Honda Civic Type R, between the VS and the VU, and it was the most boring car I ever drove, so after 6 months I got rid of it. I also had an Mazda MX6 4WS Turbo, between the VL and the VS, and that was quick but boring. It is about the driving experience, not having the car do the work for you.

A Mate of mine has an XA RPO83 sedan (only 120 built) in Wild Violet. Bought it in the early nineties for $5000. It had been painted red, had a blown 9inch & a dud rocker arm. Restored now, he won't let it go for under $250,000

@GR8V8M8 A WRX or Lancer really would blow the doors off my Torana but i'll be grinning from ear to ear as everyone is pointing and looking at my Torana. And you can bet that within minutes a near identical WRX or Lancer would wanna race too. It used to happen all the time when I had the T on the road. I loved that rumble from the exhaust note that would resonate through the whole car and on the highway she was an effortless cruiser that really just ate up the kms. A true tourer.

The Superoo XY GTHO Phase 3 nothing will ever beat it!! Fastest four door fuel aspirated production car! I think the stock standard off the show room floor - 1/4 mile was 15 seconds - anyone know for sure? there are many Ford limited edition cars back then - XC Cobra Coupe - only 400, XY ute 4WD (I think only 219 - correct me if I am wrong) Forget trubo, nitro, fuel injection, you just cant beat the raw power a 351 5.8 litre.

From memory The Phase 3 GTHO won only 1 Bathurst (1971) The following year the mighty HO was cleaned by a 6 cylinder Holden Torana Xu1, 202 cubic inches, triple carbs and a big cam, too easy.

The Ford falcon XY GT is worth atleast $1mil. One sold for $1,250,000 about 8 or 9 years ago to someone in Queensland (It had about 800 miles on the clock). And has since been shrink wrapped. There is only about 3 known that have not been modified, crashed or stolen.

Look how close the tool in the BMW is following it at 2:46!!! The rear bumper alone a GTHO would be worth more than that Teutonic piece of shit!! And this is coming from a Holden Man. All hail the GTHO phase 3. Respect.

The same year that bill borkes car was in unique car book for sale and also the last XE ESP 4.9lt ESP was for sale and also XY GT HO that was used as a race car and the number was 65E on the side of it? the 65E they wanted 120K bill bourkes car was up for 80Ka and the XE was going for 50K?

There are only 2 or 3 Phase 3s left that have not been modified, crashed or stolen. Why the numbers are not certain is because there are only 2 registered, but most beleive another is in storage.

Actually the SS Commodore is a good example - not a bad vehicle but an absolute triumph of marketing.

I dont class a 6 cylinder torana as a car. Holden couldn't compete with the Monaro, so they had to fudge their power to weight ratio's with the XU-1. A mate of mine just purchased a mint XU-1 because he wanted to invest in a peice of Aussie muscle car history, even he admits that the only reason he bought an XU-1 is because he couldn't afford a Falcon GT. Dont get me wrong, I drive a holden and LOVE Monaros...But i would seriously donate my left nut to own a Falcon GT.

It should be interesting - the Holden v8s have the edge at the moment - the SS badge has been hugely popular. I had an XA with a 302 cleveland, but was never a big fan of the 351 - they were ok when warmed up a bit though.

i wouldnt trade that hunk of metal for any car on the market today at least you know you can hit a wall in the old girl and come out alive rather then be surrounded by pieces of plastic crap, i know where there is one sitting in an old farm shed thats sitting up on stands covered in sheets to keep it good and it's unmolested and even has the original tyres it came out the factory with, and it happens to be a one original owner car and it belongs to my grandfather and it's vemilion fire in colour

@GR8V8M8 You know it would have to be that situation like winning millions on lotto but if I did have a lazy million to blow then YES I definitely would. I really don't think it's got to do with being greedy, the muscle cars of the 70s really do hold massive appeal. I've still got my SS Torana and I used to get at least 1 call a week asking to sell it. I don't want to make big bucks from it, I want to drive it again one day. The sound and even the smell of these beasts is unique.

No doubt the xr6t is a top performer, but I am old school and must admit that I would still rather have a V8. I still reckon they are less likely to break if you give them a hard time.
