Can a new window motor really cost $1,000 on a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta? Yes, and find out the reason why. Plus the CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ and HOOVIE look over this well loved Jetta and show how well the car has aged, despite many years of use.

An 05.5 Jetta! This was one of VW's mid year model changes. For the first part of 05 they had the Mk4 style cars then switched to these. This was the first year VW offered the 2.5 5 cylinder motor. The window motor/door control module is a rare item to actually have fail. And you have to make sure it's not only the right part number but also the right "color code" based on the car's VIN number to properly match and be able to talk to everything else on the convenience system data bus (central convenience and electronics module, all the other door modules etc). What IS common, however, is for these early mk5 Jettas to have broken wires in the door harness. VW had an extended warranty for them even because it was so common (but generally ends after the car is 10 years old or older). They have an updated harness that's a fair bit longer that supposedly prevents the harness from bending excessively in the same location, leading to eventual wire breakage. While the extended warranty is long gone, they should still have the updated harness at a more reasonable price than a new door module.

She took it to the dealership five times and they kept telling her it was "normal" for them to leak like that and they told her to keep topping it up with oil which she did, even after the engine blew because of the constant oil leakage they refused to acknowledge that it was a serious problem until she threatened to sue volkswagon canada and they refunded her the value of the car new so she could go buy something better.

The VW dealership wanted approx $1200.00 US dollars to replace my 2008 VW 2.5 Rabbit vacuum pump and gasket.(the same one in this video).. (this is when my new mechanic - a guy who has a shop since the 1970's, and only works on VW's and Audi's was found).... my new mechanic said, "you don't need a new pump"...he fixed for approx. $275.00. Can easily replace spark plugs, air filter myself... AND that coolant reservoir Hoovie mentioned leaked in the middle ... $35.00 to replace.... My new mechanic said that the rust...(the tiny bit right above front tire)...was from the sound deadening foam located up in the fender, he pulled both foam blocks out of both front fenders.... He also said its a good car, and that he could get a new engine if needed for approx $900.00 ....it has approx 170,000 miles. He has a unique way of checking the transmission fluid, however, have to leave it at the garage overnight....has to be cold....then he adds transmission fluid by temperature somehow.

I had an 89 Ford Probe GT have its driver side regulator cable fray and fail. The dealership told me it would be cheapest to buy a used door. Apparently, in order to repair this regulator, it required drilling out all of the spot welds between the inner and outer door panels and then re-welding. They quoted me $600 to do it, and that was back in the mid 90’s.

Yeah, you have to do that any time you replace the battery in the car as well. All that's doing is getting the module to recognize where the auto-down and auto-up should stop. I've got an 07 rabbit and have to deal with that.

Its the door harness not the window motor setup. VW did a extended warranty on it because they knew it was trash but they time limited it and the replacements didn't solve the issue with time. Shouldn't be more than $300 with labor with how cheap the harness shows up online now.

I bought a 3 year old 2004 Passat for my 16 year old years ago. It offered stability control and other safety electronics that were not offered in Japanese and American companies at that time. 80,000 miles, VW dealership checked it out. 3 months later, $3000 worth of sudden repair. Another 6 months go by with another $3000 of repairs. Another 6 months the dash lite up like a Christmas tree. Traded in for a new Honda Accord. VW, the people’s car, Audi expensive parts. VW never again.

Hoovie had his channel for quite some time, he bumped into the Wizard and did some business, and they kinda clicked, as some times that happens. He convinced the Wizard that youtube wasn't a waste of time, now look at the result, the Wizard's channel has gone viral, I wonder why... Together they remind me of the Two Ronnies, but with added mechanical magic... man I need a drink.

A client's 5 year old 2001 Golf Mk lV broke the cable mechanism on *3* (three) electric winders in a year & a half. Driver's door twice & passenger's once. $400 bucks each, coz they included the motor, no alternative. Wound up buying mechanical winders at a Scrapyard ($30 bucks each) & punching a hole in the panels for the handles.

If your buying a USED Jetta or any VW with these vacuum pumps they do need the gasket replaced around 100,000 or 8 years. The gasket cost $9 & it takes 30 minutes to an hour to replace. The 2.5L is one of the most reliable motors around plus you get decent power & decent gas mileage. The next generation Jetta body style is a lot better.

@enp83 You can do it from the top yourself. There's a few videos on YT that shows you how. What ticks me off is some Mechanics will try to charge you for dropping the transmission & go by VW's estimated cost.
