1,000 UK troops test their desert combat skills in the heat of Oman

Soldiers have put their desert combat skills to the test in the hot, dusty conditions of Oman.
Exercise Khanjar Oman gave around 1,000 British Army troops - some of whom had never been to the desert - the chance to pick up new skills and train alongside Omani forces.
Training took place in the Ras Madrakah training area which is around 4,000 sq km - so big, every training area in the UK could fit inside it.

The end result, how the USA army ran like rats in middle of night along with other NATO force showed the sheer wrath and immense war power of them. Also, keep in mind, Afghanistan is also known as graveyard of Empires. So even the mightiest soldiers don't stand a chance.

@@jinlee2617 I never said I supported the west's actions in Afghanistan. It is however simply fact that the Taliban suffered massively at the hands of the west; fighting western military power meant they were outgunned in most engagements and a horrendous amount of Taliban died for what they believe in. The war in Afghanistan was a mistake and a tragedy; but that doesn't change the fact that the Taliban were massacred.

@@JJ-dj6yg Indeed but that’s given when they were fighting with Soviet era weapons to that of high tech American weapons. But everything has a price and Talibans win came at a high price but for American that was worse as they lost more than targeted gain.

@formal frog with an aks-74u That's not remotely true. The British Army wouldn't fight a war alone, given that they are part of NATO that has 3,000,000 military personnel at it's disposal. The British Army are a small, well trained and tech focused miltary that specialised in combined arms, something that would definitely use to easily fight the likes of Russia.

Oman army isn't teaching the British how to operate in the desert, the British have got lots of experience in all weather conditions and environments. You forget half of the empire was in cold or desert conditions. If anything this training was more about being able to communicate with soldiers not from.the British military without actually having to speak their language, just by hand signals. The British military is probably one of the militaries to have experience of warfare in all environments, and all around the world.

This video states that traditionally Artillery usually operates with 6 guns now have 3 to be more mobile. Why not have two mobile teams of 3 guns? trying to bluff us that 3 guns is better than 6. Just like the bluff that the forming of the Ranger Regiment is better than what we had. The Ranger Regiment is made up from getting rid of 1 SCOTS, 2 PWRR, 2 LANCS, and 4 RIFLES. I know I would rather have 4 infantry battalions who were reliable and proven in recent conflicts than one Ranger Regiment. Maths don’t work, this is just dressing up the truth to cover up the continual cuts to our armed forces!

Many Iranian soldiers got killed or injured to save Omani kingdom in 60s and 70s. Iran had highest number of soldiers there and highest casulties. Now, Oman host Brithish forces who are there to confront Iran

They'll train all environments, not many deserts in Canada lol, but lots of open terrain, actually Canada is a very good place to train, but like I say different areas bring different conditions. Can't replicate the desert in Canada. And you can't replicate the Arctic in the desert... why its important to train for all environments, which the British military does well.

Sorry guys the army is boaring since the close of Afghanistan. We had ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, for real on ops in situ training. Having been a SCBC instructor seeing the higher caliber troops come through from what we called the lower grade infantry regiments was a surprise but unfortunately most of that knowledge left as most left due to the boardom and the pass rate of hereford was indeed up with good products coming through. Sometimes using that weapon without a BFA helps more.

Thats where the British are sly....foolish Omani covered by water on most sides, desert with religious site at west must focus on naval exercises. In their multi-lateral naval Ex they engage survey ships & marine divers while US, France,Brits operate their destroyers and minhunters.

Well that's just silly. Russia has a cold climate with loads of snow. If you remember the old version of Spitting Image it was always snowing in Russia even when they were in doors it would be snowing in door. So considering all the snow and ice Britain might be facing, these guys are practicing in some really hot climate. Can't the British army train in Norway or Sweden or Finland? It might be a better climate to prepare.

Russia only has snow in winter because of its landmass its an incredibly hot country in the summer it practically has 2 seasons summer and winter so training in warm weather is very useful if necessary. The Cold can be trained easily enough.

As dumb as this may seem, icy environments are similar to desert environments in some aspects. Little cover, extreme temperatures, difficult for vehicles and large forces to manoeuvre, ect. Obviously not completely the same and training in one doesn't supplement for training in another, but there are similarities and there are are plenty more threats that the UK should prepare for than just Russia, which is onkh covered in snow and ice 30% of the year.
