This was a fun build, even though it didn't go according to plan.
The old AMT 1/1400 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E is a terrible. Their product development/quality at the time was...lacking.
Round 2 has simply re-issued the model with no corrections, and some minor upgrades to the decal sheet.
When I started building this kit I had planned to light it, but I just wasn't excited about it. So I put it aside and when I came back to it I went ahead and built it 'static'. With the logistics of lighting it out of the way I could focus my effort on making sure it was built properly.
It was quite a challenge...as I said the fit is terrible and the secondary hull required so much filling to hide seams and blend panels.
But once that was done it was onto the fun stuff. Decals!
I used HDA Modelworx aztec decal set. It was a lot of work, because there's so many to put on, but they turn a mediocre model into a real beauty.
The AMT Enterprise E certainly isn't the worst ship I've ever built...but it's far from the best.
An experienced modeller would be more than capable of overcoming the kits shortcomings. However, someone new to the hobby may find them untenable, and that's unfortunate.
Too often Round 2 has the opportunity to make improvements to theses old kits and, for whatever reason, chooses to leave them in their original, substandard, state.
