I clearly remember going to the dealer in the fall of 1991 with my brother to get his factory ordered Navy Blue 250 LE Cummins 4x4 Clubcab. The sound that truck made when he fired it up for the first time, hard to believe it was over 30 years ago and man was that thing ever good on fuel.

I got my hands on a 1993 D250 that was from an estate sale. Only had 188,000kms on it (Just under 120,000 Miles). 12v Cummins, 5spd, with all the power options and the AC even still worked. No rust other that a touch of surface rust on the roof and a few dents on the body from the old fella that had it I guess. No tears or anything. It needed some stuff like brake lines and general maintenance as it sat about 10 years but I couldn't ask for a better truck for my first diesel. For over 1 million miles, your first gen looks great! My first car was an '88 Shadow too haha, with the turbo 2.2L and 5spd. Great little sleepers haha, have a Daytona Shelby now.

he took great care of his cummins. respect. seriously. his solution to the notorious overheating issue with the trans and keeping warm in the winter is awesome. only other "light duty" truck i can think of in modern time that can even hit over 1 mil miles these days is the tundra with the 5.7 and 4.7 iforce v8s, but those ain't diesels. a handful of silverados from the early-mid 2000s, plenty of 1990-2000s rams, and also a few fords managed to cross that point. i honestly think its down to dedication and your know-hows and know-whats, as well as preventative maintenance to keep things going for the long term in the vehicle's journey to 1 million.

My grandfather had a 1992 Dodge Ram diesel until he passed in 2018. He only had 400,000 something miles on his but it had been pretty much bullet proof. I will say in the 3-4 dozen times I road in that truck over the years I will say it was never comfortable. Rides rough as hell but it got the job done. My uncle has the truck now and I am pretty sure he did a major overhaul on it in the last couple of years. It's still going strong though. It's a Texas truck so in general it is still rust free.

@@keeprtuned The old family farm was just north of Waco. It was a 4x4 and a manual trans which was always the traditional farm truck back in those days. Sadly, all the farm land minus 10 acres has been sold and that's the property my uncle owns now. He sold all the old farming equipment minus my grandfather's 1979 Case front loader tractor and the a few attachments to till the land and mow the grass. Trucks in general in the 1990s were just built like absolute tanks. My grandfather also had a F-350 Power Stroke that was a 1995 that he used on the farm too and both those trucks pulled trailers full of cattle all over Texas. Good times! Your video brought back some great memories for me.

@@jeffreypinder9398 I'm not exactly sure why they didn't offer them in a short bed. The extended cabs have a longer driveshaft with a center carrier bearing vs the single cabs with a single straight driveshaft.

@@92powerdiesel61 My father had a 1989 D350 dually when they were finally released. The short bed for the diesel had issues because the torque of the drivetrain was trashing the drive shafts at the differential from what the company was saying. He had a flat bed which was custom built shorter near the rear end of the rear axle. He had the same issue with his 1994 so he had to modify the flatbed 1 foot shorter. @@erickriebel4366 they made them good in the 90’s. You don’t see many Chevy diesels from the 90’s anymore but I’m sure they were good back in the day. The 12 valve is one of the best and most reliable out there! You still see 7.3’s ripping around as well.
