Thanks for the video, much appreciated! 1:20 is more like a lifetime goal as PR is 1:24. I put a good mix of workout into the plan but average mileage always been 40-50 pw as injuries have always been around the corner. However alternate hard/easy long run and doing faster then goal HMP workout is something I’ve been doing regularly and hopefully it will result in a new PR soon. Thank you!

Nate. Great content. Have watched many of your vids and find them very informative and insightful. I am UK based and have a half in 4 weeks and 1.20 is my goal. Been doing 50-55 mpw, and key workouts are 10-12 x 20s hills hard/ 5miles at 5.55 pace and alternating hard/easy 16mile long runs. Rest of the days easy. One thing I would add is that if a workout don’t go so well, don’t sweat it. It’s the total training block that’s important. Keep up the gd work! Theo

Just broke 1:30 in my first half using your videos for the past 4 months. Felt really good until 11.5 and I slowed down 15 seconds a mile after a short surge. Hoping to hit 1:27-1:25 on a faster course tapered this Saturday, and I'm still focusing on mile training until May 5th. If I don't hit at least 1:26 I'll give it another go on May 7th. I'll use this and anything else I can find to get down to the 1:20 barrier by October on a bit hillier course.

Thank you for the advice! My half marathon times are hovering between 1hr 21min to 1hr 23min. Crazy thing is I did PR during a marathon. I think I was so locked in qualifying for Boston, I was in the best shape of my life. I'm visualizing myself breaking 1hr 20min this Sept🤞. All your suggestions makes a lot of sense! If I do break sub 1hr 20min Ill let you know!!

When you break 1:20 let me know. You will do it. You have the motivation and hunger for it and that is why it will be achieved. I'm looking forward to hearing about September. Watch those early miles, hydrate well and intake some gels in the race. Taper correctly and from today until September I want you spending time daily seeing 1:19:59 on the clock. You can do this!

Good video. I have started serious running at the age of 36 and completed my first marathon in 2016. Now I'm 39 and I have progressed from a 1:46 half marathon to 1:23:16, marathon to 2:57:30 and I'm looking for alternative training methods to improve further. I've completed 30 marathons and ultra runs (approx 10 per year). Most progression I've made has been with slow aerobic training at fatmax at 60-65% of HRmax. Since the beginning of 2019, I have been experimenting with short anaerobic intervals, faster and shorter runs, double days and also longer runs. I've completed a 24h race recently. My half marathon improvement from 1:28 to 1:23 came as a surprise, since I never train at this pace. Typically marathoners run their fastest race after 7 years. I hope to progress further the next 4-5 years, but I don't have a goal time. I'm an enthusiastic recreational runner. For me the enjoyment and health benefits are more important. But now and then I like to race as fast as I can. Preferably on longer distances where the half marathon is "short". Already started a few weeks ago with Billat 30-30 sessions, faster long runs with tempo blocks and some additional strength training. Once or twice I week, I take my XC MTB and do some race pace intervals on the local singletracks. A sub1:20 half marathon would be a nice sub goal. If I can hit a sub1:17 in the next years, maybe I can get my marathon pb down to sub2:45 and qualify for Berlin. I will try out your advice and train faster.

I ran a lot when I was young. Started to get into it again 3 months ago. I am currently at 1:35, but most of my effort goes in adapting my technique. I havent done interval trainings yet, so there should be some potential left. But priority is getting the right movements to avoid injuries. If that is done, i will try to improve the times.

Great video! I know you often recommend alternating faster paced long runs, wondered if you’re able to elaborate a bit more on what this might look like - progression run? Tempo miles within a 15-20 miler? 15-20 at an elevated heart rate? Around mp / 30 seconds per mile slower than hm pace, or somewhere between marathon pace and easy pace? 15-20 @ MP or faster alternate weeks would seem very taxing, probably more so than a track session closer to 5 min mile pace!
@rundreamachieve
@rundreamachieve 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Oliver, appreciate your support. I wouldn't advise doing a tempo 15-20miles in length as you said that would be very taxing. That bing said, 7-12 miles is legitimate but will take time to get to a point where you can run that fast for that far. Keep me posted on your progress.

Good morning Bowen. It could be a matter of months as you are not that far from the sub 1:20 barrier right now. 5:31 is still a nice chunk of time to drop but it certainly can be done and very well done on that outstanding 1:25:30 time. Keep me updated. I think you can slightly increase your mileage but also focus on the recovery between your hard workouts, mental training is key too so visualize daily seeing you getting across the finish line with a 1:19:59 on the clock.

My problem is when I run much below 5:30 I tend to get injured. I can run 5:50 mile repeats 10x easily. But I don’t know if I have a form issue now (precious 4:11 miler over a decade ago) but I can go do a fast mile and something will hurt. But I can slow down a little and do 2+hr runs or hills fine.
