I'm currently building the Hobbyboss 1/72 version, and I thought that was a very large kit,but this one? Just amazing.

It will be arriving at your local trainyard in March 2024 The sub chassis and train bogies are all ready to go. You roll it to a side track to assemble and paint. Make sure you bring spanners, metric wrenches, and a paint truck.

I bought and built one in 2006. I found that Ambroid liquid glue worked best. It took 3 months, 2 hours a day to build. It wound up being 80" x 13" x 24" lwh.

How many hours per day did you work on it? Any fit issues? Is the gun barrel one piece or two?

I used Tamiya Extra Thin and it bonded the parts well.

@@cs7511it is halves with a seam that will need filling although someone did turn out a metal barrel for it when it was first released.

Super impressive kit, one that has been in the back of my mind for a while! The only downside that keeps me from buying it, is the overall size of the completed build 😢😢 I just don’t have enough room to display it, and the actual display box that they also sell to keep the dust at bay is huge. Winning the Lottery is a different story and would happily upgrade my house for a dedicated display room with all my other builds 😂 Great review video presentation ❤😊

That's my plan too, but in 1/144. I've got the Dora, the Karl and the K5 and a few of the Fujimi tanks for scale. I hope to put them all on one base.

The thing is...if I build this kit, that means there will be about 30 other 1/35 kits I won't have time for. I'll stick with my Leopold and Morser and just dream about this one. I'd be tempted just to display it unbuilt if had attractive artwork on the box, but looks like that's the one thing they skipped. Too bad - the finished pics in the manual looked awesome.

I understand for sure! Yea the box is lacking this time around for sure… the original release at least had a nice box with good looking box art. I wish they had not skipped that this time.

WOW!! What a beast. I\ve recently bought the Hobyboss 1/72 version as a Christmas present to myself. I tried finding the locomotives for it also, but they only available in 1/35 scale. Lucky for me, as I have 2 3D printers, I found just the models I needed for it and have printed them, including the ammo carriages. Can't wait to get started on it.

where did you found the stl for the locomotives and the ammo carriages? The locomotives are avaliable on superhobby website, but they ask 75€ for each... and we need 4! I was thinking on drawing them myself, but if someone already did it, it would save some time

Now you can also get the Trumpeter V188 dieso-electric engines that were only built for Dora (although two of them were used on East German railways til the 70s): you'll need two of them and the Thunder SSYL platform wagon is probs a good base for the ammunition wagon. The powder cartridge wagon need a two axle base which I haven't found a good mod for yet. So for the complete set up you'll need TWICE the base length which should also be curved as that's how they adjusted the bearing of the gun.

@@SquadronMMD i was looking at cheating and get a railroader to help me. Biggest challenge is that it will double/triple the width of the display base especially if you include the locos and wagons. Sometimes the 1/144 version looks like a good idea....!

The problem is that the rail gage under the Dora is wrong. It's too wide, so any Trumpeter kit will drop off the tracks.

@@chrisnichols4962 yes, had already picked up on that. Planning on using the Trumpeter gauge and modifying the Dora boogies accordingly. There is a build on YT that has the necessary numbers. Perfect world, I'd build a slightly curved track to replicate the direction adjustment in the real thing.

Built it 2007. The barrel in the box is incorrect,had to buy a new one for about $125.00 more, plus 2 gallons of dark grey paint. Lost track of how much time and glue it took. A person was talking about he wanted one but was intimidated by the kit. I traded him $1200.00 of kits for it.

I heard that the kit original was produced and you couldn't use regular Tamiya cement, I'm not sure it they changed the plastic or not. Also it has some errors if your a rivet counter. Nigel's has KZfaq videos on how to correct it. Good Luck. I guess you haven't any Cats to go in those boxes.

That is my plan! I am currently clearing enough space in my model room to accommodate this thing's massive size... I have done large scale ships and that took a lot of space... but this thing is a totally different kind of animal!

This si the type of model you goota deaign your model room around it thats massive gotta get me one for my model room been looking for a massive model of any world war type guns or tanks ect and this is what i been looking for. And no meed for airbrush you gotta use a gravery fed automotive paint gun to paint this cause spray paint willale it so ugly

The 1/72 scale version from Hobby Boss is also a very nice kit! I built one of those about 6 years ago... even in 1/72 scale it is HUGE!

I would ditch that plastic display and go with a wood base, with wood ties, steel rails, real spikes, and real rock ballast.

Overkill. Impractical. You need instructions on how to unpack it. Anyone remember that 1/72nd Enterprise hull a few decades back? How many people actually built that Yamato?

No such thing as overkill when it comes to modeling. Seen a lot of huge projects that enthusiasts have made. It all depends on how much you love mode making and how far you want to push it,
