I would take a $150 one over having to mount one on the front or back . I like it in the pod . If it was on the bow , I would probably hit something with it going up and down the snake river . I had one at the stern . I use the rudder many times more than a motor . Having the motor in the pod works great for me . If I go somewhere that I wont be using the motor , noce and easy to pull the pod with the motor out of my lure and put another pod in and ready to go . I have been running my setup for 3 years now . Its perfect for me . and love having a motor on my lure . I wish O had added it back when I bought the lure in 2016 .

I feel like an affixed trolling motor with an relocated handle control and rudder will solve about 80 percent of the issues. Mount it to a bracket that lifts and all the problems will be solved tbh

Why would I wanna Fish a large body of water in a kayak and take take unessary risks? To each his own I suppose!

I'm about to make the move to add a rear mounted, pretty expensive (perhaps 3hp equiv) motor to my kayak to get me to the fishing spot quicker. I have my pedal drive for fishing movement - I want a 6 to 7mph speed to get me there. I have considered getting one of the 70 or 80 pound used trolling motors. I'm curious as to the actual power levels of typical trolling motors rated by pounds of thrust. I see contradictory info and I also wonder if, say a 71 pound trolling motor can be run at full speed for an hour to get to the spot. Any ideas here? I'm looking at Newport Vessels and Torqeedo offerings - not cheap!

I have the best solution, stop being lazy and do human power. My pedal drive does everything a trolling motor does, almost as fast, never have to worry about batteries and charging, and "spot lock" is easy peasy. Seriously, unless you are fishing huge reservoirs and need to cover miles of distance there is no need for a wasting money on a trolling motor
