Just had this pop up in my feed, even though it’s a vintage build. Oddly enough I too switched from spraying Vallejo to Tamiya/Gunze paints. I like the weathering and finish on this. And enjoyed the music in between your history narrative.

This is the second video of yours I've seen. Just came across your channel last night. I've been using Vallejo paint for the past two years, before that I only ever used Testors & Model Master and a few Tamiyas. I switched to Vallejo mostly because I decided to go all acrylic and the price is reasonable and I saw a lot of good reviews. Since then, now that I'm fully invested have come to grips with the fact that their primer sucks. I to had issues with the paint pealing off with tape. But, if you use Stynylrez primer, it sticks to styrene & resin very well and the Vallejo paint adheres to it much better. Also I use the standard and Panzer Aces Vallejo thinned 50% with my own thinner (60% blue windshield washer fluid, 35% distilled water, 5% 71% ISO and 5-10 drops glycol & 30-50 drops glycerin). Honestly I thought I messed up using the ISO but after mixing a batch without it because it seemed like the paint got real spotty/flakey (flakes of pigment) I noticed a lot orange peel and more flakes. So I went back to my original mix but cut down to 50% paint to thinner as a posed to 75% thinner to paint. Now it shoots beautifully and dries slow enough to self level but be dry to the touch in 10 minutes or less.

Great build! I will probably catch some flak for saying it; but, I am NOT a fan of Vallejo paints either. I have been modeling over 50 years, and; I had rather use almost any paint other than Vallejo. I'd almost rather use Testor's enamel in the 1/4 ounce bottle. Right now, I'm using Tamiya, Army Painter brand and AK Interactive. Rarely, Vallejo will occasionally stick to it's own brand of primer. But, not often enough to warrant the trouble. Your P-47 looks great and I compliment you overcoming the trouble you had with the Vallejo. Keep up the good work. This hobby will last you a lifetime.

Very good build and excellent paint job on a very nice kit. The "Razorback" is pretty much my favorite T'Bolt, apart from the VLR P-47N's in the Pacific. One very small point (not a criticism, but a pointer for future builds) The cuffs on the base of the propeller blades (Just outboard of the Hub) were not metal beneath the black paint. Like the Cuffs on the P-51 propellers they are blocks of solid rubber, pushed onto each blade from the base and molded to fit exactly in the correct place. (Post war many Mustangs had them removed as they did wear badly and many Korean War Mustangs had Cuff-less Hamilton Standard Propellers. The Aero Products Propellers did not have cuffs but a broader chord.) HTH, Brett

Tamiya P-47 is one of the most enjoyable kits that I have built. Probably one of the better engineered kits.

The history lesson is exceptional thanks, the music is cool. John Williams really did borrow a lot from his predecessors lol. Listen to Dvorak Symphony number 9, 4th movement and you'll agree. You really should have played "Greensleeves" BTW hehe

Awesome! I love the US Army Airforce Olive Drab and Neutral Grey! My Hasegawa 1/48 Razorback. I overcame the Step at wing joint. Some of my best putty and seam work ever. I used HWS Wet Transfer Stencils, and I love those! For me, they they performed flawlessly! But this build here, as always on this video site is outstanding. and builder completes all weathering etc.. I still have tendency to not really finish up on all those details. and they do matter. But I am improving. I never know what paints are compatible when weathering. My T Bolt is painted with Valeho water based, and can you use oil washes over that etc.?

I loved the music.

Actually the 47 was escorting the Bombers to Bremen by Nov. '43. The 56th F.G. in an intense dogfight with the Luftwaffe had the highest victory tally for any USAAF group and the tally was not surpassed until after D-Day, and even that took the combination of 2 F.G.'s.Once the R-2800 was fitted with the "Paddle blade prop", Asymmetrical, Symmetrical, and Hamilton Standard 13' 3"the 47's mauled anything in its path. Range was conquered by fuel tanks, they could carry three ext. tanks. Also 47's were the first USAAF fighter over Berlin, the 51's got lost due to thunderstorms{The men who killed the Luftwaffe}. The "M" version was faster than the 51{only used by 56th F.G.} and after the 47D-30 could easily fly faster than the 51's. The "N" version had more range, could carry more weapons, and could fly faster than the 51, even without ext.tanks. Of course the "N" was only used in the PTO. Gen. Lemay , once given command of 8th AF after WWII was over, kept and acquired as many 47's as he could get his hands on, converted them all to D-40's and shed the 51's. Gen. Lemay knew of the 51's weaknesses { poor load weight, low hours for the Merlins and wing structure fatigue} so he kicked them out of Europe. The ROKAF did fly 47's during the Korean war. {2 F.G.'s} To me, 51's were late arrivers to WWII, strength in #'s weren't achieved until after D-Day. Even Gen. Kempner {8th AF Fighter commander WWII} flew a 47. He even stated that the 47's broke the back of the Luftwaffe, so that should sum it up. The P-47 will probably never get it's due recognition and fame, the USAAF doesn't even like the A-10! {Thunderbolt II} Also a Republic build, GO FIGURE! But anywho, Nice build, I do love the Tamiya P-47 kit, I've built 30 so far with another 15 to go. I just picked up the Loon mod for the "C" version, { Tamiya kit only ,correct cowling, non-bulging keel} I wish Tamiya would produce an "N" version. Even better a 1/32nd kit! Trumpeters are ok, decent detail, all internal piping for turbo supercharger, excellent gun bays, and a very good R-2800. But, the tires are way out of scale and after the Razorback and early D-25 the pits are all incorrect{I've built 2, have 10 to go}. Hasegawa, well just leave that kit on the shelf, unless you want to donate your money to aftermarket companies, I've built 3, won't build another. Excellent build and brilliant video. I note your comment on Vellejo paints. I haven't had adhesion problems but I do find they are fragile paints, easily rubbed off when handling the model during painting. I now use Tamiya paints but if I want to spray the paint I tend to thin the whole bottle, so I often buy two, one for brushing and one to be thinned for spraying. My main issue is finding a good acrylic gloss varnish/lacquer. I find Tamiya X-22 not very gloss and I still have difficulty with some decals sticking and oil washes not wiping off nicely. Any tips??.

My father was a crew chief with the 356 FG in England. The group started with P-47s and transitioned to P-51s. He loved the Thunderbolt and detested the Mustang. He said he strapped one too many pilots into P-51s that never made it back, while the Jug could sustain massive damage and return. He also said try to find a picture of a Mustang with battle damage. You won't.

One small detail to take in mind, the propeller as with the P-51 Hamilton Standard, had plastic cuffs at the base of the blades. This do not chip metallic, so metal colored weather should not cover them.

RE: Weathering- LESS IS MORE!!! Take it easy on the weathering- Armor and Military ground vehicles become filthy; Airplanes merely get dirty in extreme environments. Many airplanes, even during WWII and Korea were "fussed over" more than people realize. For example, many of the P-47s, P-51s and P-38s in USAAF Fighter Groups in Europe, such as the 4th, 56th, 78th and 357th (to name but a few) received WAX-JOBS, in order to get every ounce of speed possible...

Nice smooth work ;) I have 2 questions: 1. On 0:30 you paint white "prelight substrate" for some color variations on finish. But I don't see this color variations :( Why? It's because something with my eyes? )) Or because camera doesn't register this variations? Or because substrate fully overlapped by next paint coats? 2. When you improves engine detalization on 12:30, you use super glue, as I guess. And then some spray. What is this spray? It's some kind of drying booster for super glue?

I always enjoy your build videos. What kind of wire did you use on the engine? I’ve tried using wire before, but it wasn’t pliable, making it very difficult to bend into shape.

Great Job and Video. Sir, please excuse my eye for perfection but war bird tail daggers almost never have the elevator in a neutral position. This is 1. due to the control stick being forward in order to climb out of cockpit, 2. the elevator was only in balance when it had air flowing over it. 3. no gusset lock except for rapping seat-belt around stick in full up position.

Oh, the p-47D did more than match the 109s and 190s.. ;) They were much faster than either 1943 and beyond. Only the 190Ds had any real chance to compete at altitude.. Range was not bad when they were allowed drop tanks. In fact, P-47s could fly to Berlin and would have been able to go all the way on the Schweinfurt raids - if they had been given the drop tanks that existed... But they were not. Republic build P-47s did not have Interior Green but (probably) Dull Dark Green. Curtiss built ones DID have the IG however. It looks good though, your build. :)
