My brother served as ground crew propulsion in the RAF. He told me that if war should be declared one of the first jobs was to grab a tin of green paint and paint over the horizontal yellow stripe around their Land Rovers. Mad but true.

Hi Steve and thanks for watching & commenting. I guess it was to make them less distinguishable from the air? I love stories like that.

I served in the RAF for 22 years, I have fond memories of bombing around in land rovers but ours were painted in camouflage colours. I remember the station landy’s painted in the scheme you’re doing. Looking forward to following this build even now. 👍👏👏

Hi Aus, that is amazing...So jealous...and you have my upmost respect mate. I spent a lot of time on camp at various RAF bases when I was in the ATC...and loved every minute. The crazy thing is, I got to drive an RAF Blue Landy when I was 14 years of age...I wouldn't know how to start one now🤣 I wanted to do something a little different and I know the number plate refers to a green one, but hey! "Per ardua ad astra" Thanks for watching and supporting my channel it means a lot. Have a great weekend.

Hi Tony. Tony does a good job of researching everything. It's easy to understand that you can adjust the behavior during driving by changing the number of springs, and I get a sense of Tony's kind personality. Please continue to tell me more about it. thank you.

Hi and warm greetings to you Ritsuo Tsujimoto. Thank you for your very kind words. I do try and explain my thought process during the build and I now feel like I am talking to good friends when I talk on camera...The support I have been given by followers such as your self is very humbling indeed and I hope that I continue to inform and entertain while building these amazing kits. Thank you also for your continued support.

Hi Tony, great video, and not tedious at all, it's really good to see what goes into the kits and lets anybody who's thinking of buying one know what to expect before they part with cash, brilliant job mate.

You had me and my brother Dale hunting through my dad's old photos. My father, John was an M.P in the RAF with Fighter Command as it was then, and served both here and overseas in the late fifties & early sixties. We were sure there were photos of him in Land Rovers and we were right. During his posting in Aden, in late 1961 to 62 there are a plethora of pictures with him in a number of series 1 Landys. Although I can't confirm the colours, as they are B&W pics. None of them have any identification markings, so I'm not sure as to whether they were borrowed or belonged to the RAF. I think I remember him saying that his qualification drive was in a Land Rover for his driving licence, was to take a drive up the runway and back, and with a "well done, here's your license" kind of deal! I have a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Diploma dated 1964 - noting 4127374 CPL Futter, J. RAF Marham, has been awarded a diploma for the driver of a mechanically propelled vehicle to be free from any blameworthy accidents whilst driving a vehicle during that year... So I guess he must have driven them fairly carefully 😀 This will mean from now on in your build I'll be thinking of my late father with the fun he must of had in those wonderful vehicles.

Good morning Martin and apologies for delay in responding, I have been away over the weekend, so sadly no 'workshop' for me🥲. What a lovely story...I must admit it brought a small tear to me. I seem to recall the ground engineer that took me for a spin and let me drive the Landie said something similar about passing a test back in the day. I will try and complete the build to a standard that does not disappoint and may also give you and your brother a shout out...if that would be ok? Thanks again for all of your amazing support and have a great week Martin. PS...please also pass my regards on to Dale.

What you do on these builds is very important. I saw a video yesterday from a gentleman who appeared to live over in your part of the world, and he should have waited to see this video! He spent about one hour taking apart his rear axle because he glued the bearings in the before installing the axles and could not get the long one in. So what you do may seem boring and unnecessary to some is very useful. Keep up the good work!

Hi David and apologies for delay in responding, I have been away over the weekend. That is very kind of you to say. I have learned over the past three builds that these kits have to be handled with due diligence, read through and re-read the instructions...dry fit parts together first and try and build the kit in your head at each stage to prevent going off path.... I still make mistakes as we all do, but less and less as I continue to learn and develop my knowledge on these amazing kits. Thank you for your amazing continued support.

Looking sharp, Tony. Nice paint work. Perhaps you could use black permanent marker on the sliding portion of the shock (inner), it would allow it to be the correct color while not adding as much thickness as spraying paint would, which inhibits the movement. I doubt where it's located you'd notice the difference.
@tonys_workshop
@tonys_workshop 20 күн бұрын
Thank you. I am pleased how its starting to look. I think the black on the axles looks good. You are ahead of me....In the next video, I do paint the shock absorbers, but not black😀, and I use a permanent marker in the areas where the shock needs to slide...it looks like grease. I am happy with how that turned out. Video up next week. Have a great weekend and thanks for your continued support.

Good afternoon, Tony Thank you for sharing all your builds, which I have watched everyone. In regards to the diff would your recommend some sort of gasket as I assume moisture may enter if the vehicle goes in some water

Hi Paul and thank you for watching and supporting me. Apologies for delay in responding, I have been away over the weekend. Good point on the gaskets and thank you for raising this. You are not the only one to suggest this, however nothing is allowed for in the kit, but it is something I will look into. Hope you continue to watch and follow my channel...lots more in the pipeline.

Great vid Tony. I wonder, would you be able to drive the vehicle through a water feature? I ask because i didn’t see you install any gasket or o-ring material on the axles to keep the water out of them.
@tonys_workshop
@tonys_workshop 20 күн бұрын
Thank you. You know..that is an excellent question. There is nothing in the kit to provide for that and lets face it we all want to drive these models through through terrain and obstacles. There is a lot of grease on the diffs, so this would help, but how to stop water ingress into the housing and through the hubs is something I may have to look into. Thanks for your continued support. Have a great weekend.

Really enjoying your build of this great kit. Just a couple of questions, you said you added the weld beads to the chassis, great idea. Did you make them yourself or was it a aftermarket item? 2nd question, do you think that the axels have enough meat on them to round off to add a better scale look. Keep up the good work & I love your take on the colour. ATB Tim
@tonys_workshop
@tonys_workshop 20 күн бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching and commenting. I use Milliput Epoxy Putty to form the welds. I have done previous welding videos on the Hetzer and M26 Pershing tanks if you want to see how I achieve this. I see your point in the axles, but I don’t think there is and also the flat side is used to insert the threaded 20mm grub screws which retain the springs. Hope this answers your questions and also hope you continue to follow this build.
