This is a perfect example of the genre, the minimalism and the pacing of the evolving timbre, it's a "banger" as the kids say. Well done.

I boxed mine up thinking I would sell it but I never got around to it. I think I'll unbox it. It will be like having a new drum machine 😄I really like the RD-6, just that I'm short of space.

Thanks for posting this,it gives me a lot of ideas! I have both, as well as the Donner B-1 Bass synth, just recently figured out where to set them all up in my little, very crowded house, lol! My question is, which do you sync to which? The RD6 to the TD3, or vice versa? Also, are there situations when, depending on what you are working on, you might want to reverse that? Thanks!
@electro-soma5 ай бұрын
Hi Larry - The conventional wisdom is to have the drum machine as the master but with the TD-3 and RD-6 it doesn't really matter which is which. If you're using sync rather than MIDI then you have no option but to have the RD-6 as the master because the TD-3 only has sync in. I quite like the B-1. Sounds good.
@larry17545 ай бұрын
@@electro-somaThank you for your reply! I will use sync, don't want to mess with midi, lol. And it really helps me to start getting a feel for making this music, seeing you use the same TD-3 pattern all the way through, just tweaking knobs as the feeling moves you. You actually use the RD-6 for sonic embellishments, using those percussion sounds to change moods and stuff. Now I can see how important that RD-6 is to making a cohesive track, thanks!!!
@electro-soma5 ай бұрын
@@larry1754 Glad it helped Larry. MIDI can seem a bit daunting at first. If you get more gear learning the basics of how MIDI works is a must really!

Cheers. Yes the TB-303/TD-3 is a pain to program but actually very quick when you get the hang of it. I just hammer buttons in the hope something good comes out. Plenty of well known artists from the 80s used this tried and tested technique so I don't feel too bad about it!

@electro-soma2 жыл бұрын
Cheers. Yes it's excellent if you're wanting an experience close to a TB303 in terms of sequencing and sound. Like the original, the sequencer isn't for everyone and can take some getting used to. I performed the 'rubber mod' on mine recently which involved a little soldering. The TD-3 is very moddable if that's your thing.

@electro-soma11 ай бұрын
Hi Franky - Cheers. Not too long really. I only started playing around with synths at the age of 48. I know very little music theory. I try and learn but it rarely sinks in! I think it's a good combo to start with. Enjoy your TD-3 and RD-6. I actually sold my RD-6 as it just wasn't getting enough use. I really liked it though. It's very hands on. I still use the TD-3.

Hi - I have no music theory. I really just play around and for the most part it doesn't sound particularly good! I enjoy it which is the main thing. Have you tried a groovebox like the Novation Circuit? An excellent bit of kit for someone new to hardware.

This setup is good to go. Just hook the gear on some delay and its going to sound nice. I myself like something like drums+mono+chords/pads. The Volca Beats, Bass and FM are an very nice point to start

@electro-soma Жыл бұрын
Hi - I use the RD-6 for drums. Have I misunderstood your question?
@squintygreeneyes Жыл бұрын
@@electro-soma yah, i guess a better question for you would be that if you could only get one other piece of hardware to go with the td-3, would it be the rd-6 or maybe a sampler? i also have an ipad so im not sure if a sampler is maybe necessary and maybe a drum machine like the rd-6 would be better? thanks a subbed!
@electro-soma Жыл бұрын
@@squintygreeneyes Thanks. The RD-6 is great for that TR-606 vibe but perhaps a bit limited for some people. I think it's really good though and one of the cheapest drum machines available. I don't have a sampler and have never used one but I backed Sonicware's Smpltrek and it should be here next month.
