I'm a recent medical school graduate, and a lot of your videos are super relevant for young physicians (residents or attendings) as well. It sucks that dental and medical school don't emphasize personal finance. Thank you for filling in the gaps!

Hey Joel I really like your videos I am a dental student currently in my D3 year at Marquette Dental School and I was wondering if you could make a video about how long it took you to pay off your loans and how you did it and good options for other dental students with 400k + student loans

very helpful video Joel! You brought a very important point about interest on loan vs interest with investing. I like Dave Ramsey and all but your video really gave more insight about this very tough situation for dental students nowadays!

Haven't watched the video This is what I'm currently thinking (before watching) Try and minimize the debt in the first place Pay your debt asap and start investing once you finish returning it

I think investing is super important and have been starting to more and more. Initially, it was one of the ways that I was looking to help pay off/offset interest on the debt I would have. However, I also was extremely lucky and received one of the military scholarships which I calculated including utilizing the post 9-11 GI bill will be able to graduate with no debt, and between 70-90k cash post-tax. If you are worried about debt there are tons of different programs you can look into that can lead to them being forgiven or scholarships that cover school costs in full. For me, the military made sense with all the benefits I get for being in the military, job security, health insurance, etc... I do have to serve as a dentist for me in the Navy for 4 years which in terms of how long I plan on practicing is nothing. Plus that is 4 years where I can continue to practice and further developed my skills and speed as a dentist so If I do enter private practice I already know how many patients I can expect to see a day and how long to book for different appointments. I know some people who went the working in a rural route which from what I have seen also tends to be 3-4 years but that pays off all your debt as well. But I don't think being scared of debt should stop you from going to dental school. As Joel has shown in a few other videos you will be able to make a good amount and be able to pay it off just a matter of how long it takes.

Hi I’m a new person who came to watch your videos. I just finished high school and don’t know what I want to do besides becoming a dentist. But I don’t know what classes or what steps to take in college or University because I don’t want to waste money or time on something that is not helpful for this career. I don’t have money to waste😅tbh. Mind telling me what exactly am I supposed to major in or what am I supposed to do, like I am literally dying. I don’t know if this is a dumb question... I just wanna make the right choices. Help plz

9:17 wait why would telling your patient what treatment plan they should do make you a bad dentist? Wouldn't they be looking for your advice? That seems counterintuitive
@jmey
@jmey 3 жыл бұрын
you aren't them and can't know what's best for them holistically. a common approach to handling this is to offer what you would recommend to a family member, but still let the patient decide for themselves what is best for them

Crypto is the place to invest now. The stock market (especially the Nasdaq) has been taking some pretty hard hits recently. Although crypto is more volatile, the technology that back them (blockchain, proof of stake, etc) are the future of the computing world. Overall, you’ll make a net positive return over time.

@jmey
@jmey 2 жыл бұрын
@@corycox8033 we just objectively present the options, the pros and cons. I don't tell a patient which treatment plan is best for them, bc there's more that goes into a tx plan decision beyond just what is optimal for their oral health
