I've been researching for years how to pick a lock (long story about how little me lost a key to dad's footlocker) and today (thanks to this video and many others) I have after over 8 years finally gotten it open

@@lachie5427 I was 8 when I lost the key. It was a few old toys from my dad's childhood and some toys I didn't want my nieces playing with. The toys that were my dad's were alphabet train tracks and one of his first teddy bears, and the toys I locked away from my nieces were a toy phone one niece broke, a rubber ducky, and a water gun

Solid advice! When I first got into picking as a teenager, I made many a tension wrench out of Uni ball clips! LOL! Another great DIY pick can be made from the arm of a pair of thin framed metal glasses or sunglasses. Great use for that broken pair you have in a drawer somewhere! Actually one of my favorite picks that I have still was made from an eyeglasses frame arm! Just my two cents! And thanks for all of the excellent videos, keep up the great work🤘👁🤘

Just like you said at the end, if you get good with your crappy homemade pick set so that most pad locks and all the door locks around your house are becoming pretty easy, then a real set of decent picks will make it much easier and you'll be even better at it. They're shaped better and have much better feel so you don't spend so much time looking for the pins

Now that I finally have some experience picking locks, I'll have to try picking with a paperclip and a Bobby pin lol Funny thing. I always figured you used Bobby pins like a combined pick/rake lol. I'll have to try those pen cap tensioners. Pretty nifty!

Every now and again, to spice things up, I enjoy putzing about with DIY improvised tools. Picking through a carabiner of "quality" padlocks with my good stuff is awesome, but a beer can shim or paperclip pick fashioned on the spot defeating a "lesser" lock also has value....
@pullt3 жыл бұрын
@@amihirata yeah...is fun to play MacGyver from time to time... The challenge of Green Belt or Black Belt opens is cool and all, but when you distill the essence of the hobby down, what it really is about comes down to is the enjoyment of experiencing your tactile feel. Defeating a subpar lock with a "coat hanger and duct tape" so to speak can easily be as enjoyable as SPPing a tough bitted 410 LOTO with top of the line tools....

Ah, geez. Didn’t have any bobby-pins or pens that even came close. But, what I did have was some pieces of stainless that I saved from old wiper blades. Holy smokes! I made a tension tool and a pick. First, I tried a Master Model 1 on my bench. After adjusting the pick a couple of times with my file it took less than 30 seconds. The lock I needed to unlock was even quicker! Thanks, a lot!

Here's a good way to not get nice/expensive ass pens to use for tension wrenches: Uni-Ball Vision. You get four to a pack for like $5, and the plastic on top of the caps is easy to pop back on and off, not to mention the metal clip comes out with some pressure from the bottom of the clip

have been trying to pick a lock for a day now and it will not open, it's a 30 mm from ACE and I have been working with paper chips and a pen and noting to show for it. It be the tension bar I made is wrong or it may be me that I'm new to lockpicking.

Ha thats funny thats exactly what I use in a pinch & have used for over 10 years now... when I lock my self out of my room, house or wherever .. I litterly keep Bobby pins & pens around the house, inside my wallet & inside a Bug out bag specially for that reason just due to the fact that they work so well A bobby pin for a pick & a metal pen pocket - clip off a pen for a tension wrench. But you don't need to cut the plastic beed off the end of the Bobby pin... just grab a lighter & heat up the end a bit , grab a rag , your shirt or W/e then wipe it off. I've found cutting it will often times create a burr that gets hung up on pins inside the lock 🔐 that you then need to sand off or rub against concrete in order to get rid of... and you really don't need to bend the end , just leave it flat it works better & less hassle again getting hung up on pins inside the lock Just a helpful tip. I actually prefer using a Bobby pin & pocket - clip then I do a legitimate lock pick a majority of the time.

So I'm locked out of my house, and the back door is the only door without a heavy duty lock (90% of the door is a sheet of glass, not much point in putting an expensive and difficult to pick lock on the door since they'd just shatter it) and I happen to have a Walgreens and a grocery store very close by. I was, at first, going to use some of the steel inside an old wiper blade but I realized it's in the back of my car, and the keys to that are with my house keys; in the house. So I'm going to pick up a v7 and some bobby pins and give this a go. Wish me luck!

I was able to make a basic rake from a bobby pin and the V7 was a perfect tension wrench. Took me about 5 minutes to make the tools with the multitool I keep on my belt (though I should note that I did use the multitool file to give the bobby pin a better rake profile)
