I've always wanted to film one of those minimalistic "aEsthetiC" videos, and when I had the morning off yesterday, I took the opportunity and ran with it. I thought you guys would enjoy a bit of the behind-the-scenes process of how I translate and interpret (yes, it does take more than an hour to sub one interview, this is proof). if you're looking for a song, I've labelled each track in the pinned comment. oh that's right, I guess you could technically use this as a nct/wayv piano study playlist :)
grab your supplies, and let's get some work done!

I didn't hide any captions amidst the hour of typing, so if you would like to read a little about my process, I've included some information in the 5 minutes after each video chapter timestamp --- there's like, one exception, as captions are scattered within the 8 minutes of designing a thumbnail.

if you're wondering which interview I was subbing, it's the 210622 WayV KUN & XIAOJUN Big磅来了 Interview for Back To You conducted by 腾讯 Tencent Entertainment, you know, the one with dorm shenanigans and Kun dying inside while attempting to sing "cutely." I've linked it in the info cards and here as well: • [ENG] 210622 WayV KUN ...

faith, you definitely don't need to justify your devices and what you use because you are known as a broke student. The idea that people in less fortunate situations need to have practically nothing needs to go, especially when people use it to justify classism. Thank you for what you do for us with subtitling!!

hi faith, random question, which languages would you like to learn in the future?
@-faith
@-faith 3 жыл бұрын
I would like to travel to a Spanish-speaking country and truly become fluent outside of the textbook sense :) and probably get better at Korean and Japanese --- my skills are still horrendous, believe me, I've been procrastinating so much. also pick up French again- it's embarrassing I even call myself Canadian if I can only say bonjour and count to 23, haha. as for any languages I haven't studied at all, I would love to learn Arabic one day. the writing aspect scares me tho

As a fellow perfectionist, I noticed you often make grammatical and punctuation errors. It irks me no end. But then again, I notice everyone's mistakes.
@-faith
@-faith 3 жыл бұрын
If you’re talking about the stylistic choice to omit full stops and commas, you would be correct: I do make punctuation “errors.” I tend to find formal writing constricting in an informal setting. Tone is conveyed differently in text; therefore, I *choose* to type differently in an attempt to refrain from coming across as cold or pretentious. I’ve worked as an editor for multiple publications - I also grew up without many opportunities to learn about the colloquial use of the English language. For the longest time, I was the same as you. Any error, intentional or not, irritated me, and I would go out of my way to correct people. What I’ve learned over the years, however, was that no human being likes to be corrected. Technically, I was “correct,” but I also made the atmosphere extremely tense and uncomfortable for many people. In the end, it’s all dependent on the setting. I hold the belief of writing formally in research papers and journalistic articles, but that’s about it. If it irks you that I type like this and don’t use commas after dependent clauses as well as keeping initial letters lowercase in the start of sentences then you are free to have your own perspective~ but I must say that this isn’t a mindset very fitting for youtube comment sections :) Also, I would like to point out that you typed “irks me no end” instead of “irks me *to* no end.” Believe me when I say that copy editors notice everyone’s mistakes - including yours.
@pipw8565
@pipw8565 3 жыл бұрын
@@-faith I'm talking about actual errors. For example, "do you notice the clock". It should be "did you notice".
@-faith
@-faith 3 жыл бұрын
@@pipw8565 “do you notice the clock?” is grammatically accurate as the clock is still in frame. the usage of “do” in the present tense is fitting in that context. if the caption showed after the clip with a clock, then it would be “did” and “did” only.
@mokotoathedog
@mokotoathedog 3 жыл бұрын
@@-faith Actually, "did you notice" is used. “Did you notice?” is the interrogative past-tense form. We normally use this form of the question when asking someone about a brief, short-term, or one-time action, occurrence, or activity that took place right before the moment the question is asked, or at least not very long before that moment.
@-faith
@-faith 3 жыл бұрын
@@mokotoathedog yes, the interrogative past-tense can also be used, but “do you notice” is still grammatically correct. there is a slight difference in meaning, as “notice” in the present tense indicates you are noticing something now that you didn’t before. if I am asking someone if they notice something instead of if **they’ve noticed** something, I am pointing it out to them - frankly, I did not expect them to have noticed beforehand.
