Two of the nation's best teams, Mater Dei and Sierra Canyon played earlier in the season in the West Coast Jamboree finals. Mater Dei sneaked away with a one point victory to claim the trophy. This time around at Sierra Canyon was just as close. Mater Dei had a big lead early on, up 20-9 after the first and 33-20 at halftime. But the Trailblazers clawed their way back in the second half and made this one into an instant classic. Sierra Canyon is led by two D1-bound Filipino American studs, Vanessa De Jesus and Alexis Mark.

A lot of people are asking about the last shot. It was counted but it was a two-pointer and Sierra Canyon was down by three, so they ended up losing by one in overtime. It wasn't a charge as some of you are saying, that motion by the ref is signaling that the basket counted. An amazing game nonetheless!

Vanessa is identified as Fil-am because she was born in USA. Yes she is full filipino blood but she’s an american citizen as well. 🙌🏽

Ah, do you know the meaning of Fil-Am? Fil-Am does not stand only for halves. Just like Chinese-Malay, which can mean Chinese ancestry who grew up and have Malaysian citizenship. Keep your definition to your own. But to the rest of the world, citizenship means a lot. Lots of countries are populated by different ancestries, their citizenship is who they are. Bostonians of Irish descent, Mexicans in Texas, native Americans, African-Americans, Americans of English ancestry, and other loads of ancestries are identified as Americans by citizenship, not by their ancestry. The Philippines is different in how society works in other parts of the world. Recognize that and respect it the way it is.
