I've built and seen a lot of production machines in my life and this is pretty impressive, unless you've ever built production equipment you cannot imagine the difficulties encountered along the way. It takes years to develop machines like this with each new model a bit better than the one before, a lot of blood, sweat and tears together with a lot of sleepless nights go into making kit like this.

Amazing the amount of processes to make the humble ball bearing. I've been a mechanic all my life and never have I thought just taken for granted the exactness of a bearing. Excellent.

I spent 30 years working on the machines from the 9:20 point until the end. Those are the machines that do the final assembly of the finished ball bearings.
@diyguitarsandmore4538
@diyguitarsandmore4538 6 жыл бұрын
Very very interesting clip. Unfortunally the composition of the final state of the bearing is not mentioned. There are a lot of ball gauge size to compensate different inner and outer ring groove diameters in order to get the right radial and/or axial clearance of the bearing. The machine to pair the rings with the right size of the balls is very interesting and crucial for the process.

my father had for 40 yars a ball bearing shop,,,and i continued in the shop for eight years more,,the sttel balls has many grades of precision ,,usuaaly use numbers ::balls grade 1000 grade 500,,grade 200 grade 100 ,,,,,50,,,20,,,10 ......5 1 0,5 the grade indicates the sphericity wrong at more grade,,,worst thr sphericity,,,the measure is in microinches,,,grade 1000=1000 microinches=0,0254mm of sphericity,,,this measure is made in three different points,,,this balls are used for toys ,,,not for bearings,,,,for bearings standard,,,used grade 50 or less and for precision bearings,,,grade 10(10 microinch)=0,000254mmsphericity...and for precision machines,,,grade 1(1microinch)=0,oooo254mm sphericity. Another theme is the tolerance,,,not all the balls finish with the same measure. for example in grade 50(0,001mm spericithy) we can find a ball with+- 0,001mm difference with other. this tolrtance are printed in the box or package.I know all the proccess,and my father didnt buy all the machines because Argentine entered in default and the economy was very bad.,,,and he died in 1984.

Flashing.....the burrs are removed by pressure or grinding/abrasion or cutting.? The description is too simplistic. Can you also explain in more details,how the bearings are made......how the balls are forced between 2 concentric races with grove, without deforming the balls. And the tolerances on the clearance of the bearing balls vs the groove inside the race.
