I'm a huge fan of their top 10 videos like this. Two mics, 5 people, and an entire truckload of fun! I mean, I know we all notice how much fun they all have working together in the videos they do, how can we miss it? But, to sit here and see them "live" and see just how much fun they're actually having in the moment, how much they enjoy playing off of one another, and to see their reactions to one another "in the moment" is amazing. One of the things I've been enjoying about your reactions, David, is your commentary of the entirety of the performance: voice, visuals, arrangement. There are a few who will take small moments of each and point out things. You, on the other hand, do that for almost the entire thing. I appreciate, too, the way you give us resources to continue to delve into the music you're reviewing. It makes what you do unique and, IMO, very special. Another wonderful video, another really great time hearing what you think of the performance. Thank you for all the hard work, even when you might not be feeling the best.

Thank you so much for the compliments and encouragement, Tark - I'm really glad that you're enjoying the videos! I'm really grateful that people are responding to my style and experience - I was worried my videos might come across as scattershot, but I'm feeling like there is a space for what I do, and that makes me very happy. I absolutely agree that seeing them perform like this was wonderful - I know there are live performance videos of them too, but these are great because you have the quasi-studio conditions (i.e. not in a big space with amplification and lower quality recording gear) combined with the lack of post-processing that would naturally be used for a music video. Keeps it raw, but allows for every nuance to be heard.

My favorite ACA Top 10 from VP is their movie soundtrack one. Added bonus, Rob Lundquist (a tenor from Home Free) guests on that one! I don't know if anyone has told you yet, but Geoff, Layne and Earl have been friends since they were young when they started singing together in middle school. That's why sometimes Layne and Geoff seem to share a brain!

Happy monthiversary! One of my favorite parts in the cartoon medley is the "my little brony" moment. Not only is J teasing Geoff with the pony but they changed the lyric there. They indeed did a full-length video of Seasons of Love, where VoicePlay (after Tony, before J.) were featured with AJ Rafael. I vote for Phantom! Tony had such fun with the production of that one, it may have been the turning point for him leaving the group as a performer. He even designed Rachel's dress. It might not be one of Geoff's favorites; he injured his left hand while they were building the set. A drill was involved. It's Layne's arrangement. Credits for the set construction list Layne, Tony, and "Geoff's mutilated hand."

Thank you! Ooh - I hadn't come across the SoL video in their back catalogue yet - I'll have to check that out for sure. Yeah, Phantom is very high on my list. I think I might do Mermaid first, just because people are recommending it so much, in particular for Geoff's Ursula, but then Phantom might be the VP video after that. One more coming that I've pre-recorded before either of those though (next week). Goodness, poor Geoff! I dread to think what happened there. I can sympathise, actually - I have a slight bee in my bonnet about one particular show I was in where I helped out the tech crew and ended up dropping a bit of steel deck on my foot - not sure if I actually broke a toe or not, but it certainly had me a little mad at the show. (Fortunately it was during the strike at the end of the run, so it didn't carry into my performance!) Re: Tony designing the dress - I am SO impressed at the variety of skills the VP crew display - that's amazing.

@@davidkreacts You have to go to AJ's channel to see the Seasons of Love cover. I see someone else already provided a link, so that's good. VP do that sometimes where when they collab with someone, they won't have it on their channel, just the collaborator's. For example, they have collabed twice with Kurt Hugo Schneider on a Twenty One Pilots mashup and Waving Through A Window, both which I highly recommend. The ToP video is so amazing in its design and Eli is the featured singer in Waving, and of course, they both sound amazing.

Not a voice changer on that mic, no. It's the mic they use when one of the other guys sings bass during Geoff's solo parts. Bass and percussion need mics up close, while the tenors and baritones are loud enough to sing without a mic during these type of performances. Earl's low fry here needs a mic to be properly audible in the recording.

You mentioned you’re a video gamer? Then you need to know they have done the Halo theme, “Enemy” from League of Legends and a Skyrim mash up of The Dragonborn Comes and the Skyrim theme. You’re welcome. :) As to some other comments you made…The opening riff here I think is just part of the Smurf theme slowed down. The difference you heard in the Scooby Doo theme - this is how I remember it *however*…I’m a bit older and the Scooby show I’m remembering was well before the ‘80’s. Late 60’s/early 70’s I think was when it was made. So they may be pulling from an earlier version of the show.

Another great reaction and happy one month-iversary! Time flies, especially when you're having a lot of fun. Watching some of VoicePlay's older performances really shows how talented they were in the beginning and how much they have evolved as a group and the continued excellence they put into their creations. It's fun to see the same thing with Geoff on his solo journey. I really enjoy your personal stories and experiences in theater salt and peppered through out your breakdowns. It adds a lot of flavor. (See what I did there. LOL!) Please keep doing that. As for prioritizing what you react to, this is your channel, you decide. There are so many artists out there. Who knows, you may lead someone down their own rabbit hole of an artist they never heard of. I wouldn't even know VoicePlay existed if it wasn't for another channel, The Charismatic Voice. I absolutely agree - I went somewhat backwards, starting with a bunch of recent videos and then heading back to this, but even so I can see the differences, and it is great to see how they have come along (even in the four years between these two videos). I'm glad you enjoy my anecdotes as well - I definitely consider myself a jack of all trades, master of none when it comes to the performing arts. You only learn so much at school, so I tried a lot of different things when I left, trying to find what was right for me, and it's given me a broad overview of what I know and like. Also, thanks for the encouragement re doing my own thing. I agree - I think I will always come back to VP and Geoff, especially given the size of their portfolios, but I've rarely been one to stick to the path for too long. Happy Monthiversary! I actually did watch Jem (and the Holograms) when the cartoon was on TV here in the States. Was it a good cartoon? It had its moments. It was very definitely aimed at girls and "girls are cool", but since there wasn't a lot of that going on at the time, it was still fun. I've rewatched it somewhat recently and it was less good than my memories and nostalgia said it was. But I still have a soft spot for it. :) I loved so many of those cartoons and enjoyed them all at the time (some I just can't watch again... coughsmurfscough) If you ever get the chance to watch Beauty and the Beast on stage, do it. It's a great show. They have a number that is very Stomp!-inspired. Phantom should definitely move up on your list, as well as Little Mermaid! If you want to hear more from Tony (a bit more recently), he and Layne co-own Pattycake Productions and they do various musical videos there. Tony occasionally sings parts in those. Sometimes he is even on camera and in costume! (Bump in the Night is one where he is in costume in front of the camera.) When you have a bit of breathing space, you might watch some of their stuff. Besides Bump in the Night, The Villain's Lair is a lot of fun.

Thank you! I really love making them, so won’t be going anywhere, all things being equal. I actually find I’m already seeing more detail in things I watch now, so it’s a benefit to me too.

They HAVE a full cover of Seasons of Love! Well, they are featured artists, but it's great! It's with AJ Rafael (who I believe was in the Sing Off too, may have been in The Philharmonics, but I am not sure).

This was fun! If you’re looking for something a little different I would suggest Hu featuring Lizzy Hale doing Song for Woman. Hu is a Mongolian ban and they do some crazy throat singing.

You’re the second person to suggest that, so will definitely be adding it. I enjoyed what I’ve heard of The HU and Halestorm are fabulous, so I can’t see myself not liking that!

David, hope you feel better soon! Still waiting on you to explore Home Free. They're different in style from VoicePlay, but just as wonderful with incredibly talented vocalists.

@@davidkreacts 1) Other Vocalpoint vids might be better as this one focuses on the featured guest; as you might expect, they do their best work on hymns. 2) I was just suggesting a watch, not a reaction vid. Your work is worthy of donation, and that's a positive obligation on someone who makes a request. Unfortunately I can't donate to any of my favorite youtubers until my wife's cancer goes into remission, fingers crossed. (America's medical situation isn't the horror story it's made out to be: The care is excellent, and our actual medical expenses are covered, but there are ancillary expenses and opportunity costs.)

I was just re-watching your reaction, and I realized I don't see any comments that mention this, but Voiceplay DOES have a full version of Seasons of Love. It's one of the ones that isn't on their channel, so it is easy to miss - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q52Dms-Ttrm0cZs.html - Enjoy :D

Hi David, if you want to hear something really funny than please do a reaction video of Voice Plays song One Minute Musicals Miley Cyrus. It was written by Geoff Castallucci & is too funny not to share. It's one of their older songs & I don't think too many people know about it.. I love searching through some of their older songs because I always find something good.
