Rare doesn't even BEGIN to describe this car. Rallye Red was a special order color for the 1970 model year. The gold interior wasn't a recommended color to pair with Rallye Red, but that's exactly what makes this car so special (as if W-30s aren't special enough). Come with me on this journey as we learn more about this rare, beautiful one-of-a-kind Oldsmobile.

My Dad was an Olds dealer in 1970, I was 14 at the time we sponsored 2 Cutlass w-31's at the local drag strip.Great memories! That's a truly unique color combination! Thanks for sharing.

Steven hit the Oldsmobile Trifecta with his third car with his gorgeous 70 W-30. I like how knowledgeable and how Steven explains everything about his cars. I love my Oldsmobiles and appreciate seeing someone else that does also. Another “Well done” video.

Thanks for featuring all of my cars Bobby! One correction: my W30 has the M21 close ratio 4spd. The M20 wide ratio was not available in the 442. The M22 rock crusher 4spd eventually became available in 71, but I don't think it was an available option in 70. I'm sure the experts will chime in 😉!

On the 4 speed cutlass and 442s in 1970 the rear end ratio determined if you got the M20 or M21. If you ordered the 3.42 or 3.91 rear end you got the M21. If you ordered a lower ( numerically ) gear ratio you got the M20. Remember , you could have ordered a 442 with a manual 3 speed if you wanted in 1970. The only Olds the M22 was ever available on was the 1971 W30.

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I MY very first car was a 1973 Cutlass S which I bought in 1983 when I was 16 and I sold it in 1997 and 2 years ago I bought the same year and model but I love the 1970 442 it was the last year with most horse power.

That is a Beautiful car! The color combo is a first for me! Rally Red with Galleon Gold! I haven't seen Rally Red on many 442's or Cutlasses but Pontiac used the same color in 1969 on the GTO, and Judge plus the Firebird but it was named Carousel Red, And Chevrolet used it on the 1969 Chevelle under the name Monaco Orange and on the 1968 and 1969 Camaro as Hugger Orange! I saw a feature a week or so ago on You Tube on an Oldsmobile W31 That was Sebring Yellow with Galleon Gold stripes, vinyl top and interior! I believe the interview was done at MCACN but I'm not sure, All of the 70 to 72 Oldsmobile 442 and Cutlasses are coming up on my home page now! I would not have thought that Rally Red or Sebring Yellow would have looked good with Galleon Gold if someone mentioned them to me but seeing them on video they look quite striking! I do like the Hardtops better without the vinyl tops though! Sounded like that W30 was all it's supposed to be in the performance department too!

Rallye red is the same paint code as Chevrolet hugger orange.

I have a 1970 W31 and it's paint code is 7575 Matador Red with white interior. Documentated two owner and 32,000 actual miles. Condition looks like new!

No doubt a beautiful car, but describing it as a one of one because of the color combo (including stripes) loses its validity when the owner admits it was a stripe delete and gold vinyl top car from the factory. It would only be a "one of one" if it came that way off the assembly line...

The claim of "one of one" is simply an assumption based on credible input from the W car experts. There are no Oldsmobile production records in existence documenting color combinations to ever prove that assumption. Whether in its current state or original stripe delete, gold vinyl top form, I challenge you to find another. I'll wait...

X2 Steve. I have gotten a couple comments like this and while folks are right we can't really prove it's one of one, neither you nor I said definitively that this car is a one of one. The question mark in the title and the statements "we believe it's one of one" or "I would believe it's one of one" show that we aren't certain, but it's likely. The purpose of the video is to show off a beautiful and rare Olds and present all of the facts that we have at the time. When we do an update video on it I'll make sure the one of one thing is cleared up.

Steve let him know the first thing to check is the rear end cluster housing for the spider gears for cracks I seen a couple of then that were drag raced with both 4-speed and automatic split in half and that was in the 12 Bolt Posi...I don't want to see him damage that car . It's mint in my books... Tire size I would not worry about it will drop the R.P.M. and save the drive train.. bump them up one or two sizes. That was that last year for a true Oldsmobile mussel car...

This would have been a perfect car [imo], if it had the fin, the his/hers Hurst shifter, was gold/blk stripes. The 70' W30 I owned/sold in the 80's [grrr], was gold/blk stripes, auto, etc which explains my thoughts above.

In 1971 the compression ratio was lowered, which caused a decrease in horsepower rating. In 1972, the way horsepower was rated was changed... from gross to net, thus the decrease in horsepower rating.

Interested in your car do you ever plan on selling? I have a amazing 442 for 20k for sale local. I have a 72 Cutlass 442 W30 only 15k original body it's in the middle of frameofff restoration. Do you have anything that you would part with it. I really need a Cutlass please help. I have a amazing 1972 Red Cutlass Convertible all original all maintenance is done turn key and go. I really what that black interior 442 or Hoilday Hurst W30 something nice have money live in Michigan if you wanna see a amazing 72 oldsmobile convertible got a amazing one that can drive across country and enjoyed.
