Is an EIN required if you are the only employee?

EIN is based on the business structure. If you're a sole proprietor (only employee) and don't want to set up as a corporation, you can just go on the IRS website and file as a sole proprietorship and get an EIN. But it always helps to have an EIN because if you don't, you will be filing taxes on your social. EIN serves as the business's social security number in a sense. Hope this helps.
