I wish someone would show which tape works best after being on paper for several weeks. Some tape has a great seal. So great in fact that it rips your paper upon removal.

I tried to remove tape from my drawing board after a month. It took the varnish off the board! Imagine what that would do to paper! Remove tape from paper asap. No tape can stay on paper for long without damage.

Scotch tape works and you can reduce ripping (with any tape) by gently heating it with a hairdryer first.

Thank you. I'm just learning to draw. I am using an inexpensive sketch diary Pen and Gear paper. I purchased 3M Safe Release tape. It tore up the edges of my first drawing. On my next drawing I used a hair dryer and slowly removed the tape. Total success! Again thanks!😄

Thank you Jane for the brilliant comparisons! That really helped. I had trouble with the masking tapes on canvas and watercolor papers. I found Scotch-Blue 2090 Safe-release masking tape was pretty good but from time to time it damaged the watercolor paper when tearing it off. Will definitely give a shot on the Scotch tape. Wish I found your demo much earlier! 👍😁

Totally agree. I have been using Scotch brand tape for my alcohol ink painting since the beginning because it sticks well, gives crisp lines and can tolerate heat without curling. The only thing you can't do is get any moisture underneath. When you apply it, the surface has to be dry. I feel like that goes without saying, honestly, but thought I would mention it. :) Great comparison video! Thank you!

@DancingQueenie

Sherry Put it in your pants?
@lizday8140
@lizday8140 4 жыл бұрын
@@DancingQueenie it's a technique where you place a length of tape on your pants, or just about any clothing or cloth, and when you remove it, the tack has been reduced, thus, less likely to damage paper when removing it from your artwork later. I haven't tried it, but I have heard professional painters speak of it, and they recommend it. Of course, use good judgement and do a trial run on scrap paper first. You might have trouble with seepage, if the clothing lint that does cling to the tape is too abundant, and blocks the tape from masking cleanly enough. For instance, I would *not* use a cloth with a bunch of large lint, like bath towels, fleece or flannel. Something tightly-woven, like denim, twill or lawn cotton would be best.

I have used Scotch magic tape and it’s ok for the first 60 minutes or so then after a while, it starts pulling away from the paper and has to be constantly pressed down so I stopped using it. I even resorted to using a bone folder to press it down and still it comes away. This is on watercolour paper btw. I now use washi tape and have no issues, it stays put.

I currently just use white masking tape and dont really have problems, but tape always seems to get tougher to take off after weeks and weeks sometimes a month for me to finish my piece? I just wonder how well these would come off of they hadn't just been freshly put on and after repeatedly getting wet again and again.

I simply cannot believe which tape came out to be number one. It wasn’t the one I expected, rather it was the one I least expected. Man, what an experiment. Six - count ‘em - six kinds of tapes. I am very disappointed that she didn’t test the scotch variety that is sticky on both sides. For now, we’ll never know how well it performs.
