The only thing I hate about season 1 is that Dee is still mostly written as the "voice of reason" character. Kaitlin was absolutely right when she said that female character was done to death, and she only wanted to do the show if she were as crazy as the guys. The show is SO much better because of it.

Kind of like in the early seasons of Seinfeld when Elaine was supposed to be the decent person who cared about social issues. Seinfeld didn't take off until she was as awful as the rest of them (and the other characters weren't as irritating, cynical, weird and awful yet either for that matter, but Elaine was much more "pure").

Tbh, speaking from a black man's perspective, the first episode really made me think, "Oh! Despite what you may assume at first glance, this show recognizes and appreciates the black experience too!" It let me know that, even with a predominately white cast, the show would make me feel represented in a relatable way without sacrificing the quality of the comedy. The only people who might be offended by this episode wouldn't be black, that's for sure!

The first season is flawless it might not have landed in its clarity but charlie nailed it with saying they based the humor in the characters ignorance, but also the relatabilty of their more human sides. The low budget and inexperience was really endearing considering you guys were breaking down new barriers in comedy, its a shame this episode isnt looked back on too fondly in the public eye. The humor was so smart along with the subject matter i immedietly fell in love with it.

I think it's a popular held belief that S1 isn't really that great because no Danny Devito and Dee (and most of the gang) not being as developed. And that's true, as far as characters go, S1 feels like an experiment. That said, the writing is actually really memorable. It's actually the only season I remember each and every episode and their plotline completely. :)

Mr. Devito is the missing link in bringing out the full potential of Charlie's character, so he is the cherry on top but season one is full of great chaos and rushes of laughter that will have you rewinding an scene. For example "Gun Fever" episode when Charlie closes the door behind the landlord after he flashes the gun and his so full of gun fever that he has a physical reaction like almost throwing up. 2013 I came across my cousin binge watching Sunny, Season 3 Episode 1 and I immediately had to find out more with Season 1. I'm so frickn' glad this Podcast was started. I've watched all seasons and binge watch the seasons all over again, but now there's this. I'm a complete fan. Keep it up guys, love your work.

There is a real symmetry with how they are describing the first ep of Sunny and how this early podcast is. Knowing now how the podcast develops. I wonder if in twenty years they will do a vr show retrospective of the podcast😂

For those who think this season didn't age well, you're dead wrong. I'm a black person and I wish more people had the balls to say what's true.
@colin8007
@colin8007 2 жыл бұрын
from what we heard here, it seems Charlie still has the balls but unfortunately Glenn and Rob may have a pair between the two of them. so that's 4/6 if the original 6 balls...kinda explains why the show is 2/3 what it used to be. Still great though

@@colin8007 your math is wrong because there’s like 5 other writers.
@MamadNobari
@MamadNobari Жыл бұрын
@@colin8007 I mean to be fair though, I feel like for them who are the writers and the creators, it's like when you uncover old text chats of you flirting with a girl you don't even remember and cringing hard. Seeing how cringe you were 5 years ago or 10 years is a sign of maturity and surely you find what your 12 yo self found funny cringey and immature now. So it kinda makes sense. On the other hand tho, as a viewer, the show is comedy gold and it had the balls to do stuff they did in the first season, and I don't find it in any way offensive as is the creators themselves are offensive. Obviously the characters of the show are offensive and racist, but the show is written in a way to show that they are in the wrong and anyone with half a brain should recognize that. So while I do understand why Glenn wouldn't like those old seasons, I fuckin hate it when writers and actors of old shows like The Office (which is so fuckin tame compared to this show and Curb) come out and say they wouldn't write something like that today or don't know how they did that, and also like Glenn in this video said, not understanding why people like those more and watch more of that instead of the lame boring shows we get nowadays. Like bro, it's not that hard to understand, the comedy is offensive (in a good way) and dares to go places studios and writers are too afraid to go now, of course we love those more than whatever we're getting now.

@@MamadNobari it's cause that's what people get a fuckin cookie for these days in California especially! Honestly it's sick. People just say what they think will please people the most instead of what they really feel cause they don't wanna get "cancelled". Not realizing that with something like The Always Sunny viewers, I would literally pay them every month for content and I'm sure most of us would support them. They are uncancellable!

because I had to introduce the series to many friends of mine I had watched the 1st season 8-9 times and I have to say that this season even if it lacks many things that I LOVED in later seasons it's a PURE MASTERPIECE and a great introduction to the best live action sitcom ever been made
