Your MSR were well played. I hope you did well in London. Your guide to tuning was quite useful and as my tutor had instructed me.

I couldn’t agree more. If I’m playing for some event where there is a long time between my tune up and it’s a short performance I will employ what I call a “cold tune”. If I can play my pipes very close to the time of the performance I will employ either a warm tune or a hot one depending on the duration of the performance. The hot tune can be quite difficult during changing conditions. It’s at those times I consider that I should have chosen the guitar or the piano 😂😂😂 I should qualify that statement however by saying the the pipes are the Ferrari of instruments. Complex and finicky to get in tune and makes a horrible sound when they aren’t, but once they are it’s a glorious, tremendous and powerful sound unmatched by any instrument. 👍👍👍

when I play funerals or weddings in churches, I try to tune up and lay my pipes on the heater in the back of the church. As you well know, once people start filing in, you can no longer re-tune. The heater has kept my pipes in acceptable tune because the pipes stay quite warm...above 80.

It’s nice to see this channel. I haven’t played since my Pipes were stolen back in 2004 (car was stolen while I was visiting my father in Christmas). Life went a different direction and I just never picked it up again. I’ve very recently wanted to get another chanter and see if I still have any talent left, and retrain, and get another set. It’s been close to 20yrs since I’ve bought a set and would like to know if you have any recommendations for where I can get a decent quality beginner set of pipes eventually that won’t cost me the same as my iPhone haha. Thanks for the videos!!

Andrew - thank you very much for the very simple but extremely helpful explanation of tuning. After 7 years of playing grade 4 and having the tuning process explained in many different ways, it was very helpful to be able to visualize the process and see what is actually happening as you play. Now I feel as though I have a better understanding of what Is actually going on. What is the name of the March that you were playing at the end of this video? Beautiful march and your pipes sound truly stunning! Good luck in London man!

I watched this hoping to learn something new...well, I figured this out a few decades ago, the trick is to tune so artfully that the audience thinks it's part of the performance...which it is, I suppose.
