The Wood Gasifier Builder's Bible, a new book on wood gasification is being released on September 15, 2014. Visit woodgasifierpla... for more info.
In this book you will learn how to build a WWII wood gasifier with advanced shaker grate, heat recycling and automation that eliminate common gasifier problems. We took the Imbert Gasifier and gave it a total makeover with locally available DIY materials.
In this video, author Ben Peterson gives you a sneak peak at the book and shows you unique footage of building a wood gasifier as an alternate energy source that can heat your home, make electricity to go off grid and alternative fuel vehicles in times of oil shock and shortage.
Ben is handing down his knowledge gained at Victory Gasworks to the next generation in this new book. He has built many downdraft gasifiers, including the "Doomsday Preppers Gasifier" for engineer775 (Scott Hunt) that appeared on the show.
Make biomass fuels by distilling wood gas from branches and construction debris. Building a gasifier is fun, but converting biomass to energy for free is AWESOME! This is the best survival skill there is. Period.
The wood gas generator is a micro refinery that allows you to wood fuel engines. It's petro free and proven for over 100 years. There is some great footage of a Kubota wood gasification generator that was made to run on wood fuel or propane. The machine has a powerful gasifier blower that gives it quick start times and ample gas flow, perfect for storing wood gas.
Sure there are free plans out there, like the FEMA wood gasifier, but do you want to make tar? You could build a gek wood gasifier, but I think you will find this design better balanced and easier to build. For 1/3 the price of a leaf wood gasifier, you can build your own and gain from the experience learned over 20,000 hours that made it into THIS DESIGN.
Woodgas technology for the common man has made a leap forward with this new book and the work of other DIY'ers like Wayne Keith and Vesa Mikkonen.
As an added bonus Ben is also publishing a workshop to build a wood gasifier air mixer or an "Electronic Carburetor" as he calls it. This is the missing ingredient for thousands of builders trying to make woodgas power in their first or 10th gasifier build.
Get your copy of The Wood Gasifier Builder's Bible at:

Hi Ben, so good to see you back on the web doing the wonderful things you do. You are an inspiration toward American innovation. The gasifier is hot man, but your shop, mechanical skills, knowledge, and passion about science and all things related is what shines through. Please, keep on, learning and showing us your ideas and perspectives. I learn as much from watching how you do things as I do with what you do. Thanks for working hard to combine your years of work and study into a guide book for us all.

I've always been fascinated with the process of gasification. Done researching it in the past and started to accumulate things to build a FEMA gasifier. The plans were on the internet. Obviously you have taken us way further than the FEMA gasifier which is plagued with problems. I'm sure I will be purchasing your book very shortly in converting my accumulated Parts into your design. Thank you for being such a true patriot to this country. That's very few people realize how vulnerable the whole system is. 1 EMP or coronal mass ejection and we're right back to the 1800s if we're lucky. Keep up the good work

you are the King of Gassifiers. everyone else are just amatuers. I first heard of wood gassifiers 30 years ago on the Paul Harvey radio show. He spoke about the gas rationing in England during WW2.,and folks adapted their cars. The Germans had their own fuel crisis and adapted the tiger tanks that were used in training to run on wood gas. . I was thrilled by your excellent presentation because in comparison all other videos are a waste of my time And you literally wrote the book on it. anyone serious about it is going to need a technical manual to refer as they go through the build process.. As soon as i can get my water turned back on and pay for my meds Im buying your book. I cant wait to get it in my hands.

This is great info! I'm so glad someone is taking woodgas seriously! I am an arborist and I have seen so much wood go to waste. I have a backyard forest full of medium sized trees that would make great fuel. I am currently building an outdoor rocket mass heater for my garden and I want to use the top of the oil drum to heat wood to make syngas. I want to use that syngas to run a generator to charge a battery and/or run lights/fan/heat/accessories This info is absolutely stellar! I'm definitely gonna buy this book

Right-On, Thanks, You've done a fantastic job building the gasifier and working the kinks out of the system for guys like myself who are interested in this alternative. I've dabbled in all the alternate energy sources and always regardless what I've build or working on have come back to this for numerous reasons. HH0 generators: are good but, inconsistent, which can play havoc running a generator. Wind doesn't make a usable gas and same goes with solar. It boils down to whats the best boom for the buck and I believe a gasifier serves all those needs, from running a vehicle to a generator, Those two things alone that covers a huge area. Thanks again. I appreciate it.

I've built the FEMA version gasifier and then one that was my design based on my research. I'm a disabled veteran and have time on my hands. I really liked my design but it had a ton of heat loss. My plan was to put that heat to good use by incorporating several heat exchangers for hot water and hot air. Since then I've gone through a divorce, lost my house, lost my storage units that held my gasifier, that also held all of the components to construct another gasifier and other gasification devices I was working on. I also had several back surgeries. That being said, I really like the design of this unit. I looked for the book mentioned here,but it's off the charts expensive. Can anyone point me in the direction of perhaps a used book? If so please let me know. Thank you. And a special thanks to the gentleman presenting this video.god bless. Jason

Ask around and you'll get a lot of blank looks if the words kaowool, mig and tig welding or plasma cutter are used. Then there are even some electricians who have issues with wrapping their heads around a DC current system. I hope you do well with it and I can see anyone that gets the manual will most likely be building at least a few complete units for others.

Hi. Id like to ask a question. Me and a friend are finishing High school next year. I am finishing industrial mechanics school, and he is finishing economy school. We are trying to find a small source of money, before we go to college. And thought that a wood gasifier, would be a great beginning. The gas that comes out of the wood gasifier, will power a gas motor, that power a generator... and the generator puts the inducted electricity in the web... and by doing so, you start producing your own electricity and sell it. Well since wood is not that expensive , we thought it would be a great idea. But my questions are... how much will it cost to make a wood gasifier, and how efficient would that wood gasifier be ? And is it possible to make a wood gasifier that produces 50kwh and not spend more than 5.000 euros ? Is it even possible to make such a project alone? And how much wood do you need to produce 1kwh ?

I thought of something cool that could be added to this gasifier, an HHO generator. The condensate that the gasification creates is generally treated as a waste product, but if you were to apply electrolysis of water to it you'd have additional hydrogen and oxygen you could then add to the gas flow.
@galactica58
@galactica58 2 жыл бұрын
The condensate won't be clean, destroying the electrolysis surfaces. on top of this, this will use significantly more electricity than the improved calorific value of the fuel will net you. Only 5-20% of the power you put into electrolysis comes out of the engine. And if you have surplus electricity, you might as well use an electric motor instead.

could I make a 20kw gasifier with a 55gallon drum and if so what size feed pipe would I need?

I'm curious to know just how often you have to refill the wood hopper for continuous use? How scalable is it? I would be looking to run a 5hp generator with it.

Wood gassification makes sense if you're doing it yourself with just paint buckets and the like, but for this level of fabrication, a large Stirling engine seems a much better route, especially with the flexibility of any fuel you can burn/parabolic mirrors.

Then you have to fabricate a Stirling engine. Those aren't all that common.

Two questions. 1). The gasifier rate of production is independent of the motor. So what happens when your producing more gas than the engine is burning? Flare it off? I first got into gasification thru wood boilers. Totally different animal. I now find myself in need of a maple syrup evaporator. Not the most efficient way of burning wood.

The one thing that I don’t seem to find any answers too. Is how many hours of running will these do before they need a good clean out ? I see ppl running for 5 or six hours. But will it run for say a week ? With just topping up the wood hopper befor it needs cleaning ?

~ good to see you progressing bro + I see you went all the way on trying to regulate RPM / load in an attempt to make clean 110 vac 60 hz rather than go inefficiently with strait DC for battery charging, heat scavenging & inverted that to clean 117 AC as needed ? = shared your work, butt don't you have a cheaper & more convenient downloadable DvD for those on a budget that can not afford a hard copy for their grandcavechildren in the survived hear after :)

I just got the book in the mail today. Worth every penny. There's a section that tells you exactly what you need, where to buy it, and also says if you could get it through scrap. I'm very cheap. I'll be digging through the scrap yard alot. But I do have a question, after building one....could I sell them on the side to make money? Kinda like a small business? Or are there laws against it?

Just do it “under the table”, make them the best each time, and provide customer service so you can charge just enough to get you by for repairing them. Also go to landfills like NO TOMORROW so you can dumpster dive for usable metal.

You would probably need permission from the person who created it and sold you the book with designs he has copyrights to or possibly be sued.

Gathering materials now,,this can be done with recyclables,in many different types of designs,I always knew that smoke was just un-burnt fuel..

smoke is not unburnt fuel. Smoke is just inert Co2. That green gas that comes off of wood sometimes when you get your fire really hot but there isn't a huge flame? THAT is wood gas, which in this case is the "unburnt fuel".

Now if you can make a system to cool, filter and compress that wood gas into a storage container ,now that wood be a best saler .. you should give a royalty lmao lol just saying good luck great video and love the gasification system you put together.. it's a shame it has to burn trees though.. Question why cant you break down petroleum based fuel the same way ?

Is there a way you could utilise the heat from the furnace to potentially dry any damp medium as it enters through a hopper? That way if you're trimming vegetation you could feed it immediately via a chipper/shredder? Maybe a condenser to separate steam before it gets to the engine?
