1 Year FULL-TIME TRAVEL Q&A (International Full-Time Travel). We have now been traveling full-time for just about a year. There are many questions we receive from our viewers regularly - so we want to answer them all here for you. Some of the hot topic questions are:
How do you handle insurance when home in the US?
What is our monthly Budget?
How does our family feel about our decision to travel full-time?
Where are we headed next?
Do we have any regrets?
How do we avoid the Schengen 90-day rule and travel Europe for a year?
Where has our favorite beer been so far?
We love staying in contact with our audience so if we don't answer your question in this video - please reach out to us in the comments!
Cheers!!!

This is one of my favorite videos that you have made for sure. I had thought about some of these same questions to ask as well. Carrie, no one believes you that you are over 50. I am shocked. I seriously thought you were going to say 39. I love your answer about the best time frame to travel with having aging parents and children. "When is ever a good time". So true. At some point you just have to go. I would love to hear your top 5 favorite places to visit at some point. Since you keep traveling I am sure this keeps changing.

"When is the right time?" is an excellent answer on when you could do this! Aging parents definitely a consideration. Kids and their situation. I just heard a story yesterday of a colleague who's in-laws had a stroke and starting dementia at the age of 70yo! It's a scary prospect when thinking about looking to see the world. FaceTime, WhatsApp with video calls help tremendously I imagine. Friends and colleagues I am sure would be jealous. "You can't put a price on memories"! So very true! You found each other. That is winning the lottery! You have a partner that you are connected to. Priceless. As Rick Steves would say on packing light and smarter "no one would ever say I wish I packed heavier" when they return. Cheers on the craft beer! When you get to Germany, the beer scene there is tremendous!

Just discovered your channel and appreciate the honest, common sense, and inviting commentary of your videos. My family all live in Bellingham!! 🙂 My parents were like you, they retired in their early fifties and traveled the world. Now that they are much older (80's) and their traveling days are behind them, they are both grateful that they did it when they were younger and had more energy. I hope to live in Europe in retirement...just getting those ducks in a row. Thank you!!

Miss you so much and really looking forward to having much more time at home this Nov and Dec. We don't have regrets of doing this, but the being away from family and friends is hard. This year was the hardest since we only got home one time... From here forward it will be a bit easier since we will be gone 4.5 months at a time not 6 to 7 months... Much more doable. ❤️😊

Thank you so much for your time and energy to create these video for us. The research and doubts take so much of you, and your real life advices are precious. One question : what plans do you have for your very adult future-like 70-80 years of old. Where do you want to moor, to settle. And how do you feel not having a permanent home? Thank you in advance
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
Great question. We really haven't decided on what we will want to do late in life. If we find that perfect spot for us where we can settle down outside the US we will. Someday we would like to tour the US as well so maybe we can do that at 70. As far as not having a permanent home it feels very freeing. With grown kids and no responsibilities, there is nothing holding us back! Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻

Loving your videos. My wife and I are close to your age as well (53). We are planning on full-time travel in a few years. Our daughter is in college now and once that is wrapped up we'll be looking to do this. I thought a good episode would be how do you cook in Air BNB. Cutlery, spices, pots and pans, kitchen equipment in Air BNB. Stoves in other countries. I'm sure there have been some fun challenges. It's wonderful to see the places you travel to and the cost breakdowns are awesome but a typical "day in the life" video would be fun to see as well.
@BrianandCarrie

Hi John! That is a great idea for a video. We have definitely experienced a WIDE range of challenges in each Airbnb we stay in. Some are very equipped (we are always so excited when we arrive and see this) and others lack the basic necessities (making all things cooking a challenge). But, we've also learned quite well how to make due and make the best of each situation. We will add that video idea to our list down the line. Thanks so much for watching! Cheers 🍻

Great videos guys! We're from Vancouver, Canada and we kind of took a similar path and ideology. Cashed out our home to retire, decided we're at middle aged like you guys, and quality time is worth more than money the older you grow. So we woudve made the same decision as you would've not taken a high-paying job. We have moved to Czech Republic to cut down our living cost and embark on European tours for the next few years and on to other countries after that.If you really love beers , you must come to Czech Republic, beers are still cheaper than water and pop even during these times. So many varieties, they usually take up huge section ,about 3rd of the store, you can get fire deals every day on good alcohol.

Love this video! Giving us the confidence to actually start planning this out, thanks for your honest answers/insight. One thing I can't figure out is ...do you still have to file a US State tax return even though you're traveling most of the year? Are you still considered a resident of your home state? I assume there's no getting out of federal taxes :)

Greetings from the Northwest! Great video! Your videos were solid from the start, but rest-assured, your improvement is showing. One hurdle my husband and I will need to get over in our decision to either settle or do long-term travel abroad is the process of selling/getting rid of our possessions. I would love to hear more about the emotional and logistical process you went through to do that. If you've done that already, could you share the link? Thanks for all your hard work behind the scenes!

Hi Carol! Thank you so much for watching and the kind words - we really appreciate it :) Both Brian and I had already sold our homes and were renting at the time we decided to make the move- so that wasn't a decision we needed to make in our process. What made our process a bit easier is in the few years prior we had both downsized our homes a few different times and already narrowed down our belongings. We did discuss the idea of maybe getting a storage unit for the first year, giving us time to really decide if the life of full-time travel was for us. But in the end, we knew we would not be coming back to our hometown to live and would most likely move quite a distance away. We ultimately decided to just take the leap and get rid of it all, knowing in the end, it's really only items that we could replace. We did keep memorabilia and some key items we just couldn't part with in a few bins at my daughter's. And now a year later - we haven't had any regrets! It's a very freeing feeling to not be held down by possessions. Hope that helps :)

Hey, really enjoy following you 2... My wife and I are planning to hit the road early next year and do a decade or so of travel! Our goal is 60+ countries 6-7 continents and do a mix of go-go & slow travel, 1 week to 1 month stops, although I am sure we will adjust over the first year to what works best and fills our in country expectations. Have you 2 ever considered traveling with others, not necessarily full time, but having travel friends along? I've traveled the world a couple times over in my career, shes limited and I have found that having other couples or meet ups made things more fun at times. Either way, we are really excited to start our journey and enjoy the fruits of our labor for the past 40 years!

Hey, thank you so much. It is amazing what you are about ready to do. We have found that we like to mix it up between go-go and slow. We sometimes start getting bored after 3 weeks or so depending on the location. At the same time, we enjoy unpacking and settling in for a longer stretch. For us, it really depends on location. We have not traveled with others but have had a couple meetups with people that watch our channel a couple of times. Where are you heading to first? Cheers!!!🍻

Hello from California! I just started watching your videos and subscribed. I love your videos and I have to questions I hope you can reply to please, by the way one of my questions might be answered as I am commenting while also listening to your video right now. 1) What type of job did you have before traveling? 2) I am planning to visit Transylvania next year but is it possible to only spend 2 days? We really just want to take a walk and visit the famous Draculas Castle then leave to Italy. TAKE CARE you TWO! I hope you keep making all these great videos and yes please include transportation and all travel costs and month of visit 😃 THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These tours are available in old town Brasov. Great choice to visit Romania as part of your trip!! Thank you for watching and safe travels!! Cheers!!!🍻

Brian, you are a “beer guy” - you’re definitely one of us. If you haven’t already and if you appreciate a strong drink before a strong lunch (especially grilled meat), try the “PALINCA” - specifically the one made of plums … only try limiting to 50 grams, as the real deal has 65% alcohol - they’re not kidding when they call it a “strong” drink … probably only Russians and Cubans could compete with that. Looking forward to your next video. Take care, stay safe and have a wonderful time.

I recommend the follow places to visit in Romania: Salina Turda,Maramures cimitirul vesel (the funny graveyard) Bucovina - Vatra Dornei, Cheile Bicazului Rarau - Durau, Vulcanii noroiosi Buzau county, Gura Portitei ,Mamaia beach Constanta County and of course most visit places like Transfagarasan, Dracula castle and for next country to visit I highly recommend Georgia- is safe , very interesting places to visit, low prices and can stay one year without restrictions. Travelling can be stressful, i am telling you this from personal experience. Me and my wife did a tour of Romania and we had 5 weeks but on beginning of summer and another 3 weeks mid autumn We did skip a lot of stuff we already know and went off the beaten path but let me tell you it was a rush and we just searched a place to sleep nearby around sunset wherever we ware at sunset , literally running from a museum to another and hurry up to catch the next one before it closed. And the total km driven was over 20k That's what it takes to visit most castles , churches, towns, caves, museums, waterfalls, diving on most mountain passes , seeing most of the natural parks, natural hot springs, salt mines, ruins etc etc. It's a mad race to fit everything in 2 moths and we had 5 min for a selfie and then hit the road again , and that is mostly stressful than anything else. Romania has a bit of everything but let's be honest there are more impressive castles in France, more beautiful Beaches in span , more specacular ruins in Greece more interesting museums in Italy etc. There is however something Romania has and the others don't, some people call it backwardness other people call it traditions. That's pretty much extinct in western Europe, and Romania still keeps a few isolated pockets of that in deep rural country, where the way of life has not changed fundamentally from 1000 years ago. That's pretty much why I recommend Maramureș since that's the best preserved area overall If you like settling down for a while and emerse yourself why not try small villages? That's in my opinion the only thing unique Romania has to offer vs western Europe
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Selcovoi. A lot of what you say may be true but Romania does have something to offer that other countries fall behind on. The people here have been incredibly welcoming, proud of Romania, and excited that we are here trying our best to show what it is really like. As I'm sure you know, parts of western Europe have a reputation for tourists like us. We will miss a lot only staying here for two months and traveling the way we do. We won't get Northeast or to the Black Sea, unfortunately. We will have to make another trip in the coming years to see the rest. Thank you for the post and for watching! Cheers!!!🍻

@@BrianandCarrie The welcoming part towards foreigners may be a surprising side effect of the years of communism You see , the securitate or the secret police had eyes and ears everywhere, people ware pressured to rat out fellow coworkers family members , taxi drivers, teachers, bartenders sometimes spouses Anyone and everyone could rat you out so people ware not opened to say stuff , quite the opposite and people got suspicious of one another However there was a group of people who would never colaborare with the securitate: foreigners, especially those from the West. You have no idea how much people wanted to open up and say stuff so someone without fear of getting reported Maybe this explains the curious nature of the Romanian people: helpful and welcoming towards foreigners and suspicious and mean to each other :)) Oh and P.S the Black Sea coast is disgusting in my opinion and don't worry for skipping it , it's nothing special

Great video and really appreciate that you shared your budget of $1000.00 each per month which seems amazingly affordable. I am looking at retiring ASAP and travelling the world. You provide great inspiration as I feel I have overprovisioned allowing for a much higher monthly budget then I need to perhaps. Thanks for sharing that you went with Cigna health insurance, I was looking at Safety Wing for my insurance possibly. One question I had was where have you invested your savings? And are you concerned that with the current high inflation rates, do you feel your budget will allow you to continue traveling in the future?
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
Hi Brad, thank you so much for watching! Great questions - inflation is definitely something on everyones minds right now. We aren't concerned at this point that we will need to raise our monthly budget by much though. One thing we have learned over this last year is that there are so many places we can travel with very low living costs. So just like this last year, we traveled into areas that cost a bit more and then balanced it by traveling to places with lower costs, this will continue to be the case. It all comes down to working within your budget at the time, so as you research you will find a airbnb in your budget (even if they went up, your still picking one in your budget at that time). As far as investments go, I really like index funds - but everyone has a different comfort level for their risk of investments. Both Brian and I also set aside 2 years living costs (in a non volitale account) so in the event of market flucuations, we don't have to withdrawel at that time. Hope this helps. Cheers!!

Just one other thing on Cigna health insurance, if you look at some of the reviews they don't seem that positive not sure if one can go by those but worth mentioning I think, to see if you looked at the reviews since you have not made any claim as of yet on the plan?
