This actually amazing. As someone who plays the piano for over ten years i can easily admit that it took me way longer to reach your skill level. Hearing you play Claire de Lune, even just the beginning of it, at 11 months is extremely inspiring for me. I love classical music, and to hear one of my favorite classical pieces being played after only playing piano for less than a year, that was impressive to me. Great job, this was an experience to watch, and good luck on the rest of your piano journey :D

I took piano lessons for 6 years, starting at the age of 9, (that was 1959) and I still play. It's not uncommon to spend two or three hours a day on the keyboard. Of course it's a lot easier now that I'm retired. Trust me, sometimes it gets frustrating, but in the long-term it definitely is worth it. Hing in there.

This is one of the most realistic Piano journeys I have seen on KZfaq. I admire the grind. A lot of these people put up videos where they start playing easy pieces in the first few weeks with proper fingering, shapes ( like the curved pinky finger, lol) , and complete dexterity; I just hate that. For example, no matter how talented you are, you are not getting that curved pinky while playing during your initial days, it takes monthsss. Keep up the good work, man. :)

I did the same thing over quarantine I knew how to play only a little bit but I had the music theory I just wanted to get better. One of my favorite pieces by my favorite composer is Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi and that is the piece that quadrupled my skill playing. I self taught myself also so what I an saying is the people that have basic understanding of piano by that I mean can play an octave scale both hand pretty smoothly go straight to learning Nuvole Bianche the original version not the easy it is an amazing piece, you learn a lot from it, and it is mega fun to play. This is kind of dragging on but the reason why I wasn’t getting better before was because when I was taking lessons (only a few and she pretty much taught me hand positioning which is a big deal and helped) she would give me the easy version of songs which I like to listen to the song and then play it I have a decent ear and I could never find the exact version. Anyways learn a few easy songs like canon in d easy or river flows in you easy and then move to hard songs. Yes they can be challenging but it is fun and you feel good when you learn a harder piece from all the hard work you put in😁 this was a great video!!

Nice video and very good progress. Obviously your knowledge of rhythm helped you kick start your learning. I was self thought as well before I started taking lessons about 3 years ago and Clair de lune is still above my level. Classical pieces can look deceptively easy. For the romantic period things like pedalling, dynamics, phrasing, playing the top note of a chord as melody, playing rubato, etc... is very important but I'll stop being a snob :D What matters is that you enjoy playing

Very nice! The thing I noticed was that your piano looks rather high. your arms shouldn't go up from your elbows, you should have basically an L shape that may be angled from your shoulders outwards a bit. Its hard to describe but there are lots of videos shown you. The right height makes a HUGE difference in comfort and fluidity EDIT: it looks like you've fixed it by the end.

Adelante 💪

Awesome evolution, keep it up! Also: do you recommend Adult Piano Adventures Book 1? I'm not an absolute beginner, I would consider my level similar as your 7 moths level but I find it hard for me to learn by myself without any guidance..

I highly recommend it, yes. The accompanying audio and video explanations from Randall Faber are especially helpful in the beginning.

great progress! little side note: I'd recommend you to set the stool a bit higher. your elbows should be at least at the same height as your wrists, if not even higher. try that out for a few weeks! once you're used to it i'm sure you won't go back to the old set up.

Thanks for the tip! After I watched this back, I actually did do that. The reason it was orginally at this height is because the stand couldn't go lower and the stool couldn't go higher (they were both cheap lol). But as you've pointed out, my elbows are a little too low. I've since got a new stand which goes low enough :D

My teaching method works by half of the time reading music, the rest by theory, ear training, rhythmic studies. Taking lessons eliminates much trial and error.

You really should think about buying an acoustic piano! At the skill level you have reached it would definitely be a worthwhile investment.

Your very good for a beginner but you still need to work on a couple things. As someone with 8 years of experience on piano who practices daily I would like to give you a couple tips. One: with long jumps don’t try to stretch try to use movement in your arm to make them. Two: try to keep a lot of movement in your arm try to never tense your arm/wrist. Three: never give up with piano there is a period where everything you play seems really difficult and it makes you want to quit this period lasted about one to two years with me. Push past that, you will get really good if you do because I pushed past that period (it was roughly 4 years ago) now I am able to play things like moonlight sonata all three movements, Chopin op 10 no 5, and listz’s un sospiro. When it feels difficult keep in mind how good you can become if you do you will be better than I am now.
