LOL...I wish I had seen this 4 years ago....I am guilty on all counts! Maybe add a good burley blend to the beginner tobacco purchase. Great video. Cheers from Denmark

Thanks for sharing Greg. I first started back in the 90s. My brother in law was a pipe smoker and his tobacco of choice was Borkum Riff Whiskey. When he passed I inherited his stuff. I was inexperienced as we all are when we start out. I had a lot of tongue bite issues and usually failed more than I succeeded. I even burn out a pipe. I got better and smoked a pipe for 10 years then walked away from it. I started back 3 years ago and did things differently this time around. Now it’s more enjoyable. Great tips. This is an individual hobby and you have to find what works best for you. Happy smokes

Well said, there is a lot of pipe snobbery out there

Hello Stephen! I have been lucky so far, only ran into one or two that I might consider a bit snobby. Glad most folks here are really kind and helpful. Hope you are having a great weekend!

So true, don't think you could ever really learn everything about it. Think that is what draws a lot of folks in. The complexity and variety.

ive been pipe smoking about 8 years, i use a basic lighter and a homade ashtray that i glued a cork to. i have a few pipes but have 3 savinelli and some 4 or 4 cheap pipes. i tend to rotate them but use my savinellis the most. for tobbaco i tend to stick to a peterson range but reaslly like petersons sherlock holmes mix.

Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Since I made that video I have used my 3 Savinelli 673's the most. I def got too carried away buying pipes and tobacco when I first started. Hope you have a great week!

Great tips! Learning and the whole process is part of the fun to me.. Pipe smoking is relaxing to me and something I look forward. Not just something I mindlessly do. Glad you’re sticking with it and am happy you’re still in the YTPC 😊

Thank you JC. For me it was always about relaxation and calm. I usually only have one pipe a day, so that has become "sacred" time. Since I have so much tobak, guess I will be piping for the next decade or two at least lol.

Thank you! I remember watching vids when I first started and they made it seem really complicated. I had written down steps and notes to try not to make any mistakes lol. Then I find out, it's really not rocket surgery 🤣. Hope your weekend is going well.

Some great tips there! I reckon that we all have looked back and identified things we have wasted our money on - certain pipes or certain tobaccos or accessories etc. I have a looooong list LOL. But I have to admit, I have had fun along the way anyway.

Nice list of tips! I agree with not over complicating it. When I quit caring about correctly packing is when everything clicked for me. "Just do it," is what I tell people. I think I'll stop by my local shop, see if they have the first tobacco I smoked. It was some bulk blend. Might be fun.

@@variablehobbyist hey Greg! I miss you man ! You should use that pipe once a year to celebrate each passing year. Twenty years from now you will be happy you kept it. About the damn Lakelands. Janez told me they don’t have RB plug. It ruined my day. I will see what else I can do. I will figure something out.
