My previous house burned down so I decided to build a new one. I also built the previous house and I want it back. As I run a business, time is short. If you have ever seen a house being built from start to finish, this video may be interesting for you.

You have inspired me to the point where I am about to do the same here in california altought building codes and inspections are quite different. I am on the market for remote property currently, why would i spend 750k on a decent sized property with a house when I can buy a remote plot of land with power for 150k and build a house on my own for a similar amount to what you spent when time is not a major issue? Housing out here is insane. Thank you for your videos and the inspiration, you have potentially lowered my retirement age by 15 or more years.

I just found out you are the same man behind the RAW cnc I am now building. Slightly extended to 3000x1750mm. Just got the plates delivered (friend with waterjet made them out of stainless steel for me) Just saying, you are a great inspiration. A true renaissance man. Would love to offer you a drink sometime when I visit Sweden! (At least 3x a year)

Yes you are right. Planning is everything. I draw up everything to be done on the computer and make sure the material is in place.

Thanks, glad you like the videos. Fortunately, most of the comments are nice, but I notice that we live in tougher times and that many people are not feeling well. Some comments are justified but many are downright mean.

So inspiring! Thank you for sharing your journey. Few questions: 1. How much ~ would it cost if a construction company built it? 2. Is there anything you would do differently if you had to start over again? 3. What is the plan for heating the house? You have air to air heat pump and you mentioned a stove.

Just look at his day counter times whatever the day rate is for your local tradesman - im sure he also put in long days meaning a workday is 8h normally but his peobbaly longer so you have to add some days accordingly. Where I am about 1k adayper person. Labour alone is often up to 50% of the total cost. So double his cost plus land.

I live in the Netherlands and I am a carpenter. Due major migration and small land area and all regulations they make it imposible for low income to even buy a piece of land to build on. And dont get me started on houses that need heavy renovation. Those go away for crazy prices and are not afailable often.

A few questions/remarks: 1) No vapour barrier underneath the floor? That's a ventilated crawlspace though, right? 2) No continuous vapour barrier from the first floor to the second floor ceiling/walls? 3) When installing vertical siding it's common over here (in Estonia) to first place the vertical strips of wood and then the horizontal ones above - this guarantees water can drip down if it gets behind the siding and also there is enough airflow for it to dry out. 4) Running wires diagonally on the walls? Hmm... But I'm just nitpicking here. It's really impressive to do something like this on your own. Thanks for sharing!

I made a small mistake, the price of all windows and doors is 13000 USD/Eur, but the animation shows 1300 USD/EUR, but the total cost calculator is correct, only the price animation is wrong... I'll probably find more errors so I list them here :)

Impressive how little money you spent. As far as I know, building a house here in Finland easily costs double or triple what you spent. Well, maybe it could be done cheaper if you really know what you're doing and I don't, which is the very reason I ended up buying instead of building, even though I really wanted to build my own house. That was mostly why I started watching your videos in the first place. Cheers!

Great series, thank you for sharing it all with us! I've been thinking about the shear strength of the wall system. Normally, you'd fasten the OSB into the studs "stitching them up" with a high density of nails for high shear strength. In your system the OSB is attached to the studs indirectly through those thin horizontal wood strips. Doesn't that lower the shear strength of the walls enough to require some diagonal bracing?

Yes probably, but the house is so small. A two story house would be built differently.

You have really good skills as carpenter, I build a small house by myself last year, did many mistakes but overall I came out ok. I was looking for some Swedish builder to see how things are done there since and I'm happy I found you because I want to build a house very similar to the one you have build. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your skills. The wood you used for the roof and for the frame is 45x190 or 45x145?
