We were hired to set the trench boxes for this sewer tap. The hole was 20 foot deep and required to 10' x 4' trench boxes. We got it ready for the Plumber to take over. #ThomasConstructionTexas #SewerTap #TrenchBoxes

These guys are lucky to be working for you, because you don't take chances with them. I did utility spotting for my dad when I was just a kid. I don't know how he got away with it, union wise. It was a water line on a busy street just laden with cross utilities. I loved doing that job, and took it very seriously. It was only 4 to 5 ft. deep, but there was lots of strange old utilities that weren't marked, or showing on the plans. It ended up being pretty slow going. It was a lot of fun for a kid: tractors, traffic, noise, diesel smoke, etc.

Talking about trench safety while there's a guy in an excavator bucket 10 ft in the air with a saw😂😂that's definitely OSHA approved 😂😂😂😂

Nice, I did a lift station for a sewer and water treatment facility. At our maximum depth we reached 42 feet. Also dug over the top of a lot of lines as a spotter. I was super excited when I got sent to a company with a hydro excavator. It made finding utilities a lot easier.

42 feet that is deep. It's fun when it goes right

This is interesting. I have to dig a 4m trench for a sewer offset junction to go into my property. I see the trench box is fine for straddling the sewer main, but how do you then put your junction pipe in which is close to right angle off the main? The trench box is solid and blocks the way.

It's not cheap to comply with OSHA. But being safe is important😎
@thomasconstructiontexas Жыл бұрын
I would feel like crap if something happened to one of my guys. Safety is important.
@medolmshaoshasafetyman Жыл бұрын
Was this in compliance though? Over 20 foot depth, they would need a Registered Professional Engineer involved. Also, OSHA would cite the man in the bucket cutting the limbs at the beginning of the video as well as not wearing hard hats either would be just another citation.... sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but excavation and trenching is on OSHA's radar, so be prepared. And when you choose to put out a video, make sure a safety person vets it ahead of time! Just my thoughts, being a safety trainer.

@@medolmshaoshasafetyman lots of issues and citations for this video. The 10,000 he just made goes out the door with a willful violation. Once osha is on the job, he had better make sure his 300 logs are up to date, his training logs are up to date, his hazard assessment is up to date, etc...........

How much per day to rent those trench boxes?

I was not responsible for the rental of them. I would guess their cost is about 2000 a week for the two.

Either away from the trench or into a catch basin that isn't tied back into what you're working on.
@thomasconstructiontexas Жыл бұрын
As the comment below said into the catch basin. Thanks for watching.
