The CSI Effect had nothing to do with similar shows, but with how those shows, particularly CSI, influenced the public's understanding of how the science actually worked, to the point that criminal trials were being picked apart because the evidence wasn't as clear-cut as what they showed on TV. People actually believed that because shows like CSI could solve these seemingly complex crimes so quickly, that reality HAD to work the same way, and challenged the idea that real science in trials couldn't be as absolute.

Sorry to say you got one wrong. The very last one, the CSI effect, is actually the effect it had on people believing that forensics was a much more instantaneous process, allowing people to get answers from hours to days instead of the actual months it takes togo through DNA evidence and such.

I thought the Fuller House callouts were hilarious and actually served to recognize their time on the show in a silly way.

Whilst i didn't like the crew being introduced in The Office, that wasn't a 4th wall break...
@kurtlindner2 ай бұрын
Saved by the Bell doesn't belong here. What you describe IS NOT the CSI effect. The CSI effect is when a jury expects an unreal level of evidence in real cases, thereby unreasonably biasing them against prosecution. Though it was contentious among many people, there were enough instances, and the uproar large enough, many She-Hulk moments should have been on here whether you agree with them or not.
@ae_sko88Ай бұрын
That’s not what the CSI effect is either. The CSI effect was people believing evidence like DNA and fingerprinting and such could be Identified and solved cases in a matter of minutes not days or weeks or months and gave everyone an unrealistic expectation in the crime solving process.

How about “Northern Exposure” season 2 episode 6. (War and Peace) In the middle of a dual between two characters, the rest of the cast that is watching, suddenly face the camera and say that it makes no sense for the dual to continue, and they say that the television audience would never believe it. Then they say that they should just go on to the next scene.

A fourth wall break I hated was during the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Sarah Lance grabbing an alternate version of her crew because she promised her actual crew that they wouldn't do any more crossovers was just dumb. What was even worse was the fourth wall breaks coming from characters from shows that don't do fourth wall breaks. Hearing Diggle say "I am never letting my kids watch this show" just felt incredibly jarring.
@thetruesora2 ай бұрын
that wasn't the only time it happened either, legends of tomorrow had multiple mentions of referring to the crossovers (i think a few of them were done by Nate). then again those times were done in their own show where they embrace the wacky comic book shenanigans so it can get away with them there compared to the rest of the arrowverse where they try to have more of a sense of "grounded in their reality"
@DrakeDragonSpark2 ай бұрын
@@thetruesora Yeah, LoT quickly became a parody of itself after the first season, so it wasn't really that surprising to see them break the fourth wall. It was mostly when characters from Flash or Arrow it did that really bothered me because it was completely out of character for them.

I always thought that the fourth wall break in "Fuller House" was very disrespectful to the Olsen Twins. They've clearly moved on from their child star days, and they don't need to be shamed or pressured into returning. The iCarly revival was respectful towards Jennette McCurdy's decision not to return as Sam.

the she-hulk finale belongs here. they were building to an ending that felt like the logical endpoint of the villain plotline, and then forced a bunch of supporting characters into the scene for no reason all, just so she could stop the show, go into the real world, and track down a robot kevin feige to convince him to change the ending to a less satisfying one that she wants. and after all that they don't even show us the actual conclusion, only what happens after. it was so stupid it singlehandedly made me stop giving a shit about the mcu
