My first pistol was a Danish Army surplus M1946 FN BHP and I carried the BHP at a couple of companies in Iraq doing contracting. Loved them but ammo capacity and worn out mags and old guns made me get a G19 on the black market instead to carry when I could.

I haven’t been this excited about a new/old gun in a long time. I had a Belgian made hi power back in the 90’s. I traded it during the “wonder nine” craze. I’m still kicking myself for that trade. Haven’t had one since then. For some reason, when I saw this, I knew I had to have one. I’ve already ordered a bunch of magazines in anticipation of it.

Over 35 years ago when I started executive protection the bhp was the carry gun but it had to be tuned to feed jhp I am glad it’s back but I question the reason for bringing it back? What are your thoughts as to why?

35 years ago was Beretta, Sig Sauer (of West Germany) and still the venerable 1911. Glock was just getting its feet wet too. I’d say the BHP was far from 35 years ago with American “executive” protection. More like 45 years ago, if that. It was the Unicorn in American circles.

I wouldn't say "because America" in explaining the Hi Power's appeal. John Browning was American, true, but the finished gun is only partly his. He worked on the prototypes, and died in 1926, long before the finished gun hit the market. The final product is really more the work of his protégé at FN, Dieudonné Saive. Then the final pistol was adopted by lots of different armies around the world, but not by any branch of the US military. I'm sure the Browning connection is a large factor in its appeal, but not the whole explanation. It's just a really great gun, and the few things about it that people didn't like (e.g. hammer bite, too small safety lever, magazine safety) are things that Springfield Armory has corrected with this version. I'll buy one, once the initial feeding frenzy dies down.

Awesome video. The SA-35 frame and slide are both made from forged carbon steel. *There’s no MIM parts on the gun. -So says Springfield. I highly question their extractors as the early models (back when this video was made), were junk. I really think that they’re extractors were MIM and/or just soft mild steel. This is why I have a Cylinder & Slide spare tool steel extractor and also a BHSpring solutions extractor in my parts inventory. If and when I see that my SA-35 extractor is failing, I’ll replace it with one of the above. My SA-35 is in the high 18XXX range of serial numbers and I believe SA fixed their early teething issues with extraction failures.

You commented that the original HP's 13rd mag capacity wouldn't fly in today's capacity-crazed market, but don't you think there's value in the HP's grip being 1/2"-3/4" shorter than the 17rd guns? And, there are 15rd factory (Mec-Gar) HP mags that don't extend the length of the gun at all.

I always liked the shape and natural point of aim of the BHP, and thought it concealed well, I believe its a relevant design like the 1911, I would have no problem carrying one, but in my mind, it is hard to compete with the original Belgium Brownings like the Auto 5 and BHP, but modern sights and a DLC finish arent a bad thing ?

Mag base plates would be a seller. Nothing out there currently. I resorted to cutting down Beretta m92 mag base plates; they fit mag body precisely, but toe is way too long.

If you want a 10/8 sight for a BHP , my gunsmith fit a NM version to a MK2 fir me with no issue

Is this the first pistol manufactured by SA? The CZ clone you mentioned was an imported pistol from Italy and made by Tanfoglio. Their 1911s are assembled using imported parts, the slide and frame manufactured in Brazil. The small MIM parts from who knows where. The XD is a Croatian pistol. This BHP clone is “made” in the U.S.? For $700? Seems like it’s a bargain if true.

It’s meant as a retro reissue, no sane person thinks it’s a Glock replacement or anything modern at all.

Did we forget when Springfield and Rock River Arms, through their now-former lobbying outfit, the Illinois Firearms Manufacturer’s Association, traded their opposition to a Prairie State retailer licensing bill for an exemption to that law? This was back a few years ago, and they only changed their toon when their actions became public and they had to backpedal. Their sales have since been in to toilet that XDs were almost being given away by gun sites.

Did you forget when Bill Ruger was in favor of "reasonable" gun control, including limiting magazine capacity? Let this go already. Dennis Reese apologized, Springfield donates a ton of money to pro 2A organizations and the company makes fine firearms. Lots of us make mistakes, including me. They owned up and I've forgiven them.

Do not confuse your personal preferences with that of the rest of the gun buying public. Lots of people love the Hi Power and are happy to see it back in production at an affordable price, and with all the features people to took it gunsmiths for already incorporated.

Is this a joke? No Picatinny rail... No ambidextrous controls... No front slide serrations... No adjustable back strap... No loaded chamber indicator... No nitride finish? hammer fired... single action only. Why not bring back the Heilongjiang hand cannon?? It's a dinosaur. I'll stick with my Canik Mete and Armatix IP1. And how is this thing better than a CZ-75?
