The 48V is even more significant than a factor of 4. Power loss (over)heating of the wires is proportional to current squared, so reduced by a factor of 16.

I think the price is perfect. Why? The long wait list. As they catch up with demand, then lower prices. Hopefully, the actual production price is low enough to make a net operating profit within 12 months, and will fall from there.

I think you’re sorely mistaken. Elon blamed the price on inflation and if he really blamed it on inflation, he would’ve only raised the prices 20% and that’s what inflation is from four years ago. He may be a brilliant guy, but he’s also a snake oil salesman, and he is banking on the hype and in my opinion, that is bad business. He really should honor the prices that he bragged about four years ago and just adjust them for inflation. If you noticed, Elon said nothing about the price at the reveal event yesterday, which was really a cheap shot since he revolved his entire presentation four years ago around the prices, again, bad business.

Well. originally I was planning to purchase the Tri-motor version at 69K, but that is now the price for the Dual-motor, so I guess I will have to wait to see if by the time I get to my reservation, the Tri-motor would had dropped its price. In any case, my reservation # is 1.4 million plus, so it will take a couple of years at least!!!!

What I don't get is it costs $20,000 for 1 more motor. No extra battery, no other differences (aside from the extra torque / hp / quickness of the 3rd motor). That price difference doesn't add up at all to me. I thought I would be able to get a 500 mile range 3 motor CT. I definitely won't be at that price and specs.

Thanks for the report. CT is definitely a more advanced vehicle than was priced in 2019, so the additional cost isn't as far out of line as it seems at first glance. That said I had planned on getting the tri-motor, but will probably have to settle for a dual motor truck. Don't be too surprised if the number of trucks produces ramps up a little faster than expected. Update: Accepted an invitation from Tesla to put a deposit on a Foundation Series CT. Estimated delivery January to March. 😃

I think you completely missed the point of the range extender pack. This will be a quick-exchangable accessary at charging stations in the future, which means that you don't need to stay at the charging station for at least 30 minutes to recharge your truck. A robotic arm will grab your range extender pack, and then replace it with a fully-charged one in 10 seconds; and then you are ready to go.

Cybertruck as a 680 mile range hybrid - If we have 340m range from 123kWh in the specs that implies 2.76m/kWh. Driving at 68mph it takes 5 hrs to cover 340m. If you could fit the REX 647cc generator pack from a BMW i3 into the cubby under the rear truck bed, that 25kw electrical output would provide 125kWh so an additional ~340 miles if the generator were to be run continually for the 5 hrs, on those occasions when 340 miles is not enough.

Electric trucks in general undeniably come with a hefty price tag, making them seem like a luxury for the well-off. One major issue that continues to concern potential buyers is range anxiety, especially when dealing with substantial payloads or towing needs. It's crucial to recognize that a truck has traditionally been a reliable workhorse, offering more benefits than it consumes in terms of money and upkeep. In contrast, electric vehicles often feel more like the indulgent racing horses of the wealthy. While they have their place and advantages, they may never fully replace the trusty conventional gas trucks that have been the backbone of the industry for decades.

The pricing will come down eventually. The Model S went from about 130k to 90k over the last few years. My biggest disappointment is the lack of the 500-mile range. I certainly don't want an additional huge battery in the bed. Why not use that space under the truck bed for the battery pack? We reserved a tri motor with 500 miles but probably will settle for the dual motor. Hopefully we'll be able to buy a "boost" function down the road.

How does it drive? Is it practical as a pick-up truck? Is it reliable? How much does a wheel, a windshield or a bumped side panel repair cost? Which insurance companies are available, and how much do they cost? How do these answers compare with other electric pick-ups? These are really the priority answers we need. Techno stuff such as LED lights or 48V circuitry should come second. The video footage of the truck driving over a rocky terrain shows terrible suspensions. Because of the weight, maybe? Not sure if this footage is actually from the production or pre-production truck.

@@jamespaul2587 The internal battery is probably already at its maximum physical size. @@Khanfuzed1 Actually even the 340 mile range AWD is impractical for a pickup: .60 x 340 = 204, but then on top of that you lose a lot of range driving at freeway speeds (80 mph), and more if it's cold winter weather, and more with a heavy pay load, and way, way more if you're hauling a trailer, and more still as the battery degrades. All of these add up. You really need the 500+ miles of nominal range on a an electric pickup to make it practical in the real world.

Subsidy = MY tax money to help wealthier people afford things that I cannot.
@Widdermaker
@Widdermaker 8 ай бұрын
@@hugoknight1 $20 billion in annual US subsidies make gasoline much cheaper so people will use gas; and oil companies can make even more billions - even though it puts much carbon & pollution in the atmosphere. If you’re against gov’t subsidies, then I assume you want to get rid of ALL subsidies - including the billions that Uncle Sam has been handing out to the likes of Exxon and Shell over the decades. Without those subsidies, gas would cost over $10/gal. How would THAT affect your budget? Not to mention the increased cost effect that would have on freight and manufacturing, basically increasing the cost of everything! So, let’s level the playing field, okay? Also, if you can’t afford a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range, about $31,500 after the federal tax credit, with basically no ongoing maintenance costs and “fuel” (electricity) costing 1/8 what gas costs, well then your life really IS a sad, tragic story.

@@vulpo If you’re towing things all the time for long distances, then, yes, 250 miles is too little range. But 340 miles should be enough. Plus, with the 800 volt architecture, recharging at a Tesla Supercharger will be significantly faster, and blazingly fast with the new V4’s starting to be installed. PepsiCo is very pleased with the Tesla Semi’s performance in both range variants: 300 & 500 miles. Also, I’m not sure where the 60% rule is coming from? I’ve had 2 Model S’s over the years and charged them up to 90% nightly at home. My current 2016 Model S had a range of 315 miles when new. Currently, it still tops out at 294 miles when charged to 100%. After 8 years. And I drive it between MI and FL several times a year, many times I do it in less than 24 hours. Not towing anything, but the point being range loss is minimal even charging to 90% daily at home. And the Tesla Supercharger network is fantastic. And cheaper than gas,

here's some more details you may have missed According to a German TUV safety certification expert, the Tesla Cybertruck will require “strong modifications to the basic structure” before it can be sold in Europe 1. The Cybertruck is classified as a light-duty truck in the USA, which exempts it from many safety regulations, including for pedestrian safety. However, this is not the case in Europe, where the vehicle must comply with 50 to 60 different regulations 1. The front of the vehicle must not be stiff, and the bumper and bonnet must be able to absorb energy to protect pedestrians 1. The Cybertruck’s rolled stainless steel structure and panels are stiff and strong, which is great for resisting damage but less so for the occupants and unwitting pedestrians 1. Stefan Teller, an automotive expert at SGS-TUV Saar GmbH, outlined his concerns about the Cybertruck, stating that “nothing is deformed in the event of an impact. Instead, enormous forces act on the occupants. Airbags then no longer help”

Why would the range extender require special extraction equipment if CT suspension can be raised to say, “Extract mode”… then back up to a shelf or forks located at supercharger stations? Lower the suspension back down and leave the depleted one there to charge and grab a freshly charged one in no time. A rental “fleet” of extenders could be available wherever needed… and incentives provided to drop yours off where the most demand is. Make $ with your range extenders rented by others only when needed.. not permanently affixed.

Even better, a fuel cell running off LNG or propane (or even gasoline) would be about twice as efficient. Would also add some heat if needed in a cold environment. Last I looked into it there were a few companies working on residential fuel cells, and various refinements over the last twenty years have greatly reduced costs - but not sure if they are yet at the point where they could be made affordably for this use case.

Don’t think pricing is much of an issue. More than enough reservations to allow Tesla to sell every single vehicle they can make for years to come even at these price levels. People that want to be first will be willing to pay. It’s the same with all technology. The early adopters pay the R&D and ramp costs and the buyers a few years down the track get better pricing. Eventually CyberTruck might be the best selling truck in the world.

Judging from the picture, it is taking up almost half of the floor of the bed. I think they are saying 1/3 by calculating volumetrically, i.e., you still have space on top of the range extender that would fit beneath the tonneau cover. If you add a spare tire then you will have used up nearly all of the usable space on the floor of the bed (although you can still lay stuff on top of these).
