I felt the same way about Schindler's List. I saw it at the cinema when it came out , and once again many years later with my wife when i discovered she knew nothing of the holocaust ( she grew up in an asian country where the syllabus was very thin on world history). A superb movie but a harrowing experience.

My favorite Scorsese film is HUGO. It is a love letter to the movies and the best use of 3D tech I've ever seen.

As a huge pro wrestling fan in Texas, The Von Erich curse is a story i've known since childhood. I was sad to be unable to see the movie in theaters, I will be sad when I will watch the movie on streaming but it will be one I will see a few times despite the inaccuracies and streamlining the story. Like The Wrestler, I can see myself returning for the performances.

I loved The Iron Claw and if I do watch Saltburn again I’ll once again be distracted during the Oxford scenes, just cos I know someone who was there at the time and I’d still expect her to walk across the back of shot. It’s almost as bad as characters having the same name as people you know.
@ryanpetty88432 ай бұрын
The Iron Claw was good, but something seemed… off. I think it may be the choice of uncomfortable silence over places where there would normally be some sort of film score. Either that, or it was Zac Efron’s haircut being reminiscent of the Matt Damon puppet from Team America.
@bamabat84352 ай бұрын
Okay, so Scorsese's best film will always be one of the big 3, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver or Raging Bull. However, while my favorite changes from year to year, right now I'm kinda loving The Last Temptation of Christ.

Women Talking was a hugely gripping film, and the colour editing was done on purpose- the women in that community were robbed of a full, safe and free life

I didn’t watch it but the review in jacobin was rather unkind and pointed out how far the movie went away from the truth of the story it’s based on.

My friends and I snuck a load of beer into the cinema to watch it as we do with any long movie, so I kept getting up to pee every 40 mins or so (had a couple of smoke breaks too) which at least spared me your fate lol. I have no problem with long movies but they really need to reintroduce the concept of the intermission.

Women Talking is the only one of these that I have seen, but I would watch it again. It’s compelling, the characters are and actors are great, and it maintains a theme of hope throughout, and ending on a hopeful note. I would definitely watch it again to get someone who hadn’t seen it to watch it. (A friend recommended it to me). Might take a look at Society of the Show, but none of the others interested me 🤷♀️

Beau is Afraid is an absurdist masterpiece, and i've watched it at LEAST 5 times already. And after i watched the Killer, i IMMEDIATELY restarted it. Fincher makes ultra stylized and rewatchable films. The Killer might not be as rewatchable as some of his others, but i've watched it 4-5 times too. Oh, and i HATED The Whale. And i'm a big Darrren Aron fan.

Better than watching mcu 💩 about diversity and representation
@oliverholmes-gunning53722 ай бұрын
Those grounds exclude you from watching most of the best films ever made. A-holes (especially complex, morally grey a-holes) always make the most interesting characters- who wants to watch a movie about a charity worker for two hours? Also saying you hate his characters is not the same as saying you hate his directing style. I also hate a lot of Scorsese's characters, but he's still one of my all-time favourite filmmakers.
