Nickelback is a Canadian rock band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta.
Five Finger Death Punch, also abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2005.
Godsmack is an American rock band from Lawrence, Massachusetts, formed in 1995.
Memphis May Fire is an American metalcore band formed in Denton, Texas and currently signed to Rise Records.
Hollywood Undead is an American rap rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2005.
Seether are a South African rock band founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa.
Three Days Grace is a Canadian rock band formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1992 originally as "Groundswell" and played in various local Norwood backyard parties and area establishments before disbanding in 1995 and regrouping in 1997.
3 Doors Down is an American rock band from Escatawpa, Mississippi, formed in 1996.
Red (stylized as R3D or RED) is an American Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2002 by brothers guitarist Anthony Armstrong and bassist Randy Armstrong, with lead vocalist Michael Barnes.
Breaking Benjamin is an American rock band from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, formed in 1999 by lead singer and guitarist Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel.

Man didn't even fact check that Seether didn't debut in 2022, but rather 2002. I get editing is hard, but camcorder buzz is the least of your problems when you can't even be bothered to re-record a line.

@@vegetasasuke0 yeah the quality of Luke's video has been slipping for a bit(really miss Regretting the Past and hope it comes back)and this video is overall pretty weak as most of these bands are pretty damn good(especially BB, FFDP, Seether, Three Days Grace, Hollywood Undead, and Godsmack and #1 is a weak pick as the whole "Nickelback sux!" meme is getting really old, outdated and tiresome by this point and there are so much worse bands that sound samey like Maroon 5, Twenty One Pilots and Imagine Dragons.

It hurt to see Breaking Benjamin on this list, but I will admit that they do use a formula: intro, chill verse, punchy chorus, chill verse, punchy chorus, bridge/solo/breakdown, punchy chorus, outro. Honestly, it works for me. They're one of my favorite bands of all time.

Remember people, and this is coming from a Breaking Benjamin fanboy, you don't need to tell KZfaqrs they suck or have to die just because they don't like the same things you do. I love the band, but I can admit, you listen to enough of their music, you'll hear a formula they've relied on since Saturate, so I can see where criticism comes from. I pretty much agree with the rest of the list for sure, especially Five Finger Death Punch. P.S. Here's to a speedy recovery for Gretchen. Get well soon, Gretchen! ❤️

As A Former Massive BB Fangirl, I Definitely Agreed With Most Of The Criticism That The Dude Threw At Them As Much As I Disagreed With It At The Same Time. Does That Make Me Want To Send Threats Or Any Form If Hatred? No, Because Everyone Is Entitled To Their Own Opinions & No One’s Opinion Is Truth! But Sadly, Many Metalheads Can’t See It That Way. If It Wasn’t For BB And Memphis May Fire, I Would Have Never Gotten Into Metalcore & Hardcore, Which Along With Drum N’ Bass Are The Genres I Usually Listen To These Days! I May Have Stopped Listening To BB On A Daily, Weekly, & Monthly Basis But Does That Mean I Should Feel The Need To Pretend I Don’t Like Them Or Shit On Them? Not At All! They Helped Through Some Dark Points In My Life, And I’ve Seen Them 5 Times! The Last Time As A VIP & Front Row In An 800-Seat Theatre!

I love Breaking Benjamin, they are great, I just lost respect for phobia, because every album post phobia just follows that exact same formula. it makes me appreciate saturate and we are not alone a lot more. Saturate just sounds more raw, which I love. I wish saturate got more appreciation by Breaking Benjamin fans, instead everyone just prefers phobia a lot more

I like how the term 'Dad Rock' evolves to cover the music of who would be a dad at the time. When I was growing up, it applied to late 70's arena rock. Now it covers early 2000's radio rock. I just find it funny.

Dad rock doesn’t necessarily have to be old music, it just has to sound old. I’d consider Greta Van Fleet a dad rock band and they only formed about a decade ago.

Can't blame Red for not wanting to change their sound. Christian (any music genre) listeners despise any change. I remember WAY the heck back when Amy Grant changed to be more "pop" and you'd have thought she "un-alived" Jesus himself, to way people were talking.

I agree. A few other Christian bands that changed their sound too much for the mainstream radio was Disciple and Thousand Foot Crutch. I saw them in concert like 10 years ago and they were heavy and had a great sound. A few years later I heard them on the radio (two separate occasions) and they were so mainstream it was like a completely diff band

If you think about it, originally paramore (though not a Christian band per say, but definitely a Christian themed band) had stong religious themes in their music but as soon as they started shifting their genres around the brand new eyes era they lost a lot of those faith heavy listeners, and as they traveled further and further away from pop punk the more and more secular their music and seemingly even the member became. Not sure if that's a coincidence or a direct correlation.

Skillet have gotten repetitive in recent years: John growls something about how the power of God means he won't give in to the "sheeple", Jen sings the same line worded differently, rinse and repeat. Also, I hope Gretchen's on the mend.

I absolutely love Seethers newest album just because how they werent scared to go very heavy something about heavy-grunge just fits the bill for me, and even though looking back on it some their stuff is very similar sounding to one another, i still cant help but remember how many amazing songs theyve made, most of them coming from their last album and their latest EP for me, i feel their change has come mostly in getting progressively just more heavier in general, outside of disclaimer 2

Personally I don’t think a band is bad because they don’t change their sound. Sometimes the consistency is enough for some people rather than their favorite bands risking the chance of changing for the worst. Yeah some bands could spice it up a bit but there’s nothing wrong with them doing what they do best. Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band but even I admit that DBD and Ember aren’t albums I listen to all the time.

Somehow AC/DC have still been going strong, despite the only major change being a singer change that 50% of "fans" didn't even notice. As in the fans who enjoy a lot of songs, but didn't go down the rabbit hole

It's better that bands keep their sound because usually when they change they go to shit and that's what happens to alot of these butt rock bands.

Music fans are fickle. If bands DO change their sound, it's "aw, man they changed, it's not as heavy, they sold out." But if they churn out bangers that sound similar, people complain that it's all the same.

I like a good amount of the bands on this list, strong emphasis on "like." You give me a lineup of Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin and Seether for a summer concert, I'm there. It's just good, reliable rock I can go watch with a bunch of other dads. If they come on the radio, I'm turning them up and singing along. All of that said, it's just very standard rock mostly and I have very little emotional connection to most of it. FFDP sucks though, always have and always will.

As a HUGE Seether fan, I do definitely agree that their sound hasn’t changed much. Especially when Dead & Done/Stoke The Fire sound like a copy paste. Will always love Seether though, so I will still support them despite that. (Just hope they actually change their sound a little bit eventually)

@MaMusical Death. I’m also a fan of Seether but I only like Disclaimer 2 and Karma And Effect Era, and what they’ve been doing is just a softer version of what they were. Every time i hear a new Seether song I’m hoping it’s similar to what would be on Disclaimer 2 or Karma And Effect and it never is.

Breaking Benjamin’s sophomore album was a great example of diversity. Simple design and forget it had key/tempo changes that made the build and release work. As a fan it sucks to admit a lot of those build ups went after phobia. But I can only feel for bands as rock radio and streaming isn’t as patient as past times let them be ❤️.

The deeper cuts on that album (Simple Design, Firefly, Away, for example) are really good. And I agree that there was definitely some diverse stuff there. Forget It and Believe are kind of different from everything else, in my opinion.

I feel like that was probably a Billy thing, since BB has pretty much never done anything like that before or since.

Ben Folds is a phenomenal singer, songwriter, and pianist. His wit and sarcasm are nearly unmatched IMO. I saw him live last year, and it was an incredible experience. It was just Ben and his piano.

I'm saying this as someone who loves Godsmacks first 3 albums. Whats I can definitely hear a same-o style as the years go on. And I still like some music coming later, I enjoy Saints and Sinners. I really want them to do something unique for their last album, I like their sound and want to enjoy them again.

I have been a fan of Three Doors Down for as long as I can remember but I definitely can understand why they're on this list as a lot of their stuff can sound the same as time goes on.

Breaking Benjamin is one of my top 5 fave bands of all time, but I can admit they've stayed consistent with their sound since Phobia. Saturate and We Are Not Alone were much rawer and experimental albums. But I still don't think they've ever released a downright 'bad' album or song.

I must admit, I pretty much love every band on this list, and still listen to them today. I don’t find anything wrong with the “same old, same old” formula, as long as you understand that’s what you’re getting going in. I’m currently listening to Disturbed’s new album, and it is definitely a Disturbed album, but I’m enjoying it nonetheless. Music is about having fun, not reinventing the wheel…at least for me.

I love Three Doors Down, Three Days Grace, and Breaking Benjamin, soundtrack to my high school and college years, and I still like listening to them today. But you're spot on. They all have exactly one sound and never deviate. And post-Adam TDG is just sad.

3DG is one of my favorite bands solely for their first 4 albums with Adam. Matt had his moments, but i have to agree that their music since Adam left hasn't been anything noteworthy outside of a few songs

SUPER HUGE FAN OF BB RIGHT HERE!!!! I love them like crazy, but even I will admit I would love to see them break out the box a little bit. I know Ben Burnley and company have it in them. Also, on Red, I really love them too, but I understand that also. Heck I still think Red’s holding up better than Skillet these days.

just another breaking benjamin fan here to say that even though i love almost all of their stuff (particularly embers, their most recent), i do agree with what you said about them. the lyrics always seem to be a bit of an afterthought.

Surprised Disturbed didn't make the list. ama nama ama nama. 😄 Also while Godsmack didn't change that much they did get more radio friendly. I remember at first they were said to be a Alice In Chains rip off then they got heavier then they got softer and softer and got even more of a radio sound.

Godsmack, 3DG, Seether are the bands I like to listen to since their first days exactly because of the fact that they never change their sound. Also, I'm pretty sure that you missed Disturbed and Shinedown on this list.

I don't know if you could really apply that to disturbed. Their early stuff was definitely more of the nu metal variety, then it filtered to hard rock with the last few albums bordering on the operatic side. 10,000 fists (the whole album) sounded identical on every song though.

I work in Youth ministry and have done so for almost 15 years. I totally agree about Red! The sound is the same from the first Christian rock concerts I went to back in the early 2000s. At this point, it seems formulaic rather than creative.

I agree that Seether discography is pretty much the same. But to me it's consistently good, the singles for the last few albums have the same general sounds but to me it's good. I wasn't surprised to see them on the list but think they deserve more credit for having the same sound but being consistent with it.

I remember a few years back, a local DJ was talking about 3DD’s new album. Said he had a “preview track”… which was “Here Without You”. I LMFAO; he was implying the new album would sound the same! Also, I noticed the pattern with BB after “Dark Before Dawn”. Sounded almost like “Dear Agony”, which sounded like “Phobia”…. I listen to those earlier albums, but nothing after; I already have them, in a sense!

Seether changed something over the years. Experimented a litte on albums, but main songs are the same I agree. Godsmack....maybe are the same overall but they were much heavier when they started. FFDP, for me the end came with Got Your 6 album. After that....I don't know if I listed randomly songs from last 3 albums I wouldn't know which song belongs on which album. They did their best on The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1 and after that it went down the hill. I really liked them 8 years ago. Three Days Grace changed a lot even with Adam....After I didn't care anymore.

I still think Godsmack are still solid, although their first three or four albums are the best. I do wish they would experiment some since they’re very talented and have a lot of good influences. FFDP I really liked their first 2 albums, American capitalist was hit or miss, The Wrong Side of Heaven albums were really good, and then they lost me a bit with get Your six. And Justice for none had a couple decent songs and F8 was surprisingly solid. The newest album was completely forgettable.

Red already tried changing their sound a bit with "Release the Panic" and most people weren't crazy about it. Many saw "Of Beauty and Rage" as a kind of return to form and that album did very well. Even if some people may feel this way, they're still one of my favorite bands (as they are to plenty of others) and depending on what they might do in future, I personally think they've done better than most other bands. And as far Breaking Benjamin goes, I did enjoy "Dark Before Dawn", though "Ember" didn't really do much for me, it was pretty good overall.

RED did attempt to change it up, but both times they caught flack (especially for Release The Panic which was a huge change from the first 3 albums and was poorly mixed to boot), hence it's no surprise the most recent album sounds very similar to the first.

I'm still stunned from finding out that Tool originated from Green Jelly and I've been a huge fan of Tool since forever. I know more of these bands as a photog than a straight-up music fan. Three Days Grace is a lot of fun live. Breaking Benjamin is my "Lucy holding the football" - I keep saying "never again" because I'm always mad about my results, but then they announce tour line-ups that draw me back to try again. Very particular point of view, I know, but I have a feeling there's at least one person here that will know what I'm talking about!

I feel as if Black Veil Brides is another excellent example of this I do think they're talented and I do still enjoy some songs. But despite that, most albums and songs are the same (except for a few songs). And I believe the reason for that is because of Andy Biersack or their label. The other members of the band are very versatile and talented and I feel as if they wish to branch out with their sound, lyrics, and themes. But because Andy is the face of the band, they cannot

Hollywood Undead - I had a friend that was obsessed with them at one point, Needless to say that bridge crashed and burned in a fiery explosion (Not because of it, But I did get really irritated with her obsession regardless) Seether - This one's tough, To me Seether is one of those bands that have changed a bit sonically, While also still keeping a lot of the same tropes and vocal melodies present in the earlier releases. Every Seether song "Sounds the same" on the surface thanks to Shaun Morgan's vocals and the genre style, But if you looked further into the catalogue you'd be able to find differences between most of their albums. The same can be said for other Post-Grunge bands like Puddle Of Mudd for instance, Wes' vocal melodies sound the same on every release, But the music itself varies. Three Days Grace - Outside of the vocals, I'd have to agree. 3 Doors Down - I don't follow what they're up to these days, So idk if they've changed or not. Red - Not familiar enough Breaking Benjamin - Yeah, I agree 100%, Everything I've heard from them post-2000's sounds like retreads of their old stuff. Memphis May Fire - Not familiar Godsmack - No, They've undeniably changed their sound over the years. While yes, They still have a lot of the same tropes and melodies that carry from album to album, Nothing they've released since Faceless has sounded the same sonically. IV is a blues based hard rock album, The Oracle is an aggressive hard rock album, 1000HP is a lighter version of The Oracle, And When Legends Rise is one of the most commercial sounding hard rock albums I've ever heard. The only similarities that the later Godsmack albums have to the early ones are the guitar solos, And adlibs from Sully. Everything else is different for the most part. Five Finger Death Punch - I don't know if they've changed, More so that they just got worse overtime. Nickelback - Their sound technically did change, The State and Silver Side Up are much heavier than the later releases, But I can understand why people say they didn't since Nickelback likes to rehash the same exact melodies over and over and over, They sound the same because they quite literally do the same thing on every album.

I’ve seen BB live more than any other band. I absolutely love their sound, and I’m fine with them not changing. I’m fine with Godsmack not changing. Though they certainly phone it in live, and that disappointing. BB is always great live.

I saw BB live a few years back during an unplugged tour they did. Was a great show and would love to see them again. I saw them when they were promoting the album with Angel's fall and failure on it. Was awesome.

An example of why some bands and musicians may not want to try something other than the "formula".... Stryper changed their format from Christian rock/metal to something more mainstream back in 1990 with Against the Law. Fans went nuts and didn't really care for it. I thought it was some of their best work to date, and it was nice to hear them doing something other than Christian music. They went back to their old style after that and getting tons of flack from their long time fans.

I gotta agree with Breaking Benjamin, and I'm a huge fan of BB. The biggest issue is that BB is just Ben since he has full control of every thing that the band does. He sued and fired his former bandmates because they made a "greatest hits" album without his consent and the remixed version of "blow me away" pissed Ben off that he stopped making music because he refused to work with anyone at the time. Even his new bandmates are there to follow Ben's lead now. His consistent sound has held him back for so long.

I honestly agree with FFDP, like the musicianship is good on some songs like Hard to See (I didn't mind their cover of Bad Company, I love the original song so I thought their cover was pretty cool) but I can understand your reasoning. On a side note I hope that Gretchen is doing alright and here's to a fast and healthy recovery for her

I feel the same way with FFDP. For me the first two albums were good. They were raw (especially with the drum production on the first album), they did show the band are good musicians, Ivan did show his vocal abilities a bit more, and yes…the Bad Company cover was good. After those two albums, their albums become hit or miss for a consistent album and their schtick to do covers on every album (especially when the production is done by the same guy. Kevin Churko does have some damn fine albums, but his production is very noticeable with drums and chug a lug guitars).

I love Seether to bits, but you're 100% right. They've been cruising along in a neutral autopilot since _Disclaimer. Karma and Effect_ tried to rock the boat a little bit, though. I would like to hope that a new album coming down the pipeline starts to play around with something a little more experimental. I know me and a lot of other fans would eat it up.

I used to be a hardcore Seether fan in high school and college but yeah they haven't changed at all. I remember Shaun saying and their last album that they were "inspired" by A Perfect Circle and I couldn't hear it at all. It just sounded like their last 3 albums.

A lot of these bands fit their era phenomenally! However they forget that their audience got older and whilst some still enjoyed their hits, they enjoyed them nostalgically. You’re aiming your music at a group that has aged out of you or aiming your music at an audience too young to care for their “dad’s music”.

This channel has a very warped perception of Godsmack. Godsmack has always changed their sound. First album: 90's nu metal Second album: a more dark themed more streamlined version of the first album. Third album: spiritual themed heavy metal that keeps some of the traditional Godsmack dna of the previous two while being the first to start experimenting. Fourth album: full on blues rock all the way. The most unique in the discography. Fifth album: aggressive in your face hard rock. Sixth album: this one is the most safe out of the discography but I still love it god damnit. It's the meat and potatoes album. Everything you expect is there with just enough new to keep it interesting. Sixth album: modern day radio metal by Godsmack. I understand why others might not like it but I do a lot. I think it's their take on the current sound of rock and metal radio stations done right. Of course we can't judge the one coming up but I dig it. Surrender is an evolution of the When Legends Rise sound with some old school grit sprinkled in the vocals and You & I had some bluesy guitar tones that remind me of IV.

@Rocked I adore 3 Doors Down (and they are actually really nice guys; I’ve met them a couple times), enjoyed Hollywood Undead (though in my defense, I’m new to them) and I like Seether and seen them live (and also met 2 of them), but… You’re absolutely right!! Seether does sound very similar, as does 3 Doors Down, even after 20 something plus years. Even being new to Hollywood Undead, I can tell it’s a lot of “who are we going to sleep with, let’s party, and who can we beat up for disrespecting us” kind of thing. My introduction to them though, was touring with Papa Roach recently, and the energy of the band and crowd was what hooked me. I had a lot of fun!!! That being said, you are ALWAYS right about Nickelback, because they really do freaking SUCK!!! They belong in the Triforce of Suckage!!! But you did forget Nickelback Light…er, I mean Theory…yuck!! As a dishonorable mention, Kid Rock (except he is not a band…or a rapper…or a good human…) I would also say Trapt, but to be fair, I would actually have to listen to more garbage from Trash Bag Brown, and that will NEVER happen EVER. I know I’m not the only person who likes a lot of the list and agrees with you, but you’re not. Not everyone who agrees is a hater! I have actually met some of the people on the list! The haters are just more fun! As a last side note, one of the two times I have seen Seether was when they opened for 3 Doors Down a couple summers ago…

The last Seether album I listened to was Isolate and Medicate and I didn’t enjoy it. That’s when I noticed how formulaic the sound was. I have the next two albums but I’ve never gotten around to listening to them. Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray and Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces are their best two albums with the later being their best in my opinion. 😃

I'll be honest, I enjoyed the new Memphis May Fire album... ...likely because it's my first exposure to the band. While my feelings on the album have dulled a little over the course of the year, other Metalcore releases have overshadowed it to the point where it feels lukewarm in retrospect. Not terrible, but not shining as brightly as other acts, Good list all the same :)

I know that this is going off-tangent, but I would love to see you do a video listing off a few highly recommended non-English-singing rock bands. I just discovered one recently that you should DEFINITELY check out…Héroes Del Silencio from Spain 🇪🇸. They’d put out such an incredibly beautiful, raw, emotionally-charged discography in such a short period of time (they formed in 1984 and broke up in 1996). They also have a Netflix documentary that’s worth watching (with subtitles, of course). Saw FFDP when Megadeth opened for them this year. I went for Megadeth but figured i spent money on the ticket, I’ll watch FFDP. They were okay. There’s definitely a huge fan base for the band so I don’t imagine they’re going away anytime soon.

BB is and probably will forever be one of my absolute favorites. Yeah.. they haven’t changed their sound over the years. But this is one rare example where I don’t mind it. But I totally agree with what you said. And now 3DG: Since Adam left I haven’t heard any newer song from them. One-X and Life Starts Now are their best albums.

Regarding Seether, I find it strange, because Poison the Parish was actually genuinely good. So you'd think they would know how to do it. If you like Seether, that's an enjoyable album. I hadn't listened to them in awhile when that album came out, and I was surprised to hear them get back on track. Only for the next album to be bafflingly bad. Like, what happened? They were good again for one album and went right back to being terrible. It's bizarre.

I will say this as a fan of these bands but here is my opinions of each of them Hollywood undead their rap stuff is ok but i like their rock songs more i think songs like WE ARE and Day Of The Dead and Gravity are awesome (also the former member Da Kurlzz made an awesome solo song) Seether i will say this i do like most of their stuff but i can see how it can drone on and become annoying for some people but i still enjoy them 3 days grace i did vote for this one in the community and i do like their stuff with Matt but their latest album sounds too much like outsider i do think each album has good songs except this latest album it feels like they just recycled outsider i think Adam was the most creative of the band his new band saint asonia is awesome in my opinion 3 doors down i think since they were very big out of the gate they probably think keeping that sound will keep them big plus they aren't bad they are just ok RED i never really listen to them so i can't really say anything about them Breaking Benjamin i love them i think they are awesome and they do try but i can see how people may not like them just seeing them as whiny emo rock Memphis May Fire they are an ok metalcore band not the worst though plus i really haven't listened to them Godsmack i like some of there songs they are just ok not the worst band but just ok i don't hate them but i wouldn't call myself a fan either Five Finger Death Punch i think they are ok i have seen them live a few times and there live shows are great but they do need to try to move out of their comfort zone Nickleback i think they have ok songs i would like them to do something different but i think Chad is their biggest problem he insults other artists so the whole band gets shit but it's only 1 member that's the problem

With Hollywood Undead, I completely agree with you. Them keeping that sound hasn’t worked for them. Seether I’ll disagree because it’s still very accessible but the writing is usually solid. Three Days Grace I’ll partially agree. Writing has went downhill but they still have some decent hits. 3 Doors Down I put in the same category as Seether. Very accessible but good writing. Red I’ll agree completely. Breaking Benjamin has waned in quality a bit but I still think they hold up as one of the greats. They play headlining sets at festivals now. I can agree completely with Memphis May Fire. Way too much of the same thing. I agree with you on Godsmack kinda. The When Legends Rise album was actually an okay change. It wasn’t as “I’m a badass” as their old stuff. Five Finger I completely agree. They fell off after album 3. Nickelback I certainly agree but with the same as Three Days Grace. I still like some of the hits over the years. San Quentin was actually kinda good. Reminiscent of the first 2 albums
