@@CharlesBerthoud Since I tend to do orchestral gigs, I travel with my bass, a music stand, and even a stool. It's not bad, I can get places in one trip. So I guess maybe a smaller instrument would be easier, but I've tried the flute. I definitely did not have a good time 😅

I played a viola in grade school. I also played a violin. I couldn't have told you what the difference was. From a playing perspective at that level (and tuning, I guess? - I don't even know if they're usually tuned remarkably differently) they were the same.

the composition reminds me of Vulf and Cory Wong in equal parts - 1612 and The Optimist respectively progression (at least at the start) is very 1612-y and the end of 6 and 9 both feel like they're right out of The Optimist in progression, melody, the background octave riff, to name a few (and i think that's awesome - i love those tunes, and regardless of whether the inclusion is an intentional reference or subliminal recreation it's neat) you and vulf are both huge reasons as for why i picked up the bass two years ago, and now it's become a pretty substantial part of my life! i've loved what you've been able to show so far and i hope to see even more in future c:

Hey Charles! Honestly I'm in love with your tapping style and overall sound. As someone who's recently finished up a bass course (Beginner 2 Badass with Josh Fossgreen) I find it best to learn through his sort of curriculum/teaching style; outside of that much of my learning comes from playing along with track-driven tabs until I get the rhythms and notes right. Other times I'll cover one of the beats I made or pretend I'm a rhythm guitarist with my multi-effects processor pedal thing. Drum loops are also really fun for me as well, and I have played at church as the "synth bass" twice. Still, I think I could benefit from that curriculum thing like Josh's course, and it's not like there's an intermediate 2 badass one yet. If not a course, perhaps there's a guide of some sort on learning more advanced techniques (I vaguely remember you showing one in one of your videos but I forget). Anything you can recommend (in particular for someone who's only bass time is during weekends :/ ) would be stupendous! No rush, just thought I'd ask 😅 I think having a course gives me those crucial goals, the "what are you going to work on today, how will you work on it, etc" type of goals and without such a fixated system I'm afraid of having very little to no progress. Anyways, that's all I had to say. Stay amazing! :)

Then 1980ish my younger brother turned me on to "Japan" (the band, I had already spent a year in the country) Mick Karns playing was unlike anything I'd ever heard...in a good way. I remember you playing a fretless and surely have been asked about the Mick Karn bass lines from Japan... if you want to address it that'd be cool, if not keep up the great work as I've brought a lot of people over to bass because of your channel.
