I agree on the female Bettas. They are much more colorful now then they used to be in the hobby. I think they are as colorful as the males now days.

kufujitsu no you can’t put 1 male with many female. They will bite each other till death and all the female will turn aggressive to other females.

I have a beautiful little female beta. When I got her she was just a little baby and she was all peach (I had no idea what color she was going to turn!) she has been alive for over a year now and she is a pretty purple blue with gorgeous indigo fins

5g might be a bit too small for pea puffers. My personal experience with them is that they actually need a lot of space to move around - to satisfy their curiosity.

@@dingzhuxi That and they aren't really a community fish which I think is the point of this video. Almost all the fish mentioned can belong in the same tank happily provided the water parameters and temp are met.

Josh Ding they do fine in 5g as long as you have a nice planted tank or lots of things to explore. They can live in as small as 3. Aquarium Co-Op has a few videos on them.

I didn't know female bettas are that colorful. Some of them look almost like salt water fish. I have to get some fr my twenty gallon tank.

Oh yes. Go to the pet store and spend just a few more bucks than what you think you should spend (some are $1 but look like saltwater fish but like a $7 one is colorful) keep them right and they’ll be beautiful.

Snails are awesome! Me and my mom put together a 5gal betta tank but the snails quickly became our favorites

Listening to this video while watching my two little female guppies (possibly half endler) swim around in my 5 gallon bow front. So entertaining and rewarding. That tank may be small but it’s one of my favorites.

They are called Endler's livebearer, as in HIS fish, as he discovered them (or rather, rediscovered them...) Guy 1: Who's livebearers are these? John Endler: They are mine! i too have a very soft spot for female bettas 😅❤️ most underrated fish despite how popular bettas are. in the right tank conditions, a female betta is just as breathtaking as a male!

Definitely!!! I have a little girl in a 3.5 gallon bow front, and she’s doing great. She’s a beautiful silky looking red, and her colors really pop against the black rocks!!! I have a albino Corydora in with her, and they get along fine.

if you have room for 5g tank, you should consider finding some more for a 10g. you wont regret it.

@@danielluo8554 i think they mean that the tanks of these dimensions have similar foot prints. my 10 gallon is not that much larger than a five gallon. the only thing i could do with the lost space is maybe have a few random pencils or a few more inches in width for random stuff? even then there is always a spot for random stuff. basically most standard breeder rectangle tanks under 20 gallons have very similar footprints and don't take up an absurd amount of space

Regular feeder minnows make great pets for small tank. Although about 1/2 will die due to them being mistreated as feeders, it's worth it. They're usually about 20 cents each! From my experience, even stuff smaller than 5 gallons can work. Although I recommend 5-10 gallons. They need filtration and although are marketing as "cold-water fish", I found that they thrive and only breed in warmer waters. I recommend keeping about 8 in a 5 gallon tank. They usually get about 1-2 inches, depending on the gender. They breed often and easily. I also recommend filling the tank with plants and hides, but still leaving space to swim. They are pretty active and cute. If you look in the wild, they often huddle real close to eachother in big groups. They have also done well with my betta. Overall a great fish.

I love the female Bettas, when I’m done breeding guppies in my 10 gallon I plan on making that a sorority. For now my 5 gallon is the tank for baby guppies when they get big enough that I need to separate them from the parents to avoid any interbreeding.

2:14 i have red cherry shrimp to , i feed them with frozen red mosquito larvaes, they are love them and the coloring on the shrimp after eating is gorgeous 🍁🐠

I absolutely love female bettas. Thank you for giving them notice. I was told that you shouldn't keep female bettas together unless you have a large tank. Is that not true?

Females need atLEAST 15 gallons if kept together and should be kept in numbers of 5-7. They can be just as aggressive as the males and should have enough room to establish territory. The tank should always be widers than it is tall due to bettas being labyrinth fish.

My boyfriend got me some new fish at the store the other day and one was a second male Betta and the lady at the store didnt want to sell him it she said "I see you got a betta you shouldn't put that with those other ones it will kill them" and he was like "uhh we have been keeping one in a community tank for months" and the lady was shocked. So I wouldn't trust what people say about bettas they do have personality and it depends some are more agressive than others. My old betta Henry was too agressive so we had to put my other one named Berry because he's way more chill.

Loved the double betta spots on this list. I know they're the same fish but males and females are so different! I've got 2 of my 4 in 5 gals and the other 2 in a couple 10 gals. HOPEFULLY on of my bettas will go in my 20 long soon with some neon tetras, but the tank has to finish cycling first. Loved the video, and cant wait for next week!

You mention at the end Endlers and a Betta, my Betta killed one and continued to hunt the remaining Endlers in my tank. I've found with 5 gallon if anybody gets territorial then there is very little space to run for the tankmates. Learning this the hard way with Sparkling Gourami.

I have one female betta and she’s amazing. I nicknamed her Denim, since she looks it. Very nice blue color. She was a $2.99 assorted betta from Petco. She’s grown so big and she’s got a great personality. I wish I could get more since I think they’re so overlooked. What size tank would you suggest for a sorority? Did you get yours all really small or can you add some in as adults?

I’ve got a 20 gallon long with Shrimp, ember tetras, some CPDs, a betta, and a whole group of endlers. Sounds like a lot but it’s a decently planted tank, with frequent water changes so everyone gets along and my parameters stay right where they should.

I love my Endlers! I have 6 in a 10g at the moment. I might add a couple more in the future. They have a couple of Amanos as tank mates.

@@ralchee7850 My Amanos don't really hide a lot, they just eat under things. ;) But the Endlers and the Amanos have no trouble together at all. I have 2 ancient Endlers left and I have about 15 each Cherry Shrimp and Amanos at the moment. The worst I have to deal with is the Amanos going around and punching the Cherry shrimp to take food from them. So I spread the food around a LOT. :)

I like white cloud minnows, they can thrive in very cold temperatures and stay small. The poor man's cardinal tetra. I like the standard ones better than the golden, and the long fin variety are stunning.

They cost about the same by me for some reason. They are wonderful fish I personally find them prettier than cardinal and neon tetras.

While you can totally keep shrimp in a 5 gallon.. up to a dozen? I'm a little shocked at that-- unless you manage to get all of one sex or they're amanos. I started with 9 red neocaridina in my 10 gallon, (my first shrimp ever, got them in April or May of this year) & a few months later, there's hundreds of shrimplettes.. some of which have already gotten big enough that they're now carrying their own babies, lol. Their numbers increase so fast that I had to start putting them into other tanks.. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have started them in the 15 gallon.

@@kayb8513 I just don't know how that would last beyond a year.. I've had to start moving mine as they've so overcrowded the 10 gallon that I've had deaths now (& they're not having as many babies-- likely because I have to do 2 pwcs a week just to keep nitrates below 40ppm) but the ones I put in the 15 are already starting to look better/berry again. Shrimp have a low bio-load, but you quickly go from 9 shrimp to 250.. & 250 shrimp poop a lot.

I have 2 nerite snails 5 CPDS and over 10 shrimp in my 4 gallon tank all doing great.....ammonia nitrites and nitrates all at 0 due to how heavily planted the tank is.....dont even need to do water changes ever

I'm planning to get my first aquarium. I'm a total beginner. I'm considering 5gallon aquarium kit. Im planning 5 guppies or 5 tetras, 5 minows or 5 rasboras and 3 corydoras. So total of 13 fish. I'd love to add more of these if its good for the fish. Should I?? Does it sound ok? Im open to any changes/suggestions to my list.

They are called endler livebearers because they are so proficient breeders an have among the highest rate of hybridnizing with other guppie species

I have a gorgeous female koi betta that’s light red with dark red splashes and has white on her belly.She is gorgeous.She had an injured eye, and nobody in the store was going to buy her, I asked the guy for a discount because of the missing eye because she’s hard to keep I gotta tap the tank so she goes to the top and gets the food after hours of looking for it.But he didn’t give me the discount I thought she was worth it and she’s amazing.Also wait I didn’t see neon tetras here, they’re like the best for small tanks.

Been doing research and desided to put some kind of algae eater in with my female betta, she has had tank mates before and has the "if you leave me alone I'll leave you alone" kind of personality. I only have the space for one algae eater. My female betta is the only thing in a 5 gallon tank she's about one inch, but is only about 4-5 months so I don't know if she'll get bigger. I desided to avoid snails and shrimp do to my inexperience as well as fear of them multiplying. I would appreciate any suggestions and will do more thorough research, but ideas are welcome if anyone has time. (And yes I am aware algae eaters need more than just the algae in the tank and I promise research will be done before anything is bought) thanks for any input!

I have never seen about half the fish on this list in fish stores in my area ( St. Louis). I think a lot of less common fish never get distributed much beyond the coastal import regions.

I have a male and 2 female bettas. I had 2 males but one passed away, i went to petco for a giant plakat male but instead brought home the smallest little female. She was solid white when i got her but now is almost completely black! My other girl was at the store for months and was brown with stress stripes, she's now a stunning electric blue with a red head and almost purple fins!

I had my betta in a 5 gallon and moved him to 10 gallon and I gotta say I think that should be the minimum. He became way more colorful and active once I gave him extra space, I keep him with some cory cats and Otto cats.

Great vid AGAIN. But dont for ( for the beginner's) that 5 endlers will become 1000 endlers if you blink. So plan on giving some of those away also.

To be honest I think a 5 gallon is too small for multiple different species. Probably best to do either a Betta or a small group of shoaling fish

What tanks or tank brands would you recommend?? Theres so many mixed reviews for so many tanks and usually you have to replace the filter the tank comes with. I DONT KNOW WHAT TANK TO GET!!!

Lizzy Zamora I always buy the cheap ones (Aqueon) when they are 1$/gallon and then reinforce the glass with aquarium seal before using. Great way to save a ton of money- just make sure reinforce their bigger ones (29+ gallon) before using because they can be weak

It's because endler's guppies was the title used for both guppies and endler's live-bearers. Eventually he reached the conclusion that they were two different species and we had endler's guppies and endler's live-bearers officially. But in the unofficial world guppies just went by guppies because it was a unique name. Meanwhile, the average person couldn't tell the difference between guppies and endler's live-bearers so the original (interchangeable) names of endler's live-bearers anf endler's guppies were used. "Guppies" being a different species became common knowledge, but due to linguistic quirks endler's guppies turned into guppies, people found out endler's live-bearers were different, but endler's guppies as a name for endler's live-bearers stuck.

I recently purchased a little female Betta with fin rot and red specks on her head. She’s healed now and ready to be moved into her cycled and planted 5 gal. I was originally planning to add a few females, but after researching found they could be aggressive and even kill each other. Have you had any problems with yours?

I had 2 female betta fish and I had to separate them. I set them in bowls side by side and they were perfectly fine but the second I tried to introduce them to the tank, they tried to fight, so I separated them.

I kind of want to get 3 to 4 female bettas in a 10 to 20 gallon tank. I'm a beginner with fish and think I should wait. Any suggestions ? I have one 3.5 gallon tank right now and will probably just get one betta now, but I was just wondering. I just dont wanna risk getting 2 or more aggressive female bettas.

how many of the fish on the list would also be good tank formates for a betta *in* a 5 gallon? I read someone claiming as long as you add the betta last so it hasn't established territory it's fine to add guppies, others say only in 10 gallons not 5

In my country betta fish are pretty hard to put together with others. Regularly we keep it solo to make the fish for perfect gloom.

Not 5gal. Related but 10 gal related, Would it be a good to put 3-5 guppies, 3molly and a betta in a 10 gal tank as a start. Im new to the fish world

I respectfully disagree about keeping WCM minnows in a 5g. They are very active fish and while yes they are super hardy and could probably be ok in a 5G, they need to have at the minimum a 15G tank to really strut their stuff. I used to breed them for a few years and honestly a 20-30G will get the most out of these fish as they are super active and will explore every inch of an aquarium, more so than Danios, Guppies and Tetras from what I've seen from experience.

We bought a 5 gal tank for a male beta. After the first night, he disappeared. We found him finally and realized he jumped out through the small opening between the lid and the pump. Very sad moment for us and we’d like to find another beta, but we’re worried it will happen again. We did everything by the book (we think) with water preparation and temperature. Is this common? He seemed happy in a fishbowl for about 2 weeks before transferring him to the aquarium.

I have 8 ember tetras in a 5 gallon and they're wonderful. I do water changes every week, I feed them a varied diet, and they're always swimming and being curious whenever I feed them. I know a lot of people think ember tetras should be in at least a 10 gallon, and bogger is bwtter, but in my experience ember tetras definitely can live in a five gallon.

can you keep a group of guppies in with a male betta? i have a 10gal tank with a few live plants and a mix pf smooth rocks and live plant soil for substrate. my filter is a powered one but its pretty gentle

My female betta is such a cutie. Within a couple days she was warmed up to me and gets so excited to see me and it took my other fish a few weeks at least to swim up to me

I purchase a red female beta who was in a cup at the store and 2neons 2tetras in my 5 gallon tank. initally the beta seemed a bit shy hardly moving around. Now after 2 weeks she is all over the tank and happy. Do fish sleep?

Sometimes they take a while to get used to their new tank and tank mates.

As far as I know, they don't, they just rest overnight, nocturnal ones don't rest during nighttime.
