One of my favorite sequences of gimmick changes because it's all worked through very storylines: Cody Rhodes. Seriously, there is in story reasoning behind of all of Cody's Gimmick changes, and they basically go back to his character's psychological mind state. Divas calling him the most handsome? Cody grows a massive ego and complex about his good looks and makes Smackdown 2010 to 2011 awesome. He breaks his nose? Cody freaks out and loses his mind because he dashing good looks (see what did there) are gone and basically becomes a comic book super villain. Randy Orton breaks the mask that Cody wears to protect his broken nose (and maybe the source of his insanity)? Cody returns to being normal...except still a little crazy. His already questionable mental state affected by a series of losses with his brother Goldust? He creates the Stardust persona to bring a new fervor to himself...and eventually Stardust takes over the majority of his being. (Stardust could have been gold, but alas, crap booking)
